Microsoft and Razer might be working on an Xbox keyboard and mouse partnership

A presentation details some rules and guidance for developers on their implementation of mouse and keyboard support for Xbox. Gamepad support is still a requirement for all titles, and the Xbox can only support one mouse and keyboard per console, unlike gamepads, of which it can support several.

Microsoft also offers some guidance on the impact mouse and keyboard support might have for competitive multiplayer titles. It notes that it's entirely up to developers on how they want to utilize mouse and keyboard support, emphasizing that the presence of mouse and keyboard can be detected, meaning a developer could potentially lock players to specific playlists based on their inputs to preserve balance

I'm interested to see where this goes. I think as long as controller people have aim assist, and the mouse sensitivity settings are restricted so they aren't capable of doing things someone on a controller can't (like flipping 180 degrees in a fraction of a second) it shouldn't be much of an issue on letting them play together.

DarkVoyager2548d ago (Edited 2548d ago )

I think they should just separate KB&M and controller players. Problem solved.

Starcraft II on console? Yes please.

With keyboard/ mouse support there is no reason AoE and Gears Tactics can't get a port to Xbox

3-4-52548d ago

What if it's to ship with as an option for next gen.

So day one, there is an alternative control device via the keyboard + Mouse as a gaming option day 1 on the next Xbox.

Like how Switch came with joy-cons but offered Pro Controller day one.

I'd like it as an option as it would mean more PC inspired IPs make there way to the next Xbox.

lokirevamped2548d ago

I say just create 3 server rooms.
1) Xbox controller.
2) Mouse and Keyboard.
3) All of the above.

chiefJohn1172548d ago

That would divide game population too much. Keep them all together no one is sweating keyboard warriors. If you feel they have an advantage then go get yourself one. Elite controller users have an advantage but I don't see ppl asking to put them in a separate server

lokirevamped2548d ago

chiefJohn117, I agree with you 100% but some people like to hear options or at least feel like they have one....it makes them feel better. I play all FPS I own on hardcore which means if they see me first my man is going down anyway. I could care less if the person can spin around faster than I can. It just means I need to slow down more and adapt to their playing style if I do not want to get my player shot. I do like what you said .....if you feel they have an advantage get one.

TheRacingX2547d ago

Chiefjohn, sorry but KB/M players have a far bigger advantage than those people that have elite controllers, Ive played FPS using KB/M and a controller and KB/M is faster for accuracy and tracking than a controller, I can say the same logic, if you want to play FPS with KB/M play it on a PC, why should I have to buy an extra accessory to take away someone elses advantage. People want KB/M on console shooters so they can have the advantage, bad enough already with the cheat hacks going through games....blackops 1&2 is pretty much unplayable with all the hacks infecting multiplayer

I've heard this million times with different console.
It's not that hard to have mouse and keyboard to support xbox or PS. This is all garbage talk

"A presentation details some rules and guidance for developers on their implementation of mouse and keyboard support for Xbox. "

So is this why Microsoft wants cross-play?
So that Xbox users can play against PS4 users using keyboards and mouse vs controllers?!

Lon3wolf2548d ago

I would lay off the acid tbh.

Yeah, MS executives have the same mentality of a 30 yr old living with his mom... I don’t think the thought of their customer base having a competitive edge over their rival customer base keeps them up at night.

Doge2548d ago

Crossplay doesn't work outside of playing with friends, genius.

TheCommentator2548d ago

O_o

Yes, this is how MS plans to beat Sony... by kicking MP ass in crossplay titles through KB/M support...

saoco2548d ago

What if I told you ps4 been having kb&m support?

saoco2547d ago

There are very few that do support it. I personally dont care for fortnite, butthat game does support it and it works. The option is there it's just not forced on developers which is cool with me.

Prince_TFK2547d ago

What an ignorant way to look at thing.

Can't you just use a regular mouse and keyboard? Isn't that an option? People who play most games at 30fps aren't really buying "high end" keyboards and mice, lol.

The Evil Within Deserved More: A Great Horror Series Left Behind

The Outerhaven writes: While I hold Bethesda's The Evil Within series as some of the best Survival Horror games available, it's clear that Bethesda has no intention of revisiting the series. While Capcom is still working on its Resident Evil series, I look back at the now-dead survival horror series from Bethesda, wondering why the series was left wide open, and yet still not revisited.

An OK horror series left behind. It had some great ideas, but it never knew how to play to its strengths. Instead, it came out like just another RE4 clone.

I would love for a third entry to come out, but it needs to learn to lean in on the psychological aspect and move away from the generic "pew pew" ideology at the center of the gameplay loop. It doesn't need to abandon it; it just needs to put it into better context, is all.

Also, try a first-person perspective instead. Too many 3rd-person games with nothing to offer but an avatar taking precious screen space. At least make it an actual option and not that janky-ass mess the second game pretended to have.

PS5/Pro/Switch 2 version of RDR2 seems most likely. I’d love a RDR3 but that seems years away

Cacabunga1h ago

Id be happy for just a 60fps patch

OmegaSoldati30m ago(Edited 27m ago)

Agreed, but at the same time RD2 came out in 2018. Could it be a remake of Red Dead 1?

Spoiler:

Marston died in the end of Red Dead and Red Dead 2 is set before that. Im curious now. What news could it be?

Profchaos2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

Their contracts are iron clas if they leak anything legit they are threatened with immense legal action.

My hopes for what this is are minimal its probably a meet and greet with the cast

I dont see why they would be involved in a upgraded version of rdr2 when the dialogue hasn't changed
