GI: "Join us as we break down five ways Days Gone sets itself apart from other open-world games."

"Imagine if this were like Uncharted," says Days Gone writer and creative director John Garvin. "A 20-hour game that is very linear and it has a bunch of setpieces and it goes from beginning to end. We wanted to try to have that, but have that in an open world."

That sounds really cool. Glad they're putting their own stamp on the cinematic narrative formula.
----

"After facing off against a horde ourselves, we can say that not only are these epic showdowns legit, they are unlike any other zombie game we've played to date. It took us several tries with a fully upgraded and well-stocked Deacon to take one down during our demo –only to have game director Jeff Ross tell us that it was considered a "baby horde" of just 300 enemies, and that other hordes get a lot bigger."

These moments sounds like they're going to be sheer madness. Can't wait to see more of the horde.

OB1Biker2604d ago

Very happy they went for story focus first and formost.
Here s for the people who were going 'its a generic zombie open world' to change their song into 'its an interactive movie game'

Dark_Knightmare22604d ago (Edited 2604d ago )

Getting downvotes for being excited for the game man fanboys never cease to amaze me. I’m with you it sounds like they are trying to bring something unique to the open world genre and the zombie hordes are going to be legit we’ve never seen anything like it in a game.

ArchangelMike2604d ago

I'm beginning to realise that the more I hear about this game the less I want to know. I feel like I know enough now to trust Bend Studio to deliver on this one. I think the uncertainty about the game has lead to the deep dive with Game Informer, but I don't want them to spoil too much of the game.

DarkZane2604d ago

The more I hear about it, the more I want the game right now. It's so close, yet so far away.

salmonade2604d ago

I am so excited for this game.

PCgamer982604d ago

Day one for me, saw the gameplay and it's like a well polished state of decay.

ONESHOTV22604d ago (Edited 2604d ago )

"Imagine if this was like Uncharted," says Days Gone writer and creative director John Garvin." and this statement has killed any thought of me supporting this game and can we get some thing original if I want to play uncharted which I dont I would have bought it for my pro when it was launched plz sony last gen we had many many different types of games and not just interactive movies but shooters racers and many other games why are you just focused on copy and paste in all of your games it makes no sense any way I will pass on this I guess I will see what spider man can do when it's released

UCForce2604d ago (Edited 2604d ago )

Do you really think it’s a bad thing ? Uncharted series are great franchise really. Can you say Horizon Zero Dawn is interactive movie ? People say God Of War like The Last of Us which show how wrong these people were. You know Bend Studios make Uncharted: Golden Abyss, right ?

ONESHOTV22604d ago

"Uncharted series are great franchise really" your standards and my standards are different let's just end it at that if you think they are good games then more power to you man. another thing the guy the guy didn't say anything about horizon so why bring it up ??? and yes I own golden abyss on the vita but I have not played more than 1hr of it another bland uncharted game

Well, it is actually a great franchise in my opinion of course. Well, the reason why I bring Horizon Zero Dawn up. Because people mock at Sony Games and say their game is interactive movie which is very dumb. Can people say same thing to the upcoming PS4 game like Ghost of Tsushima like TLOU and say it’s interactive movie ? Yeah, if people said like that, I would say people are dumb.

You are not fanboy. But you have been downplaying Sony all the time. Sure, Sony isn’t perfect which I aware that of course. But why you don’t look other companies problem like MS lack of exclusive games and Nintendo have a problem with online ? Not say you should ignore, but rather you should look all the companies positive and negative, not focus one.

ONESHOTV22604d ago

UCForce---i dont look at MS becuase I dont own a box I do buy their games on PC but that doesnt give me a reason to worry about them, on the other hand, I own a PS4 pro and every PS console that came before it including all the handhelds as well so if you see me say some thing about sony it's becuase I know what they can do and this gen they have produced nothing that has gotten my attenion in the first party department I have zero interest in those linear copy and paste games they are releasing what I need from sony is for them to look at what they did last gen or the gen before that and improve on that I dont need them to stagnate with the same genres we need change if they coninute the same trends to the next gen then I wouldnt even look at the platform(PS5). another thing don't try to push the blame on another company come on us are all gamers and we need better this gen but I don't expect much from console gamers you guys don't speak up so the devs mindset that they are the boss and they have the last word and that's not good

Dark_Knightmare22604d ago

Alright I’m going to take your pictures as proof and believe their legit yours but for the third time I’m going to ask what other Sony games are like uncharted?

