Straight from El Jobso's mouth at today's notebook keynote: "Blu-ray is just a bag of hurt. It's great to watch the movies, but the licensing of the tech is so complex, we're waiting till things settle down and Blu-ray takes off in the marketplace."
For your company that pushes the digital download format :)
Or i'll have to call you 'Steve'Blow'Jobs'!!! ;-D
The bluray boat has already taken off, Steve. Sales are rising, and in some instances, it has beaten its Standard Def sister (Incredible Hulk, 300?). LOTR and Dark Knight hasnt even been released yet. Now is the perfect time to jump onboard.
Sony vs Apple and Microsoft, Sony will be beat down like a retarded blind boxer with a hearing problem.
Sony & bluray are doing just fine, both bluray & PS3 sales surpass DVD & PS2 corresponding sales. it's cute to see xb!tches worried like that :) what about those TooHuman sales? BWAAAAAAAAAAA HA HA HA HA!!!
link that or crawl back under your rock before the sun sets your skin on fire do to living in a cave.
Crap follows. just kill your self already. APPLE/SONY>>>>> ; Copy Machine a.k.a Microsoft
http://www.videobusiness.co... http://gear.ign.com/article... http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunc... Ps3 is just a little behind PS2 but still, ahead of 360... XDDDD and that's pre LBP, pre R2, pre KZ2, pre all JRPGs, pre Home, pre GT5... I accept your apologies, now asta la vista baby, I've got some games to play! :)
Awww poor guy, went to look for those fanboy links just to come back and be wrong. PS2 sold 16 million its 2nd year and 18 million it's 3rd <--- that is pure fact, now stop lieing to yourself.
vgcharts is well known for its pro sony bias: lololol you xb!tches are fonny! XDDDD
Bag of hurt all over his candy ass
Okay, now that was funny, I don't care who you are.
Funny enough, Apple are a board member of the BDA.
lol. Sony runs that sh!t! Apple can't even license blu-ray. lol
Your wife is a Bag of Hurt
What Jobs is saying is that Blu-Ray is great and all, as they already support it in some of their Macs, but it is a 'bag of hurt' for them, due to the licensing complexity and whatnot. Basically he is saying its good and convenient to have but too hard for them to implement into their laptops just yet. Don't be such a fanboy..
he's right, but not for the reason he states. its not practical to have a blueray drive in a laptop for the simple reason it requires a lot of power. Stevie boy still sucks a fat one though.
Steve Jobs is just another person trying to downplay blu-ray to further with digital distribution.
Yeah..Apple TV is WAY better /end sarcasm
by a "bag of hurt" he meant that its complicated to get the licenses...if u read on you would have caught that =p http://n4g.com/NewsPending-... within that story is wat he said in full, and while u r at it approve it =D
we just won a new dell laptop w/br and it works great batterie lifes about the same as our non b/r toshiba laptop. Looks great using the hdmi out...
Don't like to pay royalties apple? lol they are acting like MS! Swallow your pride and just bite the bullet for G** Sake! Remember how long it took for you guys to stop designing your own computer archetecture? Eventually you guys did and started incorporating Intel chips! That wasn't so bad now was it?
Companies less profitable, with less clout, and smaller size, are able to put bluray drives in their machines just fine. He's just angling for some concessions. You telling me Acer can do it, but Apple can't?
Deeznuts, Your first sentence is the answer to your second sentence. Those companies are less profitable for a reason.
"Steve Jobs is just another person trying to downplay blu-ray to further with digital distribution." Bingo!!! If you read the whole piece, wou will see that all he's really trying to do is put down Bluray to put up his own ITunes. Its a biased opinion, just like he is trying to sell his own display standard over HDMI
Right now I'm waiting for the pain update to download, it's only 325MB and it's taking forever and it looks like I won't even get to play it tonight. I have hi-speed too. Digital downloads is a distant future...
