Sony shows us how to almost sabotage an almost guaranteed win.
While I agree for the most part, I feel like Microsoft more better variety. Racing - Forza Horizon 4 3rd person shooter - Gears 5 Action - Crackdown 3 FPS - Halo Infinite Platformer - Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Hard to be impressed by this “variety” showing the same trio as usual Sony still should have showed Dreams and Wild. The latter I’m starting to believe it’s been canceled
They did show Dreams. Used scenes from the game for in between segments anyway. Really, where MS came off as talking to - at - everyone who was online as apposed to the physical audience, Sony held parties for several small groups that were briefly interrupted by trailers and had one main presentation for the people who just wanted to see trailers. We the online audience got the latter plus a lame halftime-like opening segment. @DarkVoyager: That list only really interests Xbox fans. people who already own an Xbox.
"Sony still should have showed Dreams" All the little musical scenes between game trailers or gameplay were from Dream...
Have to remember that all 3rd party games will look best on Xbox, so showing nier, cyberpunk, and anything else 3rd party is atleast a partial win even if not exclusive.
@gamer It will look best on pc soooo....
@consolegamer Will they look best on everyone’s PC? Not mine, or most of the pc community (if steams metrics are to be believed).
@MakoD - can't say I agree with all your points, but thanks for making me laugh this morning. Good observations...
The only new game Sony showed that wasn't at last years was tlou2! Which is a sequel, so howd they win?
If you love third person story driven action. You gotta love Sony
PETE1985 Will they look best on everyone's Xbox? You point out that not everyone's PC can play games or play at 1440p or 4K. But simply say they will look best on Xbox. So if I got and buy a Xbox One S games will look and play better than my PS4 Pro or even base PS4? Yer I thought not. You also bring up the steam metrics. Which is fair enough. But how many xbox fans own an XB1x? Not all own an Xbox One X? If I was to make a wild guess. I would say 95% of Xbox One consoles sold are Xbox One's and Xbox One S with the other 5% being XB1x.
"AssCreed".....LMAO. ..love it. On a serious note. I think people forget, for Sony people complained about them showing games that will not be played within a year or so; so what did they do? They listened and started showing games that will be played in the next few months to the public. So they started showing future games at other events. Then they also created another showcase that they own, PSX. Fans created this so they shouldn't complain about what is shown at E3. For MS, to me, E3 is there bread and butter where they have to prove themselves to the gaming population each year. To me they have nothing to lose so they always go all out. Also by having there showcase, usually before Sony's, They show games that we know Sony won't show at their presser. Either way, I thought this was a good E3. We as gamer got what we wanted because this is what we asked for. Yes, me may have wanted to see new games but...we will just have to wait for another event.
@fathertime "The only new game Sony showed that wasn't at last years was tlou2!" You might want rewatch last year's E3. From what I recall Ghost wasn't, nioh 2 wasn't, from's psvr game wasn't in fact I don't think any of the 3 or 4 vr games they showed weren't, death stranding wasn't.
All about them games.. That conference didn't disappoint. No useless talk, just fact!!
MakoD I'm not sure how much of that was supposed to be serious, but I agree with a surprising amount of the points you made. Especially #7 about Death Stranding. I mean, I don't like Kojima so I never thought this game had any chance of appealing to me, but seriously, WTF? #9 as well... But you forgot about the Banjo at the beginning as well. What was up with that?
I liked TLOU2 & Spiderman but honestly their show as a whole was really underwhelming, actually got boring for long periods of talking. Microsofts show was much better, filled with games even if most were 3rd party there were lots of premeires & good announcements especially Halo Infinity with new engine looked spectacular but they lacked any NEW blockbuster 1st party games, 1st party aquisitions was a step in the right direction but those fruits are years from being ripe. Microsoft B Sony C-

I was about to answer the same. These newborn xbox 1x elitist seem to forget that out of the only 30 million xbox 1's sold, 1x's are only a tiny fraction of the total number, given the slow pace x1 is selling overall, there are probably not much more than 500.000 units of 1x in the wild.
Variety is about game genres and game types not new IPs. That said, I was happy with Sony's variety as well, although I would give the edge slightly to XB. Simply because there seemed to be a lot of genres. And good games in all the genres.
Darkvoyager, the difference being MS likely showed most of their hand at E3, whereas Sony has been known to only show some and save some for the other gaming shows. This is why, for instance, we only saw Dreams appear in the form of segues between games, Sony didn't want to devote time to it this time, saving it for a later reveal. E3's presser is starting to become a back burner thing for Sony, I'm noticing they do many of their big reveals either at events they throw themselves, or at other shows like TGS, Gamescom, etc.
What about the game CONTROL by Remedy and 505 most over looked game yet at E3.
