Could Yakuza be released on Switch or Xbox One? The producer of the series answers us

Aside from an HD porting released on Wii U in Japan, the Yakuza license has so far remained faithful to the Sony consoles. Could this situation change in a more or less near future? That's what we asked the producer of the Yakuza games.

I think he's considering the 'stereotypical' audience of Nintendo users. But, how are you going to change those stereotypes and open the system up to more games of this variety if you don't put them out there?

Played it. Would love it on my switch and enjoy it more while laying in bed. Though im at that point where sitting all day in front of my montior/tv kills me.

TL;DR since they put 1&2 on the Wii U in an HD collection and even those that had a Wii U didn't bother buying it, they don't see much interest for the series there.

Not surprised, these companies have to come to terms that not all of their games will see success being multi-platform. It’s like MH did well on 3DS but it still has done far better numbers on PS devices. Worlds did awful on Xbox one. Just keep targeting your fan base when your this established.

That seems odd, the switch is huge in Japan and yakuza gets most of its sales there. I guess they are still burned because of the Wii u port they did.
Edit. Who is disagreeing? The switch sold more units in Japan than the Wii u did in 6.

the ps2 Yakuza games, were stuffed with loading screens every few seconds, and the Wii U was running the ps2 games, that tells you something.

The Kiwami games on the switch and the remasters of 3 and 4 would be cool but I have to agree with the guy

Love my switch and play it more than the ps4 but honestly I'd still get them on ps4. I just don't see a point in playing Yakuza handheld and id rather have better graphics and performance with the Yakuza games

All games should be available on all platforms. That is a win for gamers.

Device vendors, publishers, and developers should be able to develop games through a unified suite of tools that makes it simple to ship across platforms.

Gamers should be able to choose any platform and play the games they want to play the most.

Device vendors then compete on quality of their hardware and the entertainment experience their platform can provide as a whole.

Publishers and developers compete on the quality of experiences they provide in their games.

No more should I have to buy console X, Y, Z if I want to play games A, B, C. I don't know why gamers would be against this in any way, shape or for. The only gamers I can see not like this model are fanboys of the purist nature. Why would I not have the ability to play my games on my phone, tablet, PC, and console? Why would I not want to buy a game only once (ever) and play it on all my devices? Why would I want to support having to buy a bunch of consoles if I want to play Mario, Halo, and Uncharted? All the console wars have done is cost gamers a lot of extra money and exclude gamers from playing great games when they don't have a particular console. There is no reason for it except for corporations to control gamer choice.

Ya, as long as consumers don't ask for it, it won't happen. And as long as consumers keep rewarding all of the companies (Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo) for not taking that approach it won't happen.

I do not believe any console vendor gets a gold star here. They are all just as bad as each other at this point in time.

You just argued that the only thing that should exist are PCs, btw. The purpose of consoles is to remove the 'complexity' of PC and set an environment that is more equal in terms of various performance and interface factors.

You're essentially explaining why you don't understand how the console market came to be so prevalent.

No. I am stating that I should be able to buy whatever device suites my tastes and I should be able to play every game released on that device and that I should be able to play with any player on any other device.

I am tired of buying three consoles every generation to play all the games I want to play. I Love, Forza Motorsports, Forza Horizon, and Gears of War, I love Uncharted and the Last of Us, I love Mario games, Pokémon, and Zelda games. I HATE HAVING THREE CONSOLES JUST TO PLAY THOSE GAMES.

REmove exclusives, it's all about hardware.

Whether you realize it or not, you're arguing for a PC environment. Remove games as a reason to buy hardware, you're then left with a structure where people will be enticed via hardware solely. That's the PC market.

The exclusives is what prevents the console market from turning into the PC hardware market. The only thing.

No, not at all. I have many devices and I will not change that...

I like the simplicity of consoles. Yes, they are based on PC hardware, but they are simple to setup and use. That is not an issue for me, but is for the rest of my family to use the living room device.

I like a PC too. And I have a nice one. But, I only play RTS type games on it really. Well suited for that.

I like my phone when I am outside my house and want to kill time playing a game. PCs are awkward as a phone.

I like my tablet when I am travelling. Again, PC would be awkward.

So different devices bring different things to the table. How many different devices someone needs is about their living environment and their lifestyle.

Hmm and Xbox one x enhanced version or a switch portable version are both interesting prospects.

I’d think Xbox is a better fit tho. Getty Mature games don’t do too well on switch. And sega and Xbox have a history. With Xbox being the spiritual successor to Dreamcast and all. Microsoft wants more Japanese games on the system and sega could benefit from Microsoft’s marking muscle and financial push! Make it happen higher ups.

I’ve heard that nier is doing well on Xbox and as a result other Japanese publishers are paying attention.

Games that appeal to Japanese do well on switch period, on xbox one its completely pointless. These games are often digital only and quite late for english audiences. You do realize who the bulk of the audience is for this game series right? I doubt nier is selling really well on xbox (maybe better than expected), but even if it is many Japanese developers have left xbox and wont come back that easily. Just look at monster hunter world sales for an example of how far behind xbox is with japanese game sales.