UCForce2604d ago (Edited 2604d ago )

It’s funny that you said that Single Player games is not that important. You downplay Sony again. “Copy and paste” Linear games. Really ? You sound like more objective than subjective. Not every PS games interested you, because it’s your opinion. Of course, you are going to explain why God Of War is so overrated and you say who praise the game are all biased. You going to say God Of War is The Last of Us clone which is more than that. You are gamer, but your opinion is poorly executed. “Sigh” it’s like you want people should follow your “fact” which is dumb. If there is no PS4 games interested you, then why you buy PS4 in first place ? You favor PC games over console gaming. Of course, you didn’t finish the article and jump all conclusions. Really ?

Edit:@super_cuddle Very immature.

ONESHOTV22604d ago

UCForce--- "If there are no PS4 games interested you, then why you buy PS4 in the first place " well for one if it wasn't for Sega I wouldn't have bought the PS4 in the first place I'm a big yakuza and persona fan and that was my sole reason to get a PS4 nothing else plus as I have said money isn't a problem for me.

UCForce2604d ago (Edited 2604d ago )

@ONESHOTV2 Yakuza and Persona are great series. I won’t argue about that. But still not good enough reason for you to buy PS4. You know Ghost of Tsushima make by Sucker Punch. The studio behind Sly Cooper and Infamous series. The reason i trust them because Sucker Punch have a strong reputation. Same with God Of War, I trust Cory Barlog because he was director God of War 2 on PS2. The reason I have a problem with you. You literally want PS4 to look miserable. Nothing more and nothing less. You want to force everyone to listen your “fact” which isn’t working. Don’t lie to me. You want PS4 to look miserable. PS4 is successful console, not a failure.

UCForce2604d ago (Edited 2604d ago )

I’m going to say this, you going to say the same thing to Ghost of Tsushima, right ? You know the game going to make by Sucker Punch. Sure, we haven’t see the gameplay of it. But I bet you are going to say like : “Ghost of Tsushima is TLOU/Uncharted clone, Sony games are so boring and their games are interactive movies”. If you said like that, that would be dumb and hypocrites statement from you.

Edit : @super_duddles Really ? Because your statement is very immaturely. You are, really are immature.

ONESHOTV22604d ago

UCForce--"you going to say the same thing to Ghost of Tsushima, right ?" I didn't know enough to judge the game let's wait and see what it does

j15reed2604d ago

@Oneshotv2 the formula is single player uncharted and last us like game with dark souls game play elements.

Christopher2604d ago

You have a really poor understanding of games if you attribute copy and paste due to games having a linear focused storyline. I mean, by that logic most games are copy and paste material of uncharted.

It's up to you to dislike games, but your reasoning seems like you find the easiest and laziest argument to dislike it and stick with it, even if it makes no sense.

I mean, calling uncharted an interactive movie is ridiculous to begin with. That would work for games like Detroit or Until Dawn where failure is part of the story. I don't know many movies that allow you freedom of gameplay choice, side elements, and the need to restart due to failure.

Just, honestly, a bad opinion. Perhaps you mean you don't like linear games, but then to associate an open world game with side objectives and a main story line to follow as being like uncharted, that's like saying assassin's creed is like uncharted.

ONESHOTV22604d ago

Christopher-------"Perhap s you mean you don't like linear games" no i never said i don't like linear game i said that I don't like the formula they are using in all of there games why can't we get the same quality games as we did last gen on the PS3 or even the gen before on the PS2 why are they just focus on this one genre and formula I know some people like those games but come on you have a diverse group of gamers why not try to cater to their needs as well. an example would be why do we only have one first party shooter this gen ?? I have heard the excuse that because third party devs are creating those game so there isn't any need for them but I find that to be a bull-st excuse why don't we have a new Killzone -resistance or even a new mag to name a few.

Christopher2604d ago

*** i don't like linear game i said that I don't like the formula they are using in all of there games***

TPS isn't a formula.

Uncharted, HZD, God of War, infamous are all completely different games. Let alone so are bloodborne, until dawn, dreams, ratchet & clank, and tons more.

***why do we only have one first party shooter this gen ??***

Because it's not what Sony is good at and third parties do much better at it. Why make a bad selling FPS when instead you can help publish (CoD, Destiny) and get deals with major third parties?

It sounds like you're interested in more FPS but are enjoying other exclusives that aren't fps. But the fact is that not everyone is going to be good at everything, but trying to boil down everything that Sony does provide as just 'copy paste' is just a bad and misguided opinion. It's why people are responding to you the way they are, because it's obvious you haven't played the games you bring up when you just consider them a copy paste.

