Isn't this a SP game though... how would GaaS work in a SP game aside from lootboxes and MT's?

-Foxtrot2551d ago

It might have multiplayer...I completely forget about this to be honest.

https://www.pcgamesn.com/qu...

Now it's more worrying.

darthv722551d ago

their next game is going to be called Jumpin' Jack Flash.

you know, cause it's a gas gas GaaS

okay that was lame.

gangsta_red2551d ago

GaaS isn't limited to just MP.

It could work in a SP game by supporting episodic gameplay, time trials or any other SP type feature that keeps a user coming back to play some more.

darthv722551d ago

episodic, you mean like the telltale games? i guess i had not thought about that part.

Jinger2551d ago

I think people get GaaS confused with it only being a digital or MP thing. GaaS can mean many different things for all types of games. It's essentially a model for any game to try and get consumers to come back to their game by periodically adding new content. Thus keeping users in their universe longer.

EDKICK2551d ago (Edited 2551d ago )

@gansta_red
You may be right, I don't necessarily get traditional GAAS from reading any of his quotes.

It almost sounds like it has roguelike elements, with how they explain "the house" they said it "keeps shifting its shape" and "seems to infinitely expanding". Maybe a survival mode or something like that? Similar to Prey's Mooncrash DLC or Desolation of Mordor from Shadow of War.

RainbowBrite2551d ago

"any other SP type feature that keeps a user coming back to play some more"
Yeah, or like features that make users to completely avoid the game

ziggurcat2551d ago

constant content packs, too.

ziggurcat2551d ago

They did it in AC: Origins, so it's possible to sneak it into other SP games.

lelo2play2551d ago

"games-as-a-service"

I don't like the sound of that...

darthv722551d ago

it sounds scarier than it is. Like i said below, we could basically look at any game series where there are multiple releases (sequels) as a form of GaaS because their intention is to provide an ongoing story for the player to return to at some point.

The trend now is to do that all in the same release. Like back to the future and how you can get the episodes separately or you can get the whole thing in one swoop.

RainbowBrite2551d ago

all this acronyms, GaaS and me like: GTFO

losing a bit of interest in this , really hoping for an Alan wake2

monkey6022551d ago

I've wanted an Alan Wake 2 for so long. I still hope some day they come arou d to it but maybe they just don't have any ideas where to take the plot.

I lost interest myself in Control the moment I saw it. It looked like Quantum Break and when I read about it being part of that universe I gave up entirely

gamer78042551d ago

his wife would be a good start. I finished quantum break it was good, but this looks like more of the same, but stuck in one big puzzle house which isn't too interesting.

RainbowBrite2551d ago (Edited 2551d ago )

Now I was thinking that it was Microsoft the ones that f**ed up Quantum Break, with the whole watch soap opera episodes TV thing. But with this news? I'm looking at you now Remedy.
Maybe you were the ones that had that fantastic "business" idea for Quantum Break.

UltraNova2551d ago

No, the tv stuff probably wasn't QB's fault or their decision entirely since MS was pushing Xbox related TV content hard back then. Remember Halo TV series? Probably not(me neither btw).

UCForce2551d ago

But it will never be a perfect future.

Jinger2551d ago

There is never a perfect future.

UCForce2551d ago

But when you put your statement like that, it’s sound like you think Gaas is perfect future for you. Even like I said, less risk, less new ip, less Single Player focus and more lazy than ever. Even worse is that the game will be unfinished and lack of content at launch.

Jinger2550d ago

When did I ever say it's the perfect future for me? I just observe the trend, I also don't get bent out of shape about it. I play the games I'm interested in and don't get wrapped up in the politics of it all.

jznrpg2551d ago

Oh man , I was really excited for this game way to kill it Remedy

phoenixwing2551d ago

there goes my hype for the game.

eh?
They better not mess much with the Max Payne Remake(s)

Yui_Suzumiya207d ago

Yeah but this was announced before the Max Payne Remake after all

LucasRuinedChildhood207d ago (Edited 207d ago )

What does "unlocking some previously released content" actually mean though? I would imagine it should be "previously unreleased content". Bit odd.

