Switch vs Wii – VGChartz Gap Charts – May 2018 Update

May 2018 is the 15th month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for. During the latest month the Wii has grown its lead over the Switch. The Wii outsold the Switch by 800,622 units in the last month and by 3.20 million units in the last 12 months. The Wii is currently ahead of the Switch by 3.65 million units.

The Wii launched in November 2006, while the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. The Switch has sold 17.33 million units, while the Wii sold 20.98 million units during the same timeframe.

Wii was a beast up until around late 2010. It had insane YoY growth, but then fell like a rock during its twilight years, after the motion control fad completely died. Even knowing that, I seriously doubt that Switch will hit Wii numbers. It’ll beat 3DS for sure, but 85 million for it seems to be the sweet spot. Basically PS360 numbers

Nintendo did not ramp up build rate until year 2 on wii. No way switch comes close in long run

If Switch gets a $50 price cut this fall it'll easily hit it's 20 million for 2018.
