Sounds like it'll be out this year, finally!

KaiPow174d ago

I see this taking up the same time Horizon Zero Dawn was released in. Not too much competition.

JaguarEvolved174d ago

Good news to me. I can't wait to buy this game on day one.

morganfell174d ago

That's what was stated but I expect that decision to be reversed at E3. The earliest the game would be released in the new year is the first part of February. You do not polish a completed game for 8 months.

@morganfell: God of War was playable from start to finish at the beginning of 2017, yet it didn't release until April 2018, I'm pretty sure Cory Barlog was saying in Jan 2017 the game was fully playable.

Bend are a small studio, even with outsourcing there's probably still a lot of work to be done to get the game to run and play exactly to Sony's standards to make the target audience happy.

Bend are said to be ahead of their goals and could have launched this year, but they want to release when the game is both perfect and out in a less cluttered climate.

No doubt the game couldn't be ready in 3 or 4 months, to avoid the major, established games, so it's best to give the studio even more time and release in the first half of 2019.

"God of War was playable from start to finish at the beginning of 2017"

You are taking things out of context. There is a vast difference between being playable and being finished. Those two terms are not reconcilable. A lot of games are in early Beta and are playable from start to finish. They are not close to being finished. That is the very definition of a true beta. All major features are in the game and workable to some degree. That is a far cry from being done.

It's already confirmed for Spring 2019 release date. So I reckon it'll be February/March 2019.

Neonridr174d ago

to be honest, there is no need to rush. It's not like the system is hurting for games. Might as well make sure it's polished by the time it releases instead of rushing it to hit some deadline.

UCForce174d ago

Well, the game is playable from start to finish and now they can focus on tuning and polishing the game. It’s good to see Bend Studio take this issue seriously.

UCForce174d ago (Edited 174d ago )

Besides, it’s going to be released next year. So yeah, they will have plenty of times.

Kribwalker174d ago

Nice to see the Dev admitting something everyone was calling clickbait by “because now we can really pay attention to making it more fun ”

I know they have a lot of time to fix it up with release coming next year, let’s see if they can take the criticisms and make the necessary changes

Bend Studio will have plenty of times for this. The game is finished and playable and now they only need to make sure the game is polish.

BehindTheRows174d ago (Edited 174d ago )

Not everyone called it clickbait. Plus, Bend is simply stating what every dev should - that they'll have a release date when it's ready, and in the mean time, will be polishing it up. They haven't 'admitted' to anything, though.

Besides, the last company I'm worried about releasing messy and unfinished games is Sony.

Alexious174d ago

Yeah, they have enough on their lineup that there is no particular rush for this game. The developers can take their time

OB1Biker174d ago (Edited 174d ago )

Who was calling what clickbait?
From the GI first coverage reveal they said within minute 'be aware that this is not optimized, its alpha (or pre beta as I thought I heard the dev say)'

It seems a lot of people were misinformed.

trooper_174d ago

Good to see you're still trolling, as usual.

Kribwalker174d ago

what trolling. everyone said the engadget and ign and gamespot previews were clickbait, the dev acknowledged they need to work to make it more fun. So those articles weren’t clickbait then were they?