DaReapa206d ago

Right. Especially since the Ultimate Edition supposedly contained everything.

raWfodog207d ago

I only played about an hour of Control when I added it to my library back when it was one of the PS+ ‘free’ games. I’ll start it over again after the early 2025 update is dropped. I keep hearing that it’s a good game.

jznrpg207d ago

You can make that statement for any game. It’s called gameplay loop. Not everyone is going to enjoy the same loops but all games are repetitive by nature

RedDevils206d ago

Agree it was very boring game. Could not get into it. Remember me the game I played on PS3 is still better than this.

Chocoburger207d ago

These days "RPG" translates to constantly grinding for experience points, wasting time upgrading gear, and repeatedly collecting resources off the ground.

Please don't be an Ubishit style filler game.

Yui_Suzumiya207d ago

Hopefully it'll be more like Mass Effect

Amplitude207d ago (Edited 207d ago )

Remedy doesn't really make mistakes. It'll be good, I'm sure.

Inverno207d ago

So in other words it's an action game needlessly fluffed out with RPG mechanics and a pointless leveling system. I really enjoy RPGs when they're actually RPGs but modern action games really tire me out when they shoehorn in mechanics they don't need. All this does is make a 20 hour game into a 40 hour game because missions become locked behind level requirements, and enemies become damage sponges. It's not fun, it's tedious.

Remedy is leaving Epic in the dark place to self-publish Control 2

Remedy will self-publish Control 2 as part of a new "strategic cooperation agreement" with Annapurna. A press release accompanying the announcement says Annapurna will provide half of Control 2's development budget, and in return gains the rights to adapt Control and Alan Wake for film and television.

TheNamelessOne289d ago

Devs backing EPIC didn't last long. I just can't understand why ... /s

porkChop289d ago (Edited 289d ago )

This isn't about the store. Epic published the game on all platforms. They want to self publish because they couldn't recoup Alan Wake 2's budget.

Killer2020UK289d ago

...because Epic chose to restrict its PC release to the Epic store and completely restrict it's physical release until later this year.

Vits289d ago

It’s connected, though. They couldn’t recoup the costs because Epic restricted the places and formats where the game could be released, literally removing the biggest PC distribution channels from the equation. And they also sold the game cheaper than a traditional full release, solely to support their statements at the launch of the Epic Games Store that PC games would be cheaper if it weren’t for Steam.

RaidenBlack289d ago

Dang, nice ... Alan Wake II is an amazing game
Can't wait for Control 2 and Max Payne Remakes

DustMan289d ago

Not sure why your getting down voted because you found Alan Wake 2 amazing. I'm in the same boat as you. Can't wait for Control 2 & the Max Payne remakes. Max Payne 1 & 2 were some of my favorite pc games from my early teens lol.

RaidenBlack288d ago

Coz N4G logic.
You cant praise a game if its got no physical release, not releasing on PS etc

isarai289d ago

Maybe this time we'll actually get a day 1 physical release

JEECE289d ago

And hopefully Steam/GOG options on PC.

PS5 Non-Exclusives That Feature Fantastic Haptic Feedback

Sifu, Control, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and others, despite being third-party games, offer best-in-class haptic feedback on the PS5.

CrimsonWing69335d ago

I think the GTA V PS5 upgrade has some impressive haptic feedback and other utilization of the dual sense features.

Like, rain hitting you has a distinct feel, parts of the road do as well, fun fire feels crunchy and different depending on the gun (SMG vs Shotgun, for ex.), but I always get a kick out of the phone conversations coming out of the controller and if you have the lights off in the room and the fuzz is chasing you the controller does a good job of doing the red and blue lights that kind of light up the room and just add to the fun.

LucasRuinedChildhood335d ago

Borderlands 3 makes very good use of the triggers. Each gun feels unique.

chicken_in_the_corn334d ago
