Why Insomniac is the right developer for Spider-Man

Let’s be honest: we all want a good Spider-Man game and it’s been a while since we had one. Now all eyes are on Insomniac’s iteration of our favourite web-slinger. As we get closer to the release date we discuss why this dream project is in safe hands.

Because they're good developers. Personally, I wanted Sucker Punch but Insomnia is great as well.

porkChop2625d ago

Yeah I was surprised it wasn't from Sucker Punch, but it looks great.

I love Sucker Punch but I personally think Insomniac are better suited to making Spider-Man. They make fun games that just feel really good (slick, arcadey) which works out pretty good for the web-slinging. Their games have addictive gameplay loops as well (R&C raritanium, upgrading weapons, gadgets, etc). There's a lot of focus on humour as well and keeping things colourful. I actually can't think of a studio better suited to making a Spider-Man game.

Initially I did too, but this works perfect because now we get this and Ghost of Tsushima.

Spider-Man is in good hands with this game, especially after seeing the videos of how traversal works. That's always make it or break it with Spider-Man games and it looks like they nailed it.

Personally, I'm far happier it's Insomniac. They're much more fun and creative and good with humour, given their games like Ratchet and Clank and Sunset Overdrive. I love Sucker Punch and Infamous, but the biggest disappointment for me with that series is that the open worlds were fairly shallow and not very interactive. I have no doubt Sucker Punch would have nailed the traversal and done well with the combat, but seeing the vibrant popping colours of this world, and hearing about little quirks like Spidey taking selfies at the top of buildings and high-fiving fans, and watching him use creative web gadgetry mid-combat is exactly the kind of little touches I wanted in the Spider-Man game.

I'm far happier with Sucker Punch directing their talents towards a new IP like Ghost of Tsushima.

I was convinced it was going to be SP.

Then pleasantly surprised it was Insomniac. Judging by what I'm seeing Insomniac was a perfect choice.

I'm sure either company would have been fantastic.

No no sucker punch is good but I think they hit a plateau in what the team can do in terms of open world gameplay. Don't get me wrong I highly enjoyed all the infamous games but really they all were too similar

subtenko2624d ago

Sometimes I mixed these two devs up :/

Sucker punch did infamous and insomniac did resistance, spyro, etc. I know that but I get the studio names intertwined somehow

sampsonon2624d ago (Edited 2624d ago )

same here but if they had done it we wouldn't Have two great looking games to look forward to in Ghost Of Tsushima and Spider Man.

Dragonscale2624d ago

Yeah but SP are making Ghost of Tsushima which also looks awesome. Insomniac will have to do, never mind lol.

Really for me, it was between sucker punch and insomniac. Both are amazing at traversal and fast movement mechanics.

Wonder how it Feels to hold back info about a game you created last year but can't publicly announce anything until the appointed time. I'm sure New R&C is in development almost done but can't announce it until the appointed time in November 2018-19

Dang that sucks.

everyones puckered up around here
