Dave Halverson, Editor-In-Chief of PLAY Magazine, recently wrote an editorial on PlayMagazine.com about the reviews given to the Sega game Golden Axe: Beast Rider which PLAY Magazine rated 9/10.
"Regarding many of the "reviews" on Sega's Golden Axe: Beast Rider: Be wary. The majority of these people (can't call them critics) either didn't complete a fraction of the game, don't understand game design, or just plain suck at games. The words "Hack 'n' Slash" are an instant red flag. Beast Rider is anything but. Mindlessly flailing in frustration because you can't get the game's simple controls/timing down is no way to play the game. Most gamers out there who would buy Beast Rider are far better players than the people rushing through a level or two to write these sad reviews; a sad but ever pervasive sign of the times."
Okay, Sega. the devs of Streets of Rage 4 together and let's make a new Golden Axe happen.
Not every game made the transition to 3D as smoothly as Mario or Zelda. Here are 15 games that made the worst transition from 2D to 3D.
Why do you have a screen from Street Fighter X Tekken for Street Fighter EX?
Joe from GamersFTW writes about 5 of the worst games that have happened as a result of rebooting a video game franchise
Can someone put a pillow over Sonic's face and hold it down until he stops struggling? It'll be an act of kindness.
So many disappointments. It's so sad when a well loved franchise looks like it's dying in front of your eyes. (I miss you Sonic, I hope you come back some day)
I dunno, I think these games are great in a certain way. They're a fantastic counter argument against reboots in general and that at least is something

Here is the review from Play Magazine which gave the game a 9/10:

I'm currently playing the game myself on PS3 and I have to say that I'm loving it so far. I would definitely recommend it. It does kind of start out slow but I agree with Halverson that its more of a tutorial in the beginning to get the player used to the game mechanics before encountering the later levels. So if you check the game out then give it some time before ditching it. I honestly believe thats exactly what some sites, like IGN and Eurogamer, did before reviewing the game. If they had played through the game from start to finish there is no way this game could receive anything under a 6 little alone a 3.2 like IGN gave it.
Yet another reason why critic's fail.
Everyone is different.
slightly off topic.
Lord of the rings. Metacritic.
One reviewer said this.
An extraordinary work, grandly conceived, brilliantly executed and wildly entertaining. It's a hobbit's dream, a wizard's delight. And, of course, it's only the beginning!
Another said this.
Far from the movie of the year, the first installment of the long-awaited Lord of the Rings trilogy is an all-around disappointment.
Just shows not everyone likes the same thing.
It's kinda the way people go on about star wars.
Most of those films bore me to tears.
No not because i don't like space films etc,(i like startrek)I just don't feel connected to the movie.
But again that's my opinion.