I have no idea why downloads to the PS3 take forever, but it isn't the internets fault. My Pain update took forever too. It's so bizarre how PS3 downloads take so much longer than Xbox 360 downloads. Something Sony does makes it so downloads crawl at a snails pace. To the rest of you with reading comprehension issues, Mr. Jobs is praising Blu-Ray, he is just pointing out it is still difficult to license for now so they are waiting until it is more common place and easier to do. -Death
Looks like King of sticks rides the short bus to school! Read before you comment little buddy! Blu-ray will get it's major boost when HDTV's are very cheap and the cost of the players and movies are lower. Regular DVD's didn't get the boost they needed until this same criteria was met, and I assume the same applies to this situation. Only difference is, now people will have to upgrade their TV's to notice the true brilliance that resides in the blu-ray format. Bestbuy is doing an exceptional job of pointing out what blu-ray offers over regular DVD, and other stores are copying their example. But like everything else in this economy... Price is everything! People want these flashy new gadgets, but don't want to take the risk at this point in time until they see how things change.
bluray has been taking over for a while now. Tvs are gonna start coming out with built in bluray players soon.
that after he made the comment that the iPhone will be the next revolution in handheld gaming people pointed at him and laughed.
lol that was quite funny, iPhone sucks BTW. Anyone who has an iPhone is a tool.
Cuz bluray doesnt use anything from microsoft... Java, right?
well i think his mp3 players and phone are a bag of crap, releasing a new ipod every 10 minutes before you even have a chance to actually fill one ipod up, yea real bag of hurt moron. stay with your damn mp3 players Steve.
Java is actually made and owned by Sun Microsystems and has nothing to do with Microsoft.
Complaining about "licensing of the bluray is so complex" yet they came up with the most insane DRM with iTunes, and still claim: "We have the best HD movie and TV options in iTunes." Complaining about HDMI when every HDTV in the world support this standard, when every modern projector support this standard and claiming DisplayPort is the best when none of those devices support it yet. Sure it's the greatest thing to connect a monitor, but both can live together, and will for a long time. Don't bash one, enjoy both, but sure enough, this guy thinks one USB connector on a macbook is plenty, no way he would put two great connectors on a single machine. Dang, this guy used to be so good. They really have to pull him out of the front row now, because he's no longer helping promoting Apple.
That's exactly what I was going to say. And not being able to take the songs that I paid money for ANYWHERE but Itunes is not a big bag of hurt?
That is so true about Itunes, that why i was a pirate for the longest time. Rhahapsody is a good sub, but unfortunately Itunes still has more music.
You can easily convert the mp3s into drm free mp3s. Instead of always stealing Music, just effing steal a file converter. It will save you much more time than searching for a real torrent everytime you want a cd. Its piracy that forces drm. Not the other way around. Only a delusional prick would think that.
lol. Sony runs the blu-ray board. Apple can't even license blu-ray and they're on the board. lol
Exactly. How is he having licensing issues when Apple is on the board and he's Steve Jobs. No one is gonna tell the guy or his company "No" to anything.
You guys need to do more learning.
I have a feeling they will add it in future products, hopefully in a new revised iMac.
the thing is BLu-ray is going to take off by the end of this year. Blu-ray domination was delayed because of the format war which ended 6 months ago. what he's waiting for is for the format to get cheaper, which it will soon by the end of this year.
It will happen eventually, but not yet. His claim about iTunes being awesome for HD video shows how dillusional he is cause iTunes library for HD stuff is pretty weak and pathetic and don't even get me started on Apple TV. There are very few things that Apple does wrong, but those two are definitely the biggest. He definitely wants digital distribution to take off and is hoping that his iTunes will do it for him, but it's inevitable that they will do it. Apple has close ties with Pixar (for obvious reasons) and Disney and those companies will eventually pressure them into doing it seeing as how they both heavily back Blu-Ray.
