Pocket Gamer: Subbuteo DS Review

Pocket Gamer writes: "Updating a hallowed classic is fraught with difficulty. Casino Royale, Dr Who and (some of) the Lego games have been exceptional successes, but everyone would agree that New Kids on the Block, the birch and Carlton Palmer are best left in the dustbin of history. Subbuteo DS, sadly, falls squarely into the second category.

Subbuteo does, at least, try and offer something different. It could have been a cheap excuse to repackage a bog standard football title. But while the production values are very much 'lo-fi', in terms of mechanics there's plenty of thought in evidence."

GamesWeasel: Subbuteo Review

To sum up GamesWeasel would say that to genuine Subbuteo fans this could be a fun game to buy; it's fairly accurate to the physical game and does at least provide a CPU to play against…perhaps you could even learn new techniques from. The downside for non Subbuteo lovers is that this game doesn't bridge the gap; if you hate Subbuteo in real life you'll hate it here.

Subbuteo Announced for DS and Screens

505 Games today announced that Subbuteo, a classic table football game developed by ARTEMATICA for Nintendo DS, will arrive in EU stores in September 2008. Gamers interact with the game using the stylus on the lower screen to set the player position, defend, attack, pass and shoot, with full control over ball. Using the finger-flick icon on the screen, the player can choose the angle and power of the kick just like the real thing. The upper screen gives real time feedback on all the match action with fouls, goals and even those all-important aerobatic shots.
