Sort of disappointed that this is a prequel....

chrisx2587d ago (Edited 2587d ago )

I understand what you mean, knowing how John's story will eventually end is just sad. it is what it is I'm just glad this game exists, red dead redemption was a masterpiece

Alexious2587d ago

Well, this is not John's story but Arthur's story. Also, Rockstar said it will provide more context for past events shown in the first game.

MWH2587d ago

My thoughts as well. I don't like prequels that you already know the end like for example MGS, It just presents no purpose to me other than being a filler.

In RDR2 however, we play a different character who cross roads with other characters we know, this could work, we will see.

But still, i prefer to play a clean slate story or a proper sequel.

-Foxtrot2587d ago

It's disappointing....BUT it does not mean the game is going to be bad, I know you didn't say that but most people with a game as hyped as this along with the fact that it's a respected studio such as Rockstar, well people will take things like that as an "attack" on the game. Just saying incase.

Anyway yeah...still don't know why they couldn't just feature a brand new gang with a mission or two with the Van der Linde gang.

The stakes can never be high when you know what will happen to Dutch and his gang, the only people who's fate is left a mystery are Arthur and Sadie. The whole point of this game going off the trailers is Dutch trying to preserve the Wild West ideals and the cowboys/outlaw ways while fighting against the world to keep that dream alive...well we all know what happens in the end don't we. He starts going loopy, the gang disbands and he goes out of control as his ideals are crushed by the ever changing world then John kills him. So really whatever he says and whatever happens to characters like John, Bill, Javier like missions where they are kidnapped, on the run, need saving we know they aren't going anywhere. Imagine Red Dead Redemption but lets say Johns death was spoilt in Red Dead Revolver...wouldn't have been as emotional in the end would it?

The game will probably be great regardless, lets just hope John isn't in it as much and the story revolving around Arthur puts him out of the gangs circle in the end so more things are left unknown. I honestly would like to see them go against Arthur and Sadie in the end, who knows maybe the people in the gang that aren't Bill, Jaiver, Abbi and John they end up killing.

MWH2587d ago

If i to predict a twist, in the end John will kill Arthur.

OB1Biker2587d ago (Edited 2587d ago )

', the only people who's fate is left a mystery are Arthur and Sadie. The whole point of this game going off the trailers is Dutch trying to preserve the Wild West ideals and the cowboys/outlaw ways '
Nope
What you state being the whole point is actually just the setting. Arthur s story and the way you influence his actions on this journey is the whole point. Its about the life in the gang but his point of view is what matters.

Kabaneri2587d ago

RDR took place in 1917, the last days of the classic West. It had to be a prequel.

smolinsk2587d ago

Red dead 1 took place in 1911.

Kabaneri2587d ago

@smolinsk
My point still stands.

Andy_Dee2587d ago

Prequel or not, it is the game we need!! :D

adonisisfree2587d ago

Agreed, they could of created a story around his son. Maybe this game is setting up Jack's story in some way. Maybe Jack is born durning the time period of red dead 2. Imagine read dead 3 in modern times

Lennoxb632587d ago

Red Dead in modern times is just Max Payne

SharpCT2587d ago

I’m just glad the game starts in the late 1800s and not another 1910 western story

I thought they would have done a DLC telling an alternative story like the Outlaw Josey Wales

Government come early for John
He’s away at Bonnies ranch
His family won’t give him up
Government kill them
John returns to see his house in flames
Decides to round up everyone he helped
Kills the Government employees
Lives his life as an Outlaw with Bonnie

You could afford video games if you stopped commenting asinine comments here and got a job instead of stealing.

People have cellphones. They can work and squeeze in the 15 seconds to post a comment.

OtterX16d ago

Good sign that the PS5/XBSX version is coming soon at least.

neutralgamer199216d ago

Buy them when they are on sale. We just shouldn't be surprised anymore by prices hikes and or new games costing more. Simply speak with your wallets if you want these companies to pay attention. That's the only language they understand

raWfodog15d ago

The vast majority of the games that I buy are never at retail, always on sale. And usually it'll have to be a good sale too. At least 40% off. All this talk of increasing game prices rolls off my back.

neutralgamer199215d ago

same i like to pay $25-30 at most and even than closer to $25

Wh1teLightning16d ago

I don’t live in the UK and this makes no sense whatsoever. These games have been out for years shouldn’t they be going down?!? That’s not how you attract new players.

The_Blue15d ago

They don’t care about us. It’s the newer generation they are after.

QuantumMechanic15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

I think this is a very apt statement. Game publishers appear increasingly to view their IP like books, music, and cinema---evergreen content that can be reprinted throughout its lifespan (until it enters the public domain). It's actually very reasonable.

CrimsonWing6916d ago

So this is how it works now? Old games get a price increase? This sh*t is completely getting out of hand now.

If Red Dead Redemption 2 doesn't have Red Dead Online on Switch 2, keep it

Red Dead Redemption 2 could be excellent on Nintendo Switch 2, but it's pointless without bringing Red Dead Online along for the ride.

Not just RDR Online, but also cross save progress. I'm not starting over w my nearly 200 hours of the online. I will however consider picking it up again if I can have a purely portable version of it.

OtterX17d ago

Lol, people really don't want me to continue my enjoyment of the online I see. 🤷‍♂️

I find it relaxing, living off the land, hunting/fishing. I'd legit play it again portable if I had it available in continuation of my progress. Not asking for others to enjoy it too.

tagzskie15d ago

legit question, is steam deck not supporting rdr online? because portable gaming is years old in pc community

OtterX15d ago

@tagzskie I don't own a Steam Deck. I have a Switch 2 ordered. Easy answer.

mkis00717d ago

What a hot take!!! Cut off your nose to spite your face much?

victorMaje17d ago

Can we get a 60 fps patch on ps5 already or is it too much to ask?