The Days Gone Remaster Is an Unsurprising Cash-Grab and Nothing More

Honestly, who is the Days Gone remaster for? Fans of the original won't find anything new here.

Christopher48d ago

I don't know why you're being downvoted. It is a new thing in the remaster. Perhaps it's not worth the $10 upgrade if you've played. But, I mean, if you never played the game, then just wait for it to go on sale, forget about it, and continue not playing it like you did for the last 6 years?

TheEroica47d ago

The downvotes are likely from the excuses... Horde mode doesn't obsolve Sony from cash grabbing its easily duped fanbase.

S2Killinit47d ago

I love how people call this a money grab while the real money grabbing is in other genres. But, I think people who are that dumb deserve to be fed with skins and micro-transactions, and don’t get to complain that single player games of this caliber are few and far in between.

IAMRealHooman47d ago

@TheEroica
they changed the header. it was originally the " Remaster has nothing new" or something similar.

Christopher47d ago

It's still in the description: "Fans of the original won't find anything new here."

Days gone is amazing regardless and for those that didn’t play the original I highly recommend.

SimpleSlave48d ago (Edited 48d ago )

Yes. All of Sony's Remasters - all the ones stemming from the PS4 library - are cash-grabs. When all they needed to do was patch them to run at 60fps, up the resolution, and be done with it. But then they had to actually care about Bloodborne, and that's a cardinal sin over at Sony.

On a side note. I just got The Sinking City Remastered for free, because I owned the game. Weird...

anast48d ago

The Bloodborne thing is a real issue.

SimpleSlave48d ago

I'm sure they banish people to the Nightmare Frontier if they as much as whisper the name in the office.

Bebedora48d ago

Cash-grab or not. As long the Bend Studio gets their share, I am for it. I don't know, but I still hope for making of a second title. However, in a way It's a cash-grab. They still put something extra to it (horde mode), that is.

anast47d ago

lol Yeah they seem to hate the idea of a new Bloodborne anything.

I've still got to play the shrinking city. I enjoy Lovecraftian stuff.

RaidenBlack48d ago

Hope the recent remasters like Sinking City and Oblivion, ups the ante and alters the industry's approach.
But what fans really want is just a straight up sequel ... oh and add sequel to 1886 as well.

GhostScholar48d ago

I would love a days gone sequel. Days gone to me is such a better game than the last of us. The world in days gone was so great.

48d ago
mkis00747d ago (Edited 47d ago )

To me they appeal to different players outside of just being zombie games. I like them both, but days gone is more fun to me. The last of us 2 is my murder game though along with red dead 2 and gta 5. Love the realistic violence.

jznrpg47d ago

I’m a big fan of Days Gone but TLOU is a better made game. How much you enjoyed each game is of course up to you.

neutralgamer199247d ago

With the recent cancellation of Bend Studio’s live-service project, there’s now a real and exciting opportunity for the studio to revisit Days Gone 2. This might be the perfect time for Sony to greenlight the sequel—especially with the PS6 likely on the horizon—because Days Gone already has a strong foundation, a passionate fanbase, and significant untapped potential.

It’s worth remembering that Days Gone was Bend Studio’s first major AAA title developed for a home console. Before that, the studio had primarily worked on portable systems like the PSP and PS Vita, or acted as a support studio. That leap to a full-scale open-world console game was ambitious, and although the game launched in a somewhat rough state, that context is crucial to understanding its initial reception.

Gaming critics were often harsh in their reviews, frequently comparing Days Gone to other PlayStation exclusives that came from more seasoned console studios like Naughty Dog or Santa Monica Studio. Despite these comparisons and the early technical issues, Days Gone still went on to sell over 7.6 million copies—a remarkable achievement for a new IP. Even more importantly, Bend Studio listened to fan feedback and steadily improved the game through patches, updates, and optimizations. Today, Days Gone stands as a much more polished and enjoyable experience than it was at launch.

That kind of growth shows Bend Studio’s resilience and potential. A sequel would not only benefit from their hard-earned experience, but also avoid many of the pitfalls that affected the original’s development. Much of the foundational tech, gameplay systems, and world-building has already been done, meaning the studio can focus more on innovation and storytelling rather than reinventing the wheel.

Compared to the high-risk, long-development timeline of a new IP—which could take 5+ years just to get through pre-production—returning to Days Gone is both a smarter and more efficient route. If Sony and Bend Studio commit to Days Gone 2 now, there’s a strong possibility it could be a key PS6 launch title—offering a fan-driven, proven IP with greater polish, depth, and scope.

