Playstation dominates gaming market, Xbox is the worst performer across the globe.

More news at 11.

Abriael2576d ago (Edited 2576d ago )

Actually Xbox One is second, at least for Ubisoft game sales.

Kribwalker2576d ago

lol, these guys eh 🙈. You are correct Abriael. Xbox one is 2nd in games sales. Half the consoles but greater then half the ps4 sales of games, which equals a better attach rate on the xbox one for ubisoft games 😉

"which equals a better attach rate on the xbox one for ubisoft games"

O.o True!

Christopher2576d ago (Edited 2576d ago )

The problem is their attach rate went down YOY. That's not a good sign. With Switch being added, you would think PS4 would have lost more YOY, but Microsoft did 4% less and Sony only 1% less with the 7% gain on Switch (and almost complete exit of last gen devices).

The Q4 comparison is even more of a loss of %.

Xx_Pistol_xX2576d ago (Edited 2576d ago )

@Obscure_Observer I'm sure Ubisoft cares more about the Xbox attach rate than the PS4 sales. Please stop it.

Alucard_4202576d ago

no one will ever know for a fact which has better attach rate, you all know MS does not discloses actual numbers. PS4 actually had a 15% edge at 36% to MS 21%. unless we know for a fact how many XBOX were sold you're all acting like a bunch of trolls.

Very impressive numbers by PS4. Clearly PS4 is moving consoles, 1st party games, and 3rd party games. PlayStation leads the console/regular gaming market as well as the VR HMD market. It's nice to see the restructuring several years ago actually benefit gamers. Sony is more focused on games than ever, and it shows.

Chevalier2576d ago

@Krib and Obscure

Ubisoft don't give a crap about 'attach' rate. Its like how MS keeps their own stupid metrics like 'engagement'. All Ubisoft and companies care about is sales not stupid percentages that can be manipulated to look good. PS4 sells millions more games and more revenue is more important. If Ubisoft sold say 50 million games last year lets say for example the PS4 being +19% translates into another 9.5 million units more on PS4. Thats not something to scoff at. At say and average price of say $50 per game thats over half a billion dollars more for sales on PS4 side. You'd be an absolute idiot to think something like that kind of revenue is less important than 'attach'.

So look at the decrease in sales % for Xbox games this last quarter compared to the same quarter last year. Naturally percent of the total goes down due to Switch software entering the picture, but Xbox's share got hit way more than PS4s. MAYBE sales are still increasing but not at the same rate as other platforms. Another year of this and PC will overtake Xbox as #2...

ocelot072576d ago

Agreed PC gaming is more appealing than ever now. Sure at the moment RAM prices are high and GPU prices are coming down again. I think once the RAM prices ramp up more people will move to PC gaming.

Not only do you get the best version of 3rd party games most of the time. You also get access to 20+ years of PC games. As well as PC exclusives, old console emulation, no fees to pay for online, cheaper games and access to Microsoft games so you don't need to invest in a Xbox One since you will have a PC that can access them.

The money you save on PC games and online access fees. It will payback the high entry point into PC gaming pretty quickly. The more money you save the more money you will have to buy a PS4 or a Switch or both for exclusives games.

TekoIie2576d ago

To be honest Unisoft is the real reason their sales aren't better on PC. Anyone who has bought a game through Uplay knows just how terrible it is compared to Steam or Origin but you're forced to use it.

I remember on numerous occasions buying games and not being able to play them for days because Uplay just wouldn't work.

Until they put more work into the platform it's not going to change.

crazyCoconuts2576d ago

I agree with the attractiveness of PC, especially with the way Xbox went with exclusives. I sold my X1 and got a 1080 card last year and have been super happy. But it's definitely not for the technology illiterate (like my kids) that are used to turning on their tablets / phones and expecting them to just work. It takes some elbow grease and I just don't see the upcoming generation wanting to bother with it. My money is on PCb gaming decreasing over time, but I could be wrong

kevnb2576d ago (Edited 2576d ago )

n4g isn't really a pc gaming crowd so you will get disagrees, but pc gaming is bigger than any console platform by far. Consoles for the most part only have games catered towards specific demographics, pc caters to everyone in the world. Now when it comes to the specific type of games you find on console, its usually ps4 first, pc second and then xbox/nintendo.