Let's be honest, Dreams should have a release date by now if not releasing this year. What that team has is a combination of game and complete game engine, including audio creation tool. How it doesn't have a release date by now is beyond my comprehension.
“Sony’s Conference Had The Best Games, But Was Let Down By Almost Everything Else” Yep. The games they focused on largely impressed. I liked death stranding a lot. TLoU pt2 looked the best though and already looks like game of the gen. But if your reading this Shawn Layden. You need to present e3 with more polish. Things have slipped the last two pressers. “Have to remember that all 3rd party games will look best on Xbox, so showing nier, cyberpunk, and anything else 3rd party is atleast a partial win even if not exclusive.” @gamer7804 That’s only for the few who own an x1x. For most gamers the PlayStation is the better place to buy multiplats. And in any case the difference is never enough to overcome exclusive offerings. Fans of nier or hellblade were much better served on Sony as they played those games first.
You say that, but im sure you wouldnt mind to get a new God of War next year. A new Horizon next year. A new Uncharted next year. Etc etc. If the games are good and the games sell. And people enjoy and want them.. Why would you NOT sell and make them? Thats like McDs taking away the BigMac or BK removing the Whopper...
@gamer78 That may be, but Sony's games looked better than any of the 3rd party games that were shown. So if appearances are what matter, then Sony still has them beat. That being said, Sony I think had mostly the best games, but MS did have better pacing for their conference.
Did you even watch? Dreams was all over it. Not in a respectful way I feel but it was all up in there.
gamer "Have to remember that all 3rd party games will look best on Xbox, so showing nier, cyberpunk, and anything else 3rd party is atleast a partial win even if not exclusive." Games looks great too on the PS4 its not like the XBOX ONE X makes the PS4 pro look bad I will not buy Xbox because of third party games Xbox needs to dazzle me with their exclusives So far i can see only GEARS that's it lets see what they do with the new studios specially Ninja Theory
Not the same trio, but 3 Gears actually.
Yeah, the variety that has failed to move consoles, or indirectly saying, failed miserably to attract marketshare hehehe... But then you mentioned Crackdown 3... and I finally realized your satire... sorry, my bad ;)
GOW New Game Plus was the best PS4 announcement Btw the Sony E3 Trifecta TLOU PART2, GHOST OF TSUSHIMA n SPIDEY is way beyond MS league. PS4 is untouchable.
How many of those games will you be playing within a year?
Uhhhhh Crackdown 3, Ori and Forza Horizon 4? ...3/5 games mentioned.
uhhhhh crackdown comes out next year team_litt
What part of within a YEAR are you having trouble with finbars?? It's releasing in February!
I think what's interesting is MS showcased never before seen 3rd party games such as Sekiro and Jump Force. MS did have the same stuff. Halo, Gears, Forza along with Crackdown, Ori and Battletoads. Sony did have the bigger better 1st party games overall. I'm not seeing any losers most of the pressers so far. Bethesda, MS and Sony did very well, while EA is failure at life. Nintendo tomorrow hope they do well.
EA was complete trash. If only they had announced Skate 4 hahaha. Didn't care too much for Bethesda except Doom (not a huge fan of their games I'll admit) but I'm curious about Starfield. ES6 was way too premature but I imagine they dropped that just to get people to stop asking. But I honestly thought MS and Sony both killed it. Sure we saw the big 3 from MS but they also gave us DMC5 and Sekiro with gameplay. Not to mention they clearly heard the feedback and showed all of the studios they acquired which they desperately needed. Also CYBERPUNK too (no gameplay 😭😭😭). Sony killed it with all of the gameplay though. I mean damn Spiderman looks awesome. Also thought Square was garbage too. I knew FF7 was having issues but to not even mention it was a huge fail for them. And Sony had better footage of KH3 than they did.
Funny that Americans don't play fifa. That game alone is a cash cow for EA. And actually, getting the Champions League license is a huge win. But what do I know. Keep ignoring it.
Arent all you xbox fans bored of that list yet. Same old same old yawn.
I love these games, and am excited to play them. More exciting is the future, it is obvious that MS is serious, investing in studios, striking deals with publishers for timed exclusivity and getting Japanese publishers on MS stage is message that they are committed and investing. We won’t see these benefits until next gen but they have made as a good a move as they could have and for me the MS conference was the best conference for gamers. (Irrespective Of platform)
Gears 5 was simply stunning. Ori 2 didn’t think it was possible for it to be more gorgeous than the original.
If that's variety, then gaming is really doomed.
"Action - Crackdown 3" You've intentionally left out the fact that Crackdown is also a 3rd Person Shooter just to make a point.
Variety? LOL, sony never even showed dreams and many other games they could have, MS is the worst for variety. Gears, Halo , Forza, not a single new Ip still.