Apple have a long tradition of keeping Apple stuff proprietary. They don't like Blu-Ray because they don't control it - the market does.
bluray isn't The Standard Format. Just because you own a PS3 doesn't mean everyone is going to. If McDonalds comes out with a super great NEW hamburger topping are you going to completely forget about Ketchup? No. Is every restaurant going to switch to the Super sauce? No. Sony is too far ahead of itself. You can't expect everyone else to "take their word for it". If the PS3 wasn't a bluray player would you buy a seperate bluray player? I wouldn't. The online HD stores on PS3 and 360 would suffice.
Id tend to agree. Blu-Ray is an ideal format for movies or games but from a PC standpoint, it's not really that viable currently. Discs are seriously expensive, BR burners still burn a whole in your pocket and honestly, when was the last time you needed to burn 25+gb of data onto a disc. Id wager never. Give it a few years, when I can buy a blank BR disc for reasonable prices and if and when file sizes become so large, BR will become the norm in the PCs. But right now, my BR drive in my PC does noting but the usual work of a DVD drive except when I use it for movies. But Id be surprised to not see Apple support it from an OS standpoint rather soon. Year maybe. They probably are a little worried to drive any attention away from their movie downloads/itunes.
DVD burners were expensive in the first 3 years. now go to a store and see how much they cost now. they will eventually go BD.
I agree with that too regarding the PC, but basically he said "Blu-ray sucks, buy my stuff. ITunes is better at HD and DisplayPort is better than HDMI"...I mean come on lol, but I guess you can't blame him for promoting his stuff. His alternatives to Blu-ray are in an even bigger hurt in my opinion. He would say the same thing if it was HD-DVD, but basically discs and digital distribution are going to co-exist for a long time.
I actually need to backup 26 gig of data and increasing weekly. GIS data are a pain in the ass huge.
Did any one read the full article? he says he's having problems licensing and could you imange the battery Draining it would do with the current macbooks i think the avg macbook gets about 3hrs of DVD playback out of so im sure with blu ray that would be way less so apple needs to work on Devoloping a better battery as well
I though Macs had a pretty good battery life for their laptops, a lot better than most PC laptops out there...
my notebook gets 2hrs 45mins with wifi on and DVD playing. If you use your power management you can tailor your needs and set things to cut off, but the most you'll gain out of todays notebooks is maybe 30mins more. people who have higher end gpus should keep the clocks low, as they are so specialized that even at low clocks you'll get superb desktop performance. look up "overclocking" and then just do the opposite.
i cant help but lol every time i hear someone call steve jobs "EL JOBSO". blu ray isnt taking off as fast as ppl thought it would but its getting there customers just need to be better educated about this format and also a reduced price on blu ray disk wont hurt either.
his bottom line is we cant make a big profit using it YET
I hate Sony, and I hate Apple...but whom do I hate more?! I don't know who to root for. I'll root for Jenkem.
Well it would've "hurt" him more if it was HDDVDead. I guess Jobs will take licensing complexity of blu-ray over paying Microsoft/Toshiba for every hddvd drive put in Macs.
paperfone calls Steve Jobs "a bag of sh*t"
With Blu-ray and HDMI output. That's it. Oh, and put one in the Cinema Displays as well.
Blu-Ray will go down in tech history as the most inflated, gimmicky, overpriced and incomplete format of all time. It was created out of greed. Blu-Ray is the achiles heel of Sony. And if anything brings down Sony it will be Blu-ray. Dont believe the hype people. But if you disagree please feel free to buy as many Blu-ray disc as you can in the next 10 months please.
is it opposite day or something? Blu-Ray was created out of the need to push technology It's making Sony bucketloads of cash it's probably the most complete and future-proof format ever created... so in conclusion, it think it's opposite day in REDZEV land
You & Jason 360 need to go back to screwing your sisters. Jealousy kills like smoking does & stop smoking crack. Seems like both of you are sharing the same rock. Just go away
As a web developer, I store a quite a lot of data. In addition to having external hard drives, I have disks all over the place. I have a Blu-Ray burner on my current PC and I literally condensed a huge stack of CD's and DVD backups to about 3 50gb Blu-Ray disks. Seeing as how Apple has a huge audience of web developers, outside of movies Blu-Ray has huge advantages for storage. They target the multimedia market, which typically has a lot of stuff to save, so it would make a lot of sense for them to have Blu-Ray. They just don't want to do it.