FinalFantasyFanatic2576d ago

Ram prices might go down if the accusations of price fixing are true and win out.

MrVux0002576d ago (Edited 2576d ago )

"Agreed PC gaming is more appealing than ever now. Sure at the moment RAM prices are high and GPU prices are coming down again. I think once the RAM prices ramp up more people will move to PC gaming. "

Not disagreeing with the whole notion of PC gaming being more appealing that isn't really news since the PC has been objectively better in pricing and price per performance part since 2009. But alas, judging from the sales of HW so are consoles( getting even more appeal).

"Not only do you get the best version of 3rd party games most of the time. You also get access to 20+ years of PC games. "

Kind of a moot point, considering most people that game on console do know PC offers objectively more graphical options but to them subjectively the difference between the two (PC and consoles) are not big at all to justify the purchase or upgrade. And console folk also have access to game from last 20+ years, either via remasters, services like PS NOW or Xbox B/C, or even by their old consoles.

"As well as PC exclusives, old console emulation, no fees to pay for online, cheaper games and access to Microsoft games so you don't need to invest in a Xbox One since you will have a PC that can access them. "

That really depends, do you really want to play current XboxOne exclusives? And surprisingly digital sales on consoles are holding up with the likes of steam and gog really well (without mentioning second hand market prices....also to the yanks no, Amazon,Ebay and Gamestop are not the only ways to access second hand market).
*The only thing we can all agree here is that despite the "free" games people get monthly online fee is still a cash grab that should not be supported.*

PC exclusives that are truly good(and those are quite rare in last decade or so) are either already available on consoles or will get a release soon enough. Srsly PC has many things that it does better then its console counterparts, but exclusives (quality) is not one of them. And this comes from someone that praised Starcraft 2 and recent Total War games as masterful quality, but playing certain console exclusives they simply pale in comparison. And yes, PC has thousands more games, but id rather trade thousands of crappy indie games and MOBA trash (with few exceptions ofc) for the current quantity of high quality exclusives on consoles.

"The money you save on PC games and online access fees. It will payback the high entry point into PC gaming pretty quickly."
That would depend solely on the users, how much did they invest in their PC and console. Do they like to play mutliplayer or not(do they pay for online fees), do they pay-smart (wait for sales or buy second hand) do they use game-share feature (both physical and digital) on consoles.... etc etc

@Kevnb "sn't really a pc gaming crowd so you will get disagrees"
Yes, because on any PC gaming site he would have gotten a completely unbiased approval? ;)
There is a fair share of console and PC gamers here, and i count myself among those, so you are generalizing bit too much on that part.

The reason the OP got disagrees is not cuz he was making false claims, its because he was only mentioning the ones that cater towards a certain platform while forgetting to mention the other ones that benefit the other side of things.

Consoles have also the content for every type of demographics, but not in such great quantity as PC does.

Not only CDPR but Epic Games as well i still haven't seen any game with that fidelty of that Ps5 tech demo .. that was 2020

VenomUK1d 15h ago (Edited 1d 15h ago )

Digital Foundry in its reaction video said they believe the demo reflects real performance, as overstating it’s competence on PS5 could bring significant risks to Epic Games’ shareholders and legal risks.

Eonjay23h ago

Actually Horizon Forbidden West exceeds this in image quality. So it seems very plausible. Intergalactic is actually beyond this presntation in IQ, RT and resolution and thats locked 60FPS as well. As far as the usage of hardware RT in UE, they were able to reduce the CPU overhead.

This was a tech demo for UE 5.6. That was clearly stated and is evident by the presentation itself where several of the new features of UE are highlighted

This article title is inaccurate because this was not a demo for Witcher 4. It was a technical demonstration of Unreal Engine 5.6.

Christopher1d 22h ago (Edited 1d 22h ago )

***Cyberpunk 2077’s gameplay features that were showcased in initial footage but never made it into the final game***

They literally made a big deal of telling everyone that they changed the gameplay of CP2077 during development and then did a new demo of the game with the new gameplay. There was no hiding this to the public. CP2077's problem with the buggy as heck and obviously too early release.

