Could Sea Of Thieves Add Battle Royale Mode? Dev Weighs In

"We see the battle royale thing, but I think there will be opportunities to do that kind of thing differently," he said. "It's interesting where you can take PvP in the game, but we'd want to put a unique Sea of Thieves spin on it and do something completely surprising."

And New type of quests, customizations, evolution, boats, enemies, loot, raids, bosses, events, in others words, a full game

lxeasy129d ago

So pretty much the dlc's that they have announced at E3 and the megalodon dlc that has alrealdy released a couple weeks ago is what you just listed. lol

TheCommentator129d ago

LOL is right. The irony of corroios post is that they seem to care enough about SoT to be the first one to comment (and comment in most other SoT articles), yet they post another ignorant remark about stuff that, in this instance, was even addressed in the article (which they obviously weren't even interested enough in to read).

On topic, I appreciate that Rare doesn't want to follow others and wants to continue to evolve a unique experience for SoT players for a long, long time.

letsa_go129d ago

@TheCommentator LOL you appreciate that Rare doesn't follow others in an article about them potentially adding the trendiest, bandwagon game mode right now, battle royale. OK! 🙄

Johnyra129d ago (Edited 129d ago )

@letsa_go
Don't wanna take any sides cause i like the game and i can clearly see its flaws but rare's dev do says that they want to put their own unique spin on it

TheCommentator128d ago (Edited 128d ago )

@ letsa_go

Speaking of ignorant, here you are again. Did you try to read past the headline? Obviously not, because you didn't even have to follow the link to find this quote:

"It's interesting where you can take PvP in the game, but we'd want to put a unique Sea of Thieves spin on it and do something completely surprising."

Seriously, why even bother to post if you don't care enough about the topic to educate yourself?

Exactly...the game needs to focus on PVE more than PVP at this point. I like the game but not in the state it’s in. The combat imo needs a complete overhaul there needs to be a progression system, skills, abilities etc.

Concertoine129d ago

See, I like the simplicity of the game. I think if they took these skills and abilities and relegated them to the PVE only it would be a good addition, but I also like the level playing field of the game in terms of PVP.

I want more customization of the ship (lanterns, cannons, bells, the bow, the captains quarters, etc.) and that would incentivize me to jump back in.

The next DLC is for AI ship battles so maybe they'll have some of what you're looking for.

aconnellan129d ago

What you’re describing is a different game.

That’s like saying “Halo 1 was good, the story was good and the shooting was great, but it needed third person, inventory management, turn based combat, a party system...”

Sea of Thieves was very specifically designed to not include gear/stat-based progression or abilities. If you don’t like that then that’s totally okay. But that’s the game they made and the one they wanted to make.

aconnellan129d ago

Yeah, like the other guy said, everything you listed has been getting added to the game consistently since the Hungering Deep update.

They’ve also started adding in fortnightly timed events/quests with themed loot/rewards, and the next major update comes out at the end of the month

BLKxSEPTEMBER129d ago

So they’ve added new skills, abilities, over hauled the combat and a progression system? Nice I didn’t realize that.

aconnellan128d ago

@blk

I replied to your other comment with my own, and all I’m going to say is what you’re describing is a completely different game.

More to my comment, the first guy at the top that I replied to didn’t have ‘skills, abilities, combat overhaul, progression’ system in his list, so your comment doesn’t really apply to this discussion

Snakeking33128d ago

How much would the dlc be to get that game you talking about

JackBNimble128d ago

I thought updates were free

otakuapologist129d ago

who said? i think the name of the developer should be mentioned.

lxeasy129d ago (Edited 129d ago )

"we spoke with Sea of Thieves’ design director, Mike Chapman, and Rare’s studio head, Craig Duncan"
All it took was a little reading. They offer the link to the full interview as well. lol

What are you laughing at? Lol

Prince_TFK128d ago

Maybe he is happy that SoT is steadily improving and becoming a good game.

gangsta_red129d ago

The combat in this game would not lend well to a battle royal mode. But maybe if they could do something with pirate ship battles in some type of arena setting, that might be interesting.

lxeasy129d ago

@gangsta I think if they mix both The ship battles and the combat it lend well to a battle Royal mode.

gangsta_red129d ago

A mix of both might be cool but in all honesty a BR mode is the last thing Rare should try and do for SoT.
