History Repeating Itself Atari Shows Non-Working Prototype at Trade Show

Carl Williams writes, "Atari is still pushing forward to launch the newly renamed Atari Box as the Atari VCS console. There are some warning signs to watch for though."

That just spells automatic failure right there. No console in this era can hope to succeed when it needs Kickstarter to come to fruition.

Exactly. Plus, even though this is not the Atari of old, it is still a company that is valued around $20 million by most reports. While not a lot, it is certainly more financial oomph than they are going to get from a crowdfunding campaign.

This is going to be Ouya 2 solely due to the fact that people are too dumb to realize this isn't competing with PS4 and Xbox One.

You know, in all fairness and logic this thing could turn out to be more successful than XBOX One. Wouldn't that be something...

I hope it's at least as powerful as a Switch.

Id be for it if it spanned the whole breadth of Atari from pong to jaguar.

I've not been following it so I dont know if it will at some point but that single button controller makes me think 2600 only. The other controller gives me hope though.

The entire production is a long-shot, though. Didn't like that bit where the journalist asked the Atari representative if it will compare to a Steam Machine. He replied that it's not going to be that ambitious....😞

it will not even scratch the switch... and that‘s really saying something. kickstarter is full of brainfarts. and this is one of it.

Unless it pairs with Steam or Blizzard or one of the fun ones like Humble Bundle or Bundle Stars its hard to believe this will go any further than a good thought. I suppose they couldn't go portable with the excellent but disasterous LYNX still in the minds of us oldies. Mind you Ninty did have the Virtual Boy and still somehow came out the other side o it.

I’d be lying if I said I still wasn’t at least curious about this thing. Pretty dumb that Atari wants to launch it soon and has yet to even show it in action, let alone even give us a general idea of its games library.
