Is it just me or does it seem like racing games like gt and Forza are starting not to be as much of an impact like back in the day when GT games use to sell 10 million plus easily? Just seems like people want more than just a real racing simulator nowadays.

showtimefolks2146d ago

Gt sports has sold quite well and has stayed in top 10 -20 range since launch. But I agree it's due to other sim racers flooding the market too

Forza has had too many releases in my opinion

TLG19912146d ago

Yep, Forza feels over saturated, GT seems to take to long and has had to many mishaps with its last few releases. need for speed... nuf said. There are just a lot that are disappointing or not innovating.

Funnily enough the one i have had most fun with and thought was going in a good direction for racing games but got the most shit was Driveclub. The game was stylish, the content was packed (after a while) and the online worked great (after a while) the concept of that game was brilliant.

Knushwood Butt2146d ago

I had a blast with Driveclub, and I normally only touch more sim oriented stuff.

Still plan to get the bikes expansion someday.

Knushwood Butt2146d ago

Sad to say that motorsport in general is going down the same path.

This year Toyota is the only manufacturer competing in LMP1 at Le Mans.

Mercedes is pulling out of DTM.

Just my opinion, but I can't stand Formula E.

Doomeduk2146d ago (Edited 2146d ago )

I'm racing currently A/S ranking on gt sport but however much I like it, when the daily race drops on suzuka or nurbergring and a few others I find I just can't go ahead and race them and quit for a day
I'm 40 now and been on racing games and going to race tracks since I was around 10 yrs old and these real world tracks just bore the hell out of me now.
The other day I needed to claw back some HD space and looked at deleting Drive club as I've not played since GT sport released, loaded it up first to make sure I was doing the right thing, and after the shock of 30 fps my eyes adjusted and I was hooked all over again with the well designed made up circuits and the theatre of the driving physics
And I think it's the same with xbox owners as in they look forward to the next Horizon than they do to the circuit version.

Knushwood Butt2146d ago

I was introduced to racing by my parents from an early age.

Oulton Park and some rally in deep woods are my earliest memories.

Pretty sure I lost a Star Wars figure in sand dunes at the side of the Oulton Park track. I could even guesstimate at the location.

For real world circuits, some I like, some not.

Having said that, I love Suzuka to drive, but hate Motegi (simply to drive, not factoring in human competition).

BenRC012145d ago

GT/forza7 is boring as hell that's why. Horizon is the future.

The Lasting Legacy Gran Turismo Sport Had On A New Generation Of Sim Racers

On the day that Gran Turismo Sport’s online services are switched off for good, a reflection on how impactful the game was for the sim racing industry.

purple10182d ago

fantastic game

innovative match making with player ettiquite tasked into account

GT7 improves on it with:

all the same tracks + loads more tracks
all the same cars + loads more cars
improved / new physics
dualsense support + haptics for road bumps
improved lighting + weather changable mid race
much more vast one player races, challenges, leagues etc.

more of an iteration than a revelation, but what they improve, they have improved so drastically it is deffo worth getting.

Why Gran Turismo Sport’s Final Update Bodes Well for GT7's Preservation

GT Sport, like Gran Turismo 7, requires internet to save. But now that its servers are going dark, that requirement is being removed.

McLaren has turned its Vision Gran Turismo concept into a real car

First an in-game concept car for GT Sport and Gran Turismo 7, the BC08 Solus GT has turned the virtual into the reality for 25 lucky customers.

ApocalypseShadow611d ago

Dat Vision Gran Turismo. Always getting new concept cars. Art imitating life imitating art.

If it's not "The Real Driving Simulator," it's definitely "The Real Car Creator."

MajorLazer610d ago

Actually, the manufacturers design the VGT cars so really manufacturers are "imitating" their own creations. Still, the VGT program has some relevance, which I argued on GTPlanet too.

purple101610d ago (Edited 610d ago )

I saw on YouTube the other day Lamborghini have also turned their vision Gt car into a real life car.

DaniMacYo610d ago

Yeah seen this so cool hope it comes to the game.

aaronaton610d ago

It just shows the talent that is at Polyphony Digital when real manufacturer's are that impressed with their designs.
Meanwhile over at Turn10....Hotwheels, Lego, and Minecraft avatars.

INMATEofARKHAM610d ago

What are you talking about... Car was designed by McLaren.
