May charts: God of War remains at No.1, Nintendo continues to go from strength to strength

The PS4 is stronger than ever while the Switch made more money than the Xbox One at retail this May.

SuperSaiyanGod412154d ago

I knew Detroit or demon souls remaster would drop god of war from the number one spot but damn to jump back up to the number one spot again in May is crazy for a god of war game. Congratulations again Cory Barlog and SSM. Well deserved and good to see Detroit still doing well at number 5 especially for the type of game it is.

Cheers was too late to edit my comment to fix it.

God of War is selling like it deserves to, extraordinarily well.

Nyxus2154d ago

So Detroit only needed two days to reach nr 5 on the charts for the entire month? That's very impressive, glad to see the game doing well!

UCForce2154d ago

Both of PS4 games are doing pretty well.

Kribwalker2153d ago

state of decay as well, needing 4 days for number 6 is also impressive

DialgaMarine2153d ago

@Kribwalker SoD2 is also a multiplat.

MuddyWaters2153d ago

Good to see, this should highlight why we need variety in the industry and not just chasing the current fad like Battle Royale.

SuperSaiyanGod412153d ago

State of decay did well but isn't it also $30 if I'm not mistaken.

Kribwalker2153d ago

@dialga

Yet this chart is physical only, and you can only buy the physical copy on Xbox......

but it’s also on gamepass too, so that makes it even more impressive 😉

zeuanimals2153d ago

@Kribwalker

It would be impressive if it was a good game. But the fact that it's selling so well even though it's not shouldn't be something to be impressed by. That just shows how desperate people are for any Xbox exclusives, good or bad.

IamTylerDurden12153d ago (Edited 2153d ago )

Krib

The fact that SoD2 is selling is more a sign that Xbox is severely lacking in quality content rather than a sign of it being a quality game. It seems to be a technical mess and a very uninspiring sequel, so they say. It's a 67 Open Critic https://opencritic.com/game...

Tobse2153d ago

Love this logic. Everybody is saying people only get Xbox games on gamepass. If the game still sells well its because multiplat, yet its not even available physical on PC. Next excuse is the lacking games excuse for it to sell well. Gotta move that goalpost hard eh

IamTylerDurden12151d ago (Edited 2151d ago )

Nailhead

Like the other side doesn't move the goalpost? The excuse for every Xbox "exclusive" that under performs is that "Microsoft no longer cares about sales, it's all about engagement".

Is SoD2 even selling well? Microsoft literally said the same thing about SoT. They said the same "2 million players" stat and said it was breaking multiple sales records. But in reality it sold 202k its first week. I'm interested to see if SoD2 can even outsell the 2 million sales of the original. Instead of vague engagement numbers it'd be nice to see some sales figures.

Honestly Detroit looks like shit to me, I'll pick it up when it's £20. I thought Beyond: Two Souls was awful.

IamTylerDurden12153d ago (Edited 2153d ago )

Detroit has received solid reviews and many people call it QD's best game yet. It's been hovering around 80 Metacritic since launch and it has beautiful production value. Your hate is ill advised. Perhaps the Battle Royale genre is more your speed?

Kribwalker2153d ago

that’s my plan. rent or by cheap in 2 months

GruntboxWizard2151d ago

Well I loved Heavy Rain and i'm happy for the developers but it doesn't seem like my cup of tea. It's just not for me.

UCForce2154d ago

God of War is a masterpiece. It surpassed my expectations. Great Job, SSM and Cory Barlog ! And Detroit Become Human, congratulations QD.

MasterCornholio2154d ago

I'm so glad it's doing well. That's the way to show them Sony.

showtimefolks2153d ago (Edited 2153d ago )

Detroit did well for being in the market for only few days to still end up high in monthly charts

I think it's safe to assume God of war will at the very least sell 10 plus million and life time sales could even hit 12-15 million

DialgaMarine2153d ago

10 million sales is a possibility by the end of this alone, especially seeing how its still so popular on YouTube.

showtimefolks2153d ago

I think it will continue to sell to stay within top 5-10 for next few months. It's already the best selling god of war game of all time

IamTylerDurden12153d ago (Edited 2153d ago )

God of War will eat 10 mill, probably 12 lifetime. Detroit will probably sell a few million. If Detroit hits 3 they're good. Regardless, it's nice to see Sony spit out quality exclusives.

Flewid6382153d ago

It's crazy....regardless of how polarizing reviews are for Quantic Dream games, they still sell well.

Gamers speak louder than reviews.

showtimefolks2153d ago

My issue with reviewers is that instead of reviewing the game for what it is they review them for what they want the game to be

IamTylerDurden12153d ago

But the game got good reviews, it's been hovering around 80 Metacritic since launch.

Liqu1d2153d ago

Traditional reviews are honestly becoming less and less relevant. People nowadays will watch gameplay on Twitch and YouTube and they'll rather listen to likeminded internet personalities than some random guy at IGN or Gamespot who barely plays games.

Looking Ahead: The Lingering Questions About the Next Mario Kart

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "10 years. It’s been almost 10 years since the last mainline release in the Mario Kart series. Mario Kart 8 came out for the Wii U in 2014 and became the best-selling game for the system by a sizeable margin, and later pulled the same magic trick on the Nintendo Switch under the stage name Deluxe. All in all, it's sold nearly 70 million copies over the last decade and is still selling like hot cakes to this day, so it’s no wonder Nintendo has been in no rush to replace it. However, with rumors of a new system being just around the corner, and reports a few years back that a new Mario Kart is indeed under way, it seems the era of 8 might very well be drawing to a close. It’s an exciting prospect to be sure, but after two Nintendo systems with Mario Kart 8 at their heart, a lot of questions remain about how Nintendo will choose to follow it up."

I hope they just keep building on Mario Kart 8; Add a track-creation tool, and probably open it up to more Nintendo IPs with new tracks and characters, so Metroid, Punch Out, Starfox, Animal Crossing, etc etc.

there wont be a new one until the switch 2 comes out.

nintendo needs their bangers early on

The 7 Best Selling Switch Games of All Time

The Nintendo Switch has been an undeniable success for Nintendo, but which games make the best selling chart for the console?

GotGame81871d ago

Animal crossing came out the week the entire world shutdown. Yeah I bought it.

kevco3371d ago

Agreed. I think a lot of the AC: H sales have to do with early lockdown players!

I mean, I would've played it anyway. But I guess there's a lot of people who got into it because of the hype and their new found free time!

DivineHand12571d ago

Nintendo made out like bandits with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It's the same game that was on the WiiU except they added 2 item boxes like in double dash.

kevco3371d ago

It's the Capcom method:

1. Add a new word to the end of the title and features that should've been expected first time around.
2. Charge full price for it.
3. Profit.

gold_drake71d ago

this is why i always say that Nintendo will always be fine. look at those numbers lol

and those are all first party games.