This is really bad journalism to promote this line of thinking. It's an attempt to rewrite history. You can definitely say you preferred the initial demo, but they were very open and clear when they moved from third-person to first-person that it would include major changes in gameplay and showed those off multiple times a year prior to the game's release.

---

As to the point of this article? Yeah, the whole event is a marketing event. I don't trust anything until it's released, tbh. No matter who is making it. I can still be excited by what I see, but it's not going to get me to pre-order a game or get me to go out there and sell what I saw as if it will be just like that in the full release.

neutralgamer19921d 16h ago

What about the fact CDPR showed gameplay behind closed doors which wasn't real? They dusnt allow anyone to bring their phones or any tech so once media came out of that gameplay reveal CP2077 was hyped to the moon and back. CDPR didn't show console gameplay so let's not act like they were transparent when they switched from 3rd to 1st person when they lied at launch of the game

Christopher1d 16h ago

You mean rumors? You want me to comment on rumors from Bloomberg? We arguing the belief of rumors now and not news?

Here's that fake demo - https://www.youtube.com/wat...

If you've played the game, you know how much that lines up with the final product. That's what I know.

***let's not act like they were transparent when they switched from 3rd to 1st person when they lied at launch of the game***

They literally re-demoed the game with the change, so they were transparent. You're just acting like they weren't when in 2018 they literally demoed the new gameplay. That's 2 years prior to release.

I don't know what they 'lied at launch of the game' is supposed to mean.

-

This game had enough wrong with it at release that we don't need to be arguing rumors and online hatred of the gameplay changes shown in 2018.

neutralgamer19921d 16h ago

Christopher, just to clarify — I'm not trying to be overly negative or dismissive. I fully acknowledge that CD Projekt Red was transparent when they switched from third-person to first-person and even re-demoed the game to reflect that. Credit where it’s due — they did show that change publicly.

But the real issue for me is how the game launched. Despite that transparency earlier on, they deliberately withheld gameplay from the console versions and still charged full price for something that was nowhere near ready. That’s where trust was broken. The game was released in a clearly unfinished and broken state, and it took years to get it into a playable condition. That goes beyond mistakes — that’s a serious failure in leadership and consumer respect.

So when I see something like the Witcher 4 tech demo — and yes, I understand it’s Epic showcasing Unreal Engine 5 — I can’t help but approach it with caution. It’s not blind skepticism, but earned skepticism. A lot of the original developers have left CDPR, so we can’t assume this next game will automatically reach Witcher 3 levels of excellence.

I want it to be amazing. We all do. But I’m not going to fully believe the hype until independent gamers and trusted content creators — people with a reputation for honesty and not being paid off — get their hands on it and say, “Yes, this is great.” Until then, it’s just marketing.

They built up enormous goodwill after The Witcher 3 and the free DLCs — but they lost much of that with Cyberpunk's release. Even platform holders like PlayStation and Xbox, who once trusted CDPR to self-certify, don’t anymore. That alone speaks volumes.

Again, it’s not hate — it’s caution born from experience

CrimsonIdol1d 15h ago

"Despite that transparency earlier on, they deliberately withheld gameplay from the console versions"
It was a multiplatform release, and yes they botched it, but clearly consoles weren't lead development platform, PC was. They clearly were hoping that they could get everything together by launch, and this was a mistake. I think them showing this running on a PS5 is a clear indicator that they've learnt from this.

But there are plenty of reasons not to get too excited about this, and it's not hidden behind any lies, it's right there watermarked on the footage. this is a technical presentation of the Unreal 5 engine, running on the PS5 at 60fps. This is technology that may be in the Witcher, this is not the Witcher.

Lightning771d 21h ago

Because it is marketing. Epic did the flying sand girl in 2020 now this with Witcher. I still wanna see what games shows the original showing of Unreal 5? It's been 5 years exactly.

Michiel19891d 17h ago

ofc it is, no real gameplay suddenly xrays a horse to show how its muscles are moving realistically.

CrimsonIdol1d 14h ago

It literally had text telling you it wasn't gameplay.

Extermin8or3_21h ago

They were literally showing off the fact it seamlessly can transition from gameplay to ctsceme those aspects of presentation were clear cutscenes....
