Video game and electronics retailer GameStop Corp is holding talks with private equity firms about a potential transaction after receiving buyout interest, people familiar with the matter said on Monday.
There aren't too many used games stores that are as big as GameStop. I feel their problem is the perception that they care more about money than the customer.
Well when I trade in a game that released last week for 60, you only give me 22 for it and then you sell it for 54.... yeah you only really care about the money.
Something tells me you don't know as much as you think you know about running a business. If 22 ain't enough for you sell it online yourself. Play and trade tried the idea of offering more for used games, their prices were on average 5-10 dollars more(had to make it up somewhere) for games........and that's why they only lasted a couple years.
They certainly do not care about their staff and in-store management.
Former ASM 2005-2008. Loved the customers and actually talking with them about games though. Like real chat, with no hidden agenda to manipulate them into an added purchase. I still keep in contact with some of my favorites 10 years later.
I started with EB Games before they got bought out. The first thing they did was find frivolous reasons to fire EB management staff because they made more money than Gamestop paid management. A large percentage fell like dominoes, one after the other. At least in my district. I was a 3rd key holder with EB at the time. When the Assistant Manager got canned, that's when I got promoted. I made crap pay, but I loved the job... at first. The more it migrated to Gamestop from EB, the more it felt like Game Nazi Inc.
I eventually left in 2008 after I had enough and started a real career. Not many people lasted long with them in my district. It was a revolving door. Those who did stay a while went on to better jobs when they got the opportunity.
It was inevitable. I might need to check out the bargain bins for some used titles before they get re purposed or shuttered.
Who would be willing to buy them though?
Gamestop is like a man who still walks but has not realized he is dead.

Firms: We’ll give you three hundred dollars cash, or one thousand in store credit.
