Sometimes it's the little things that make a game more immersive!

MWH188d ago

100%, it elevates the gameplay experience to different heights.

warriorcase188d ago

Agreed! The little things help fill out the whole so much more. I always love looking for the little details that a lot of devs leave out. Stuff like Self shadowing, footprints, decal effects, wind simulation etc. Looking forward to this game.

Day 1 for me. This summers gunna be expensive! I'll have to pre-order this, Spiderman, and Yakuza Kiwami before my Bestbuy Gamers Club discount lapses.

combatcash188d ago

Same here bro, one of the best franchises available today. Same level of quality as uncharted IMO.

kneon188d ago

Perhaps the next one, we'll have to wait and see, but certainly not the previous release.

I played Uncharted 4, Uncharted Lost Legacy and then Rise of the Tomb Raider back to back to back and the quality difference was obvious. I'm not talking graphically, when it come to the animations, voice acting, story, dialog etc. it just didn't hold up to Uncharted level of quality. It was a different kind of game though with the crafting and exploration so that was a plus for TR.

No multiplat game will ever play, look better than a game made exclusively for a console be it xbox or ps4.

starchild188d ago

That's isn't true. There are plenty of multiplats I've played that looked better than some PS4 or XB1 exclusives. I would agree that exclusives tend to look better than multiplats on average, but only on average. There are plenty of games (like The Witcher 3, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Star Wars Battlefront 2, Battlefield 1, etc.) that look better than quite a number of exclusives.

I kno what you mean. The only thing I like more about Tomb Raider was the bow. I have a weakness for bows. Lol

I don't need any of those... I have SoT. 😏

UltraNova188d ago

Somehow someway I lost interest in this franchise...I dont know exactly why... maybe its because we do not need two Uncharteds? They should have stuck with TR's platforming and exploration.

I've owned all the mainline Uncharted games as well as the excellent Lost Legacy. I've always found the Tomb Raider games to be more gritty and immersive. Lara getting impaled when making a platforming error still makes me cringe.

I've always appreciated the skill system and hefty side content of Tomb Raider games as well.

Uncharted has better visuals, writing, and supporting cast...but Tomb Raider has the deeper gameplay(skill system, weapon upgrades etc.), better protagonist (IMO), better enemy variety (animals etc.), and mature themes.

I can't objectively say that one is better than the other, but each franchise excels in different areas that other doesn't.

UltraNova188d ago

I cant fault your argument but the me too syndrome is just too much to pretend its not there. That said, I have to acknowledge the fact that I'm seeing this through the lens of a PS gamer whete the Uncharted series is exclusive so Xbox and PC gamers are good with the recent TR games, so thats that.

AspiringProGenji188d ago (Edited 188d ago )

Uncharted = Action > survival
TR: = Survival > Action

The end

BehindTheRows188d ago (Edited 188d ago )

The protagonist (at least this new Lara) is very one-dimensional, unlike Drake. The older Lara was a FAR more interesting character. The only area I agree with you on is the deeper game-play. Otherwise, Uncharted beats the newest Tomb Raiders in all other features.

That said, if this new one can feel more Tomb Raider 2013, I'll be a happy guy!

rivaldoo777188d ago

I can agree on enemy variety but the gunplay is more tight in U4 than ROTTR. Having skill perks don't make the gameplay better. It has to do with the the tight gameplay mechanics. TR didn't even had a shoulder shift so that was very uncomfortable to name a few.

InMyOpinion187d ago

I like both but where I find Uncharted to be better in terms of production values I've always ended up having more fun with the Tomb Raider games, 100%-ing both of them.

I remember a time where some mockingly called Uncharted a "Tomb Raider Clone". Now, in an ironic twist of fate, this franchise is trying to be "the clone", so to speak. Tomb Raider lost its identity, imo.

Shame too. Imagine what can be done with its classic formula with this generation's hardware.

DialgaMarine188d ago

Not only is TR the unoriginal game, Uncharted has become far superior in every regard.

ninsigma188d ago

They differentiate themselves well enough for both to stick around imo. I think the biggest problem with the reboot TR games has been the narratives, which have been very poor. With a change in writers since the 2nd game, hopefully the story will be improved in this one.

NiteX188d ago

I just bought the Rise game and I played about 2 hours or so. It's very hard to not compare them to the Uncharted games because holy shit they are so damn similar. Unfortunately for Tomb Raider it just feels so generic and lazy compared to the Uncharted games. Naughty Dog really knows how to polish the hell out of their games. The Tomb Raider games aren't bad though, just feel B grade. Like a poor man's Uncharted if you will.

Imalwaysright188d ago

The platforming and climbing that we see in TR today has been present in the franchise since the PS2 days and before Uncharted ever existed.

starchild188d ago

I agree. And most of the changes to the modern Tomb Raider games would have occurred whether Uncharted existed or not. Modern sensibilities and technology are what have influenced the recent Tomb Raider games more than anything. Tomb Raider has always been about exploration, fighting, puzzle solving, platforming and cinematic presentation.

Deep-throat188d ago

Yeah, they made it automated (dumbed down) way before Uncharted. I'm not sure what those PS fanboys are talking about.

monkey602188d ago

I'm with you. I long for the older Tomb Raider style with newer mechanics. The reboot's gritty tone and soulless character has ruined the franchise for me. Eidos do some great development work with the above video working as an example. I remember light work and Laras hair being impressive in "rise" but the game is just joyless.
Almost like Crytek and a Crysis situation

SolidGear3188d ago

I just got interested in the franchise after the reboot :3

Sorry. Feel this series does just about everything better than Uncharted did. Gunplay is better. World traversal is better. Weapon and equipment upgrades. World is more open to exploration.

Did they steal the formula of Uncharted during the reboot? Sure.
Did they improve upon it? Of course.

ClanPsi1187d ago

I find them to be quite different experiences thematically. Uncharted is a light-hearted adventure with a with witty characters. Tomb Raider is almost a survival sim (At least for the first half of the game. The second half is.... lame). I honestly wish Eidos would go all in with the survival aspect, with hunger and sh*t playing a role.

They need to concentrate on having a story that's worth a darn.

I'm going to wait for a sale. I have to many games I want in September.
