It may a look a little basic compared to recent titles, but when it comes to gameplay Burnout Paradise still thrashes the competition. The racing is sublime, the stunts are spectacular, and there’s always something to do round the next corner. It has one of the best soundtracks of any game – and yes that includes Avril – it’s just a shame that some of the mechanics are dated and clunky.
Racing games have become so modernized -- but that's not entirely a good thing.
In my opinion, Burnout 3 is much better than Burnout Paradise.
The need for speed games are decent, but they focus so much on story that they are a bit of a turn off. I genuinely prefer just picking the race from menus and moving on to the next race event through there. Also the focus on open world for racing games is a bit overplayed. I have to drive to the next event? Lame. It’s okay to have an open world mode, but a menu base career mode without story is preferable to me.
I hate open world racing games. I love learning the track which is almost impossible in an open world city.
NFS used to be fun now all open world racing. Used to be able select your cars and tracks. Now you drive through a town to get to the race what kind of Crap is that?? Open World is overwhelming. I'm at the point if I want to play NFS it'll be closed circuit old skool NFS PS2 era
Criterion is ruining my favorite racing game.
Midnight club, Project Gotham racing and burnout were peak racing games for me. All arcade racers but at very different levels.
People need to differentiate between Racing games and Driving games. If you just want to race, don't choose an open world game. If you just want to drive around an interesting environment, choose an open world game. There is room enough for both.
Stellar Entertainment is working on a fresh AAA arcade racing title, and not-so-subtly hinting it could be a new Burnout.
I hope it’s not another open world snore fest. Burnout 3 was the pinnacle of the series with tight and focused events that didn’t have you pausing to look at a map every 10 seconds.
You can still play Burnout Revenge on Series S/X via backwards compatibility. Still available on the Xbox Store.
Strangely, Burnout 3 isn't backwards compatible.
Met with derision from existing Burnout-series fans at the time, Burnout Paradise remains arguably the greatest open-world racing game of all time. Here's why.
I played through the remaster quite recently. It's not as good as I remember, but I think a lot of that is because the "open world" thing was still pretty fresh back then.
I do think there's a gap in the market for a game like Burnout. With the new gen they could really make car damage a huge selling point again.
Burnout paradise remastered and original are my favorite, i got the platinum trophy for both games the nighthawk is my favorite car
Personally don't give a shit for open world racers. Give me a new Motorstorm, Split second, Outrun.
This game represented the downfall of burnout to me. I didn't find the game nearly as exciting, hated the soundtrack, and no crash mode. I don't get the high scores the game got at the time.
