Is Cyberpunk 2077 The Best Game In E3 Or Is It Overhyped?

Cyberpunk 2077 is a role-playing video game which is upcoming and was developed by CD Projekt Red. The team came to E3 this year with a demo for the next game which lasts for 50 minutes. Cyberpunk comprises both lowlife and high technologies, which features advance scientifically and technologically achievements. The demo was a showcase of the game’s feature set as it showed the developer’s capabilities as a studio.

All I'm thinking is if it's so good then why not show it off, even a 20 second gameplay clip showing the first person set up.

If it's so good to show to journalists then I'm sure fans would enjoy it just as much

lelo2play2138d ago

I honestly don't understand why some companies go about showing their "precious" games in secrecy and closed doors, instead of showing gameplay so everybody can see. What do they have to hide?

It almost feels like a bribery of some sort. We show you select few our "precious", now go praise it for all it's worth.
If you don't praise it, next time you're not invited.

-Foxtrot2138d ago

Yeah I just don't see the logic in it...I think it makes it even worse when they finally do show off gameplay because journalists being like they are really overblow previews to the point where despite the game actually looking amazing they've hyped it up to another level where you can't seem to feel disappointed COMPARED to the generated hype.

I agree on the bribery part, it's hard to talk about this considering it's Cyberpunk 2077 because I know people will take this as me/us trying to downplay the game or CD Projekt Red but it's something that applies to ALL games which are done like this.

"Praise it and hype it up to the high heavens for us or you never know we might just FORGET to include you in our little behind closed doors party with our next game"

It's the same when developers send out Press Kits and special editions which are nothing like the collector's editions we get at retail. Some games are actually really good in the end which deserve the high scores while others seem like the press kits and the like did have some influence. Just a show a few off...once again games worthy of the scores and those which are questionable.

Type video game press kits into Ebay and you'll see the insane prices they sell them for.

I_am_Batman2138d ago

The only reason I can think of is that the demo that was shown to the press is still too rough around the edges to show it to the public. The average joe doesn't understand that for the most part of a game's development it is chaotic, fragmented and messy.

Rude-ro2137d ago

They are avoiding or doing but not limited to...
Downgrade outrage once released.
Bugs or glitches in the current build since it is still a ways off.
Building hype too early with mechanics that may not hit the final product.
Building hype only using the media as their mouth piece. You know, that false sense of the game will be amazing to help pre-sales.
All sorts of reasons...
But no behind closed door game wins anything.. especially if there is no release date in sight.

sampsonon2137d ago (Edited 2137d ago )

@I_am_Batman: excuses!
most, if not all, demos devs show at these conferences are made specifically for the show which they prepare months before so they can give a clean representation of the game...... if only for a few moments.

this is either the devs being lazy or they have been listening to all the praise they received because of the witcher.

the game has been in development before the last of us 2 and look what Naughty Dog showed.

neutralgamer19922137d ago

Lelo

I know why because these YouTube journalists will hype up the reveal so much and constantly talk about it

Watch it win best game at E3 awards without us the fans even getting to see the demo. Simply showing gameplay wouldn't have created this type of hype so now all fans are desperate to see what's up

These journalists have spoken so highly that the reveal will be a let down for many

I just expected more from CD project red a gamer friendly company. We have been waiting since 2013

If they show it too early then don't show anything else for a year, people complain and start making up conspiracies that the game is in a terrible state. If you change anything between an early trailer and release date, people complain about content being stripped from the game, graphics downgrade, etc. There is a vocal percentage of the gaming community that loves to complain. Also making a demo or trailer polished enough to be scrutinized by the public - that takes some time that can be better used to keep working on the game. There are a lot of reasons on why not to show the game too early to the public.

-Foxtrot2137d ago

They've teased this and showed another CGI trailer like 5 years ago, I think we are passed people coming up with conspiracy theories that the game is in terrible shape and everything else.

Lightning Mr Bubbles2137d ago

Way overhyped just because it's from the same maker as Witcher 3. I mean people were losing their shit over this game even before the E3 trailer, when all they had seen was a bullet. Even now we still haven't seen any gameplay or know anything about the story.

Thunder_G0d_Bane2137d ago

The way I see it. No gameplay shown at e3 it shouldn’t even be in the running for best game at e3.

Cd project I respect so much but was very disappointed about what they did at e3 with this reveal.

You show the media but not your fans. When the media turn their back on you it’s the fans you’ll need in the end.

-Foxtrot2137d ago

Yeah it's silly, on the IGN E3 Awards they gave best in show to Cyberpunk 2077 for that very reason alone...they also awarded "Best Xbox Game" and "Best PC Game" to Cyberpunk aswell despite their being plenty of other games for those actual platforms.

I don't think they need to sweeten journalists up at the end of the day

UltraNova2137d ago

Some devs will get away with anything...we waited for so many years and all we got was a pre rendered trailer.