MS didn't show the open world game Playground is working so....
Sony showed the new IP Control by Remedy why is nobody talking about this why is this game been overlooked. I am very shocked that this game isn't getting any attention.
better variety? sony: dreams - new IP.......death stranding - new IP......ghost of tsushima - new IP. now, lets look at your list : forza - 4th iteration of this series.....gears 5th iteration of this series........crackdown.....3 iteration (if it ever launches) halo infinite - the 6th iteration of the series . i'll take new IPs over games entering their 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th release.
MS just released sea of thieves and stay of decay and bought 4 studios and made one more showing they are serious on this. I enjoyed God of war and uncharted as halo and gears. I don't see why can we have sequels?
Wait you want to talk iterations (should you)? GOW 4 was actually the 8th in the series, and that doesn't even count the 4 game remasters and collection packages Uncharted has 7 iterations now, not counting the recent collection package or the mobile game. Grand Tourismo has what 8 iterations MLB - The Show has what 13 iterations Where was Final Fantasy VII? I remember you guys were so gung-ho about that game three or four years ago when it was announced. Now a no-show. And it even may arrive now as a multi-plat, not the exclusive you fanboys were doing with your tiny chest pounding when it was announced. Yet, you get excited about the same games from last year, and the year before, and the year before that, as if they are new announcements. I will give you that Spider-Man definitely looked good - really good. Day one for me. But, the rest (except for the long-delayed Days Gone) have no real release dates. And what about Death Stranding? It looked like you play a time-traveling FedEx delivery man - that game looks like a mess.
300% agree Sony showed nothing appealing to me
Sorry but no. I would get bored of all of these in no time except maybe Gears and Ori. That can't even compete with what was shown in TLOU2 or Spiderman just by themselves.Lol
Halo infinite... loool ok
Variety! Lmao. Franchises they destroyed years ago lol. Forza h4 looks garbage compared to 3.
UnHoly_One "#9 as well... But you forgot about the Banjo at the beginning as well. What was up with that?" The Rihanna and Tiesto pc/xbot brigade at it again! That was actually Gustavo Santaollala. Look it up yourself if you don't know who that is or what his connection to the event was. I would rather watch him play banjo for 5 hours straight than see again that smug, greasy Spencer's knob.
A gamingbolt article, of course! They didn’t sabotage anything and E3 definitely doesn’t need to be “won”. I’m not sure why people are obsessed with that.
I like how you called Gears 5 a "3rd person shooter" but Crackdown 3 is "action"...they are both action 3rd person shooters.
None of these games come close to comparing to Sony’s exclusives. Like it not even close.
I’d say Forza Horizon compared pretty well but that’s about it
I cant say variety is key with those games when there Franchises that come very often which will cancel out. But what blows my mind is that everyone has been talking about Spider-Man,tlou2,death stranding and Ghost of Tsushima which are great and different variety styles of gameplay but what about Remedy and 505s new game Control. I was more interested in that game and wanting more then the other 4. I feel bad that this game is being overlooked and not talked about at all instead everyone is arguing over who won E3 and what games looked best over the competitor. Take a deep breath everyone and stop being so narrow minded.
Same old same old yawn.
Forza, Gears, Halo = variety.
Microsoft does have a better variety compared to all the JRPGs Sony mainly focuses on.
Yes it was. Somehow I like that it demonstrates noise, smoke and mirrors of a typical conference can impress people (or the media) more that the facts. People are easily influenced by what is after all, marketting. Sure thats what E3 is about, with the usual who won crap. It doesnt have to be that way though. It doesnt have to be the way the press tells us it is. Look at the article tltle. It should be about the games and real information
agreed. i own a ps4 - i want to see the games i'll be playing in the next year. the "who won" nonsense plays itself out over years - not at individual shows.. other than not seeing a new demon souls or syphon filter from sony, i was very happy with their games and gameplay.
The spectacle of the conferences are fun and fuel the debates. The shade thrown at the competition. If I wanted to just see games I would wait for trailers uploaded to youtube and there would be no need for a conference.
I think it threw a lot of us because they wanted to demonstrate something really artsy, gutsy, and different. They've already got the volume (# games, #exclusived, #gamers), so they don't need to prove that and you can see trailers anytime. They went on a limb and did something ballsy, like constructing a tent that looks like a scene in a game and then moving everyone. I like surprises and technology news better than seeing scenes from games I'm gonna play later, so it wasn't my cup of tea, but I think I understand why they did it.
They didn't show Dreams!!
Is this sarcasm? If not then rewatch the conference. The little bits between reveals was done using dreams.
Yeah. They didn't "show" Dreams. Just used it for in-between trailer segments.
As in revealing new info and showing it like the other game
