Why Assassins Creed: Black Flag is Still the Best Assassin's Creed Game

Alex Hamilton from GameGrin writes, "If you go back to 2007, it might have been difficult to see Assassin’s Creed becoming a generation-hopping, globally-popular franchise. When it was a new IP, fresh from the minds of Patrice Désilets and Maxime Béland at Ubisoft Montreal, it was received warmly, if not rapturously, by the games press. Yet the studio knew it was onto something, and returned, two years later, with a sequel that blew its predecessor out of the water."

Haven't played an assassins creed yet, downloaded the 1st one last night which is xbox one x enhanced. Will hopefully work my way through the franchise.

The first one is one of the most boring games ever. Start with 2, which is great. Black Flag is my top 2 AC game with Origins being the other.

If you like 2 you should like all other AC games not named IV, Rogue or Origins as those are completely different in terms of how you traverse the environment

The first one is the only one where climbing towers is a puzzle though. There was only one way to get to the top. Now you can climb everywhere and it is too easy.

So the least assassin type game is the best one? Loool no. Assassins Creed 2 is the best creed game.

By far, although I do like the the final boss in donkey Kong country and can still hear the song in my head like I played it yesterday

Fantastic game all-around and the best pirate game I've played. Loved sailing on the ocean and hearing the pirate shanties too.

Great article.
I have to agree, it was the top point in the series. My favorite AC and my favorite pirate game.

I also agree with the bit about Skull and Bones being a shoddy spiritual successor... It seems like an afterthought since you can't get off the ship. You don't play as a pirate which is a big disappointment, which leaves this seeming like a ship simulator rather than a proper pirate game. Ubisoft would do better to create an open world pirate game and drop the AC elements. A new pirate IP with similar mechanics.