They have bluray compatability. Buy an external drive. Not everyone that owns a mac is a web developer.
DigiDownloads are the future. Period. And with technology increasing exponentially every 6 months, Blu-ay will be sub-par in a year. Not interested in debating the fact. Why? Because its a FACT. There is no changing it, avoiding it, or disproving it. We have Digital Streams that can match the glory of "Blu-Gay". CNET has a lot of articles about the quality of cable and satellite companie's HD streams vs. Blu-Ray. And you know what? Although the numbers suggest Blu-Ray is 5% sharper, they cant tell the difference. Sure Apple Users are a bunch of stuck-up, art school dropouts with WAY OVER-PRICED(and WAY UNDERPOWERED) computers---but the products are getting better, and Steve Jobs knows a thing or two about revolutionizing the industry. Believe me, if Blu-Ray mattered, it would be there. It could also be the fact that he has bigger plans for the already successful, APPLE TV. Damn, its like no body thinks anymore. Lol.
"Digital Downloads are the future" Yes, we've been torrenting since 2003 (if not earlier), so thank you for stating the past as future. But the funniest part in your post is where you quote CNET and use that as evidence. I assume you were referring to Don Reisinger's (repeatedly debunked) articles? 5% sharper?? What, on a 30 inch SDTV?? Try 50%. It's really simple arithmetics. Calculating the size of a 2D plane that's defined clearly with horizontal and vertical pixel counts. If that's too much for you, you need to go back to studying middle-school math.
And why you claim Mac Pros are "way underpowered" is beyond me. The architecture of those suckers is incredible. Blu-ray is relevant because it's currently the largest disc-based storage solution, the only HD movie format on the market, and set to overthrow DVD within the next few years. If you have a decent LCD display for your computer, watching DVDs is a little off-putting due to the Standard Definition quality. Blu-ray is in high demand all across the board.
Yeah Math. About that. You should know that the TV actually has NOTHING to do with it. Its all about bitrate. As many times as you'd like to argue that its not---guess what, it is. You can get the biggest, most hi-res monitor/tv out there and watch standard def videos on it, but that doesn't make them better. its the video's bitrate(encoding) that matters. you only need to make sure you have a TV that can handle it encoding---thats where size and resolution are important. get a grip, genius. and the architecture of Macs, is totally great. take that and combine it with RIDICULOUS prices and 80% incompatibility with modern tech, and what do you get? a Ferrari that you can only drive on 10% percent of your roads. sorry bud. Macs = a fraternity of art school dropouts, coffee house poets, and aspiring musicians who will climax their careers playing crowds of 20-30 people on a good night. Im not saying Apple TV is the future, but Apple has an insanely loyal(although ignorant) fanbase. If Steve Jobs says Apple Tv is better than Blu-Ray, then they will believe and buy. I dont think its all that Great--I know for a fact that DishHD is amazing--thats the only one thats too close to call when it comes to a Blu-Ray comparison. And yes, you have to be pretty young to tell me you started torrenting in 2003, what are you, 18, 19? Yeah its been going on for a while, but you have to remember that 99% of downloads made everyday are ILLEGAL downloads. Not to sound like Dudley Do-Right, but I think the goal of DigiDownloads is to bring LEGAL downloading into the mainstream---and its getting there. Think about it, how many more people would download things if torrents were "illegal"??? EDIT: Thanks Neito, these clowns dont understand. And they'd be surprised about how much I know about Macs.