Scatpants2137d ago

They did a reveal just like GTA 5 and just like Red Dead Redemtion. It seems to be par for the course with these big open world style games to release a cinematic trailer before the gameplay trailer.

alexgibson2137d ago (Edited 2137d ago )

I love how you think the media aren't video game fans, lol. I saw the demo, it's incredible. They teased it in this way to build hype and keep people in suspense. Chill out. Go work in the media if you want special treatment... that's the one perk we get... literally the one perk. The rest of the time we're slated and flamed by angry readers.

PS. I got a Cyberpunk figure and I'm not selling it - I'm treasuring it forever just like you would :).

Tokasmke2137d ago

They aren’t showing it because it probably won’t be final gameplay which means graphics downgrade. They don’t want to get our hopes up

-Foxtrot2137d ago (Edited 2137d ago )

The thing is if that's what the studio really thinks why not downgrade it on purpose because at the end of the day we have nothing at the minute to compare it to. At least when it comes out it'll be better looking regardless and instead of a shit load of downgrade articles it'll be nothing but good PR "graphics improved since first reveal" articles. All they have to say on the video is "Alpha Footage".

Lon3wolf2137d ago

"They aren’t showing it because it probably won’t be final gameplay which means graphics downgrade."

Except they did show it (behind closed doors but some of it is available on Youtube should you actually want to see it) and said what hardware it was running on:

As reported by The Dark Side of Gaming, CD Project Red Community Manager “Alicja” stated on the official Cyberpunk 2077 Discog server that the demo ran on a PC with an Intel i7-8700K 3.70Ghz CPU and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti video card.

Kokyu2137d ago

Cause its a next gen game. The game was running in an I7 with Gtx 1080ti with 16gigs. They want hype but not people to expect it to look like it does on current gen systems.

Tokasmke2137d ago

CD Projekt confirmed its being developed for Xb1X, PS4 and PC and they have no idea when next gen is coming out. However the game engine will be ready for next gen.

Kokyu2137d ago

@tokasmke

And? So what lots of games are being developed for current gen systems at worst this will be cross but if you think this is going to be current gen only your going to be disappointed.

Scatpants2137d ago

It's a hype cycle thing. Now they can get all this E3 press and then get even more press down the road when they do their gameplay reveal.

VTKC2137d ago

Holy crap its been that long ago?! 5 years ago we saw a cgi trailer. Now another. What then? Another 5 years for gameplay footage? And then a few years for a playable demo?

isarai2138d ago

seeing as how all i seen was a CGI trailer, i couldn't tell you.

Nacho_Z2137d ago

That was all from the in game engine so credit to them for looking as good as CGI to you at least.

fdkenzo2137d ago (Edited 2137d ago )

Cdpr confirmed that was CGI.
Search on google.

Nacho_Z2137d ago

@fdkenzo that's odd because it says "game engine footage" at the start of the trailer.

smolinsk2137d ago (Edited 2137d ago )

Yes very overhyped, we have not even seen any gameplay, and the trailer was ok, not more then that. Personally i was hoping for a more bladerunner look and noir look, more atmosphere. But it looked cartoonis like

Gatsu2137d ago

"But it looked cartoonis like"
Could any of it be because the trailer and demo is running in day time, instead of a rainy night with more darkness??

smolinsk2137d ago

Maybe, i would hope so, very much hope so..

The Best Gzme Reveal In A Long Time Period and It's By CD Project Red : Hello!!!!!!!

jbull2137d ago

If its as good as gaming journalists have stated and First person only isn't a problem then show us some actual gameplay! How can we say it justifies the hype when it was shown behind closed doors to a select few and not the public.

Well they are using unreal engine now thanks to there work culture and horrific job on making cyberpunk so for the future no impact.

But it will be interesting to see what mods will be made

just_looken4d ago

7 disagrees shows how many look at one dlc that had a rip off fight from ghost in the shell and goes wow what a goat team i love cdpr while ignoring that they only made 2 games that were good witcher 2/3 in 20yrs.

But its a new world we want a criminal that support's legal murder as president/support shoplifting love toxic work environments and have a mass casualty event every other day.

GhostMirror4d ago

I’ll admit I didn’t play it at launch, but Cyberpunk 2077 is a really good game now.

And who the hell knows what you’re even going on about in your second paragraph here.

EazyC4d ago

Wait a min...I swear to god CP2077's source code got leaked before. CDPR needs to stop using "password123" for all their accounts 😅

just_looken4d ago

Na its hundreds ex employees no doubt just getting there revenge.

Profchaos4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

This is the same leak the threat actors have been trying to sell the source code after cd project didn't pay the ransom.

They didn't manage to sell the source code to any company largely because it would be unethical for say EA to buy it so the threat actors failed to find a buyer.

After they failed to make any money they went through with their threat of simply giving it away.

They will need to add everything they promised in the first one and not over promise on the second one.

just_looken4d ago

They also need to drop esg then hire employees that have knowledge not hire them because they have a set of tits.

Official video they hired people to fill the esg clipboard

Hofstaderman4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

As somebody who has been playing the tabletop games since the 90s and was let down on launch by my PS4 version, you can bet I'm not going the preorder any sequel.

3rd person option, and everything else that was originally promised. Next don't force agenda driven naratives. Finally, release a finished product without need for day one patches.
