hope sony solves this ,but its only a matter of time and im suprised the xb1 and ps4 havent been hacked by now.

what i find really annoying is everything is a JAILBREAK!!!!!!!! when it isnt

Christopher2525d ago

What do they need to fix? PS4 is on 5.55, they just started cracking 5.05.

They are over a year behind.

neoandrew2525d ago

A year? 5.05 was released 18 jan 2018, not even full 6 months. And they are not started cracking it, it is already cracked, software is there from previous firmware hacks, so basically it is now possible to play any game that requires 5.05 or lower.

Still this isn't a full exploit, any new game or game update that requires fw > 5.05 wont be able to run, they cant spoof higher fw as they did with ps3.

mkis0072525d ago

A great way for them to fix all future exploits would be to have games require a console firmware upgrade every 6 months so that if one didn't upgrade their console at a certain point the game would be unplayable. So at the base level a hack that requires a certain firmware would be useless. ( The games would be programmed to expect a certain patch level by a certain point in the year). IDK if they could get around spoofing the date though unless there was a system level date hidden.

Obviously it would have to be thought out to a point where those without internet could get the patch.

Cobra9512525d ago

Think about what that would mean, mkis007. Continued game functionality tied to future patches? What a terrible idea. You would have to be a subscriber to some online service forever, and your games could be changed without your consent, or taken away altogether. If the service ends or you do something the service providers don't like, the games die when the next patch is due. Ridiculous.

Christopher2525d ago

***And they are not started cracking it, it is already cracked, software is there from previous firmware hacks, so basically it is now possible to play any game that requires 5.05 or lower. ***

None of that is true. They have exploits but are not playing PS4 games. They're able to install other software and boot it to run, but not cracked games in general.

Sharky2312525d ago

@mkis007

That sounds too much like the always online idea the Xbox one had! I’ll pass! They can just keep doing what there doing now!!

rainslacker2525d ago (Edited 2525d ago )

@mki

The firmware that's available when a game goes gold comes on every retail disc, and can be loaded if a newer version isn't present. If one updates regularly, they won't need it. As far as I know, it isn't automatic, so it doesn't prompt you. I just know it's required to be there, but know of no loading mechanism for the user. I assume Sony could make that available of its not.

@neon

I'm not aware that any game requires a specific level o f firmware. Anything required to run a game is included in the game build, as it's typically faster. Firmware doesn't really handle the operation of games on that level, just the access to the system itself. Everything else is just side loaded at build time.

CurbStompin2524d ago

5.05 was released in mid January 2018. That’s only 4 months ago bruh.

So define what you would call a jailbreak cause it's technically breaking out of a confined OS and hacking the system to run third party unauth software be it a SNES emulator or pirate game to a home made game.

A jailbreak opens the door it's then its up to the user to decide what they do with it.

Although most people would use it to pirate games yeah.

rainslacker2525d ago

Jailbreak typically refers to completely removing user.restrictions from the hardware or software. As of right now, the hacks don't allow access to the game hyper visor where most of the drm resides, and some of the stuff that has been hacked in other places still has limited access for the users.

So, if call this a partial jailbreak of the OS layer. Not of the system itself.

Chumdiddy2525d ago

Awesome, sans piracy.

Then again, piracy has been shown time and time again to HELP overall sales. The vast majority of console pirating is from less than 0.5% of users and those were people that were never going to purchase anyway.

What it does is add people to your fanbase that may purchase items they can't pirate and future releases in the series.

Piracy only hurts when it's easily accessible by the masses. PC pirating can sometimes be a bit of an issue. Music pirating in the 90s/early 2000s hurt sales. Still, the hit was never that big. Studies proved this to the point that companies hid their own results about it while decrying it's harm.

I don't pirate or condone it. I dont cheat online or condone it but I do condone YOU owning the devices YOU bought. I like features given via CFW but we're not there yet on PS4. It's only homebrew/development and piracy, atm.

agent132525d ago (Edited 2525d ago )

exactly, i know a lot of people who became ps fans by pirated ps2 and ps3s now they are gaming on ps4 and they buy all the games legally from psn
and jailbreak doesn't just mean piracy you can do a lot of awesome things like installing Linux and windows or emulate old games or make your ps4 a media center

Aenea2525d ago

Yup! I loved the PSP because of it, made some stuff for it too, emulators for instance and dabbled around a lot, loved it!

It's kinda a shame that there can't be a way for Sony/MS to make something where users can code their own things in a really fenced off environment. With a VM they can properly fence it off from the rest of the system.

Chumdiddy2525d ago (Edited 2525d ago )

People can get as asspained as they want but it's true.

99.99% of the time a pirate was never going to buy. Ever.

Access to the product actually helps future sales from them. So few pirate when they have an option, thats why most pirates are from countries with less expendable income. It's also harder to pirate.

Its why most here get angry about the truth lol. They don't pirate. They can afford it or their parents can. They're fine. They were always going to buy.
Pirates wouldn't have EVER jumped into a user base without piracy. When it's below 1% of users it HELPS sales.

Chumdiddy2525d ago

Aenea,

Exactly. PSP is a system I did install CFW on for emulators alone. Because of that, I bought a PSP when I NEEEEVER would have otherwise. Then, I bought some games for it.

I spent about $500-750 on the PSP all because I had a reason to buy one. The experience of having accessed it made Sony money from me where they'd have had none.

A game is no different (when pirated on low levels). It adds to the user base with no hit on sales. Those new users are then more likely to buy new games of the series, merch, etc.

yomfweeee2525d ago

There's no proof piracy increases sales.

Chumdiddy2525d ago

Except there is, across a platform seeing piracy.

yomfweeee2525d ago

Except there isn't. See I can do it too? Where's your proof?

rainslacker2525d ago

There was a surge on psp and ps2 sales when the first mods or hacks became readily available. However, those.also coincided with marketing or game releases, so there is no real way to say the what was more significant.

Piracy is more likely to harm software sales that hardware, and the console makers care more about software sales.

agent132525d ago (Edited 2525d ago )

It will be eventually jailbroken by the time ps5 releases a lot of hackers are working on it.
only people who live in poor and third world countries (like mine) would jailbreak their consoles and play pirated games REAL users would never do this and sony will not lose any money. personally i'm extremely against piracy and don't like it and will never pirate games on ps4.
but what can you do when your monthly income is 200 usd and a game is 60$? that's what makes some people in my country pirate games and that's sad

2525d ago
Toolster2525d ago

What can you do???? Sounds like they SAVED for the console! So do the same for games, you'll need to save a lot less to buy a game than a console!! No justification for pirating.

nucky642525d ago

so, you're saying you can't afford games - BUT, you can afford to buy the equipment to pirate the games? ever hear the word hypocrisy?

InTheZoneAC2525d ago

I don't steal expensive cars that I can't afford. What can I say?

Cohagen4202524d ago

Appreciate the honesty, I pay for games but download movies/music.

‘GTA V Gets Pulled from PS Plus as PC Players Continue to Favor Legacy Over Enhanced’

That’s an awful clickbait title. The use of the word ‘as’ means the first statement is the result of the second, when in reality they’re not connected.

Profchaos5h ago

Also the same for red dead redemption 2 and GTA trilogy (albeit they split that into individual games)

Tacoboto3h ago

It just got put back on Game Pass recently too.

GTA V is the pass-around sub title, and it probably doesn't even matter because everyone owns a copy or even two by now.

FortWaba7h ago

Trash article and trash website.

Doesn't even mention WHEN it's leaving.