Let’s not forget Bend Studio’s deep legacy either. This is the same team that brought us Syphon Filter, a series that helped define early PlayStation experiences. With the right support and direction, they can absolutely deliver a worthy sequel that lives up to the franchise’s potential and the studio’s legacy

Days Gone PS5 Is a 'Really Good Piece of Work', Say Tech Experts

Sammy writes: "Back when Days Gone Remastered was announced, many fans were squinting to see the differences between the excellent original PS4 version and its PS5 re-release.

But now with the game readily available – and our 8/10 review declaring it the “definitive version of a fan favourite” – we’re beginning to get some meaningful tech analysis.

And according to Digital Foundry, this is not just the bare-bones resolution upscale some had anticipated – “a lot of effort has gone into it”, according to the tech experts. "

First game sell well enough to warrant a sequel? Our received well enough?

Alos8862d ago

It sold well but reviewed only okay, which apparently wasn't enough for Sony.

Cacabunga62d ago

Sold well and received even better.. had a bad first month due to technical issues but ended up being one of the best games from last gen

Knightofelemia61d ago (Edited 61d ago )

That's the nature of the beast. If a game like a movie does not meet certain numbers then they write off the franchise. EA scrapped DS2 because the DS1 remake did not meet certain numbers. I was hoping the remaster of DG and the fact it also came to PC would convince Sony to green light a DG sequel.

PanicMechanic61d ago

Critic reviews were appalling. The worst reviewed game I’ve ever seen. By that I mean, poor quality journalism, dishonest writing and review scores which are out of touch with fan reception.

Huge difference i must admit, but not sure i would notice without 2 screens next to each other.

Not getting this game still, i want a new game and im tired of remasters

It’s $10 and there are plenty of games out there for you.

Flewid63866d ago

Then its not a huge difference?

Killer2020UK66d ago

Of course you wouldn't, nobody would. If you have never experienced the other, then you don't have the reference needed for comparison.

TheEroica66d ago

Sony getting ready to milk some more people on dumb products.... I can see the psvr1 and 2 owner salivating over days gone remaster. Lol. What a ruse song is pulling.

Knushwood Butt66d ago

How can Sony milk customers if it's such a 'dumb product'? If it's so dumb, nobody will buy it, and there's no milking.
Plus, there's nothing preventing people from getting a copy of the PS4 version.

66d ago
Babadook766d ago

As a PSVR2 owner. Yup. If there’s a VR version I would be there day one.

Greg280166d ago

There are plenty of people who never had a chance to play this game, now they can with the remaster.

Don't understand why people who already played the game complain about a remaster. No one is forcing you to buy it. There are plenty of new games to play

MoonConquistador52d ago

And then there's a group of people who did play the game, thought it was awesome and would be happy giving it another play through.

Unfortunately I'm one who only got it on the PS5 instant game collection so no path for a 10 quid upgrade for me.

Bathyj67d ago

This game got scored before it was released.

andy8567d ago

Days gone is 85+. It got heavily marked down at launch for bugs where as others get a free pass for that. It's a fantastic game.

MoonConquistador52d ago

One of my favourites actually, I thought it was fantastic from beginning to end.

Kosic66d ago

And it's not even a big overhaul remaster. It's list turning up the graphic level by one. It's quite embarrassing, as the original wasn't that bad. And the remaster isn't that noticeable

PanicMechanic66d ago

I spoiled myself by modding this game on my PC. Genuinely one of the best looking games I've ever seen. Whilst this remaster looks nice it just doesn't compare to that sadly. It shows the effort that these remasters could put in if they wanted

REDGUM67d ago

I so hope this game or DLC for those of us who own the original sells well.
Ive said it before, its an underrated game for sure & was unfairly judged upon release.
Please try this game if you haven't already.

For those who say 'i won't purchase digital only' you can pickup a hard copy for 5 bucks here in Australia, then add the DLC and you have a superb game for $20 or so.

Give it a shot, tell me I'm wrong After completing the game.

Game on gamers.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH66d ago

It was full of bugs at release I wouldn’t call that being unfairly judged. If you want your game to score well then release it in a completed state. Now with that being said I think the game was pretty good.

Knushwood Butt66d ago

It really wasn't.
The worst I encountered was a horde spawning on top of me when exploring a cave.
Did you even play this at launch?

S2Killinit66d ago (Edited 66d ago )

It wasnt full of buggs, it was very playable. That was the excuse for the hit job at launch before people started to speak up about how great the game was.
