Did Anyone Else Get a Tenchu Vibe from Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice?

A classic game is echoed during Microsoft’s presser.

Polygon: "The Tenchu series has an interesting history. Activision purchased the rights to the series from Sony Music Entertainment, and later sold those rights to ... FromSoftware. It might be a coincidence, but FromSoftware’s partner in creating Sekiro is ... Activision. The two companies co-published a Tenchu game, called Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven, in 2003, with FromSoftware handling the game in Japan and Activision handling publishing worldwide."

I definitely did, and almost thought it was Rikimaru for two seconds. Maybe it's a spiritual successor, but that's a shot in the dark.

While it's obviously different in many respects (much deeper combat for one) I did get a Tenchu vibe from the game. The dark feudal Japan setting, the stealth mechanics like sliding back against the wall, the grappling hook, etc defintely reminded me of Tenchu, which is awesome in my book since Tenchu is one of my favorite series of all time.

Sekiro Shadows Die Twice is basically my dream game. I sent emails to From Software suggesting a revival of Tenchu or a similar new IP with a dark, mystical feudal Japan setting, hardcore stealth action gameplay and challenging, deep combat. Sekiro seems to be very close to what I was imagining and I'm just incredibly excited that it is being made.

I did not. It was way more focused on combat scenarios and not stealth gameplay.

Yeah I saw way more Nioh than Tenchu. Really excited for SDT though, From has been on fire! Would it be too much to ask for an other Armored Core?

Maybe a little, like when he used the grappling hook

I thought it looked more like Soul of the Samurai.

My initial thought was why is Onimusha being shown? Then I thought an outdoor Bushido Blade. I think it looks great and seems more character focused than DS titles.

Oh Onimusha, how I miss thee...

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Review

If you are a fan of Souls games or a borderline masochist, you will, without a doubt, love Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice because it is a masterpiece. It is a must-play for all hardcore gamers.

Hells yeah. Would love to see another really tight action focused title next. Be cool if he did something completely different, like a cyborg-ninja game.
