This is around the time when the Wii brand began losing steam

it was kinda depressing on how Nintendo just dropped the Wii and stopped production just like that back then and put all their eggs on the Wii U. It was a strange decision because they weren't ready for their own Wii U games by then and the Wii U was left with no notable release for over a year. if only they supported the Wii U from the beginning like how they do the Switch, the Wii U wouldn't have perished the way it did. Remastered Wii games would be better improvements than Wii U remasters on Switch too.

When Kinect and Move came out Wii became less appealing in the growing HD market. It’s not like Nintendo could’ve supported the SD console longer when it’s main selling point could also be done on its HD competition that dropped dramatically in price.

Plus Nintendo had to adjust to HD development so had they waited longer it would’ve just negatively impacted them even more.

Wii had a more dignified ending than Wii U which Nintendo really wanted to just bury. Switch had a great first year because Wii U was abandoned so they could just put many titles over to NS to pad out the first year lineup. Had Wii U been more successful Switch’s first year wouldn’t have been as remarkable.

Is it just me or is this pointless. Comparing the PS4 to the Wii. Seriously?

Forgive me for pointing out the obvious here, but - wouldn't it make more sense to compare the PS4 to the PS2? Or better yet to compare the Switch to the Wii? This just seems arbitrary and unnecessary.

Man, I feel as if I just wasted 3 minutes of my life...

1.) It is interesting to compare the best selling console of this gen and last gen, especially to see how Wii’s falling sales compare to PS4’s stable sales at this timeframe.

2.) VGC didn’t start collecting sales data in a timeframe until the 7th gen.

3.) They do compare Switch & Wii sales. They did so last week.

Sony's console is the place people play their MP games with friends, PS4 has also had a much better and more consistent stream of software. The Wii was never going to keep the momentum, where as the PS4 like the PS2 has the ingredients to break 100m units.

So yeah it absolutely is interesting to compare them, not sure what Mike's on about.

Are you saying you haven't come across not a single PS4 v PS2 comparison over the last 4 1/2 years? They've compared it to every successful console produced. My condolences for your 3 minutes though. Sorry for your loss.

yellowgerbil2181d ago

They not only have compared them they continue to EVERY month

Coz the Wii was marketed as a fitness machine not a gaming machine

kevnb2181d ago (Edited 2181d ago )

Vgchartz isn’t accurate enough to take this seriously. Either system might have had way more or way less sales.

Sony just released their numbers and Nintendo released Wii numbers pretty frequently so they should be pretty accurate. Xbox One numbers are the ones we wouldn't be able to trust since we haven't gotten official numbers for awhile.

Just a matter o time now before Ps4 crushes Wii.

ILostMyMind2181d ago

Damn, Wii was really a best on its time. And I hated.

PowerOfTheCloud2181d ago

For me it was a waste of money.

badz1492181d ago

only if you wasted money on it. did you?

PowerOfTheCloud2180d ago (Edited 2180d ago )

Yes i bought it and almost never really used it, before i sold it again. I had much more fun with my wiiU which i still use from time to time.

mcstorm2181d ago

I never hated it it had some amazing games but the success was with families before tablets started the trend for gaming. That said it shows how well Nintendo did with the Wii considering both the Xbox 360 and PS3 sold very well this gen the PS4 had nothing but an easy right with the Xbox one and wiiu not selling very well compared to the gen before.

What will now be interesting is to see if Sony can keep up the sales numbers or will they start to fall off like the Wiis did not the switch and X are out.
