PS3 2.50 firmware adds Flash 9 support

Having a web browser without flash support is "ok", not great but this makes the browser on the PS3 fantastic. Too many flash based sites to ignor this so you can bet your bottom dollar that I am a happy camper for this little added bonus.

IGN requires Flash 9 just to access the area where you can successfully select "Download"! As of right now, no matter how many times you press "Download" nothing happens!

Alright, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but considering that the current PS3 browser works with YouTube.com, that lends me to believe that yes it can play .flv files as that is all YouTube serves up. The difference now is that it can play .swf and all that other jazz that is made in the latest version of Flash.

It is somewhat limited. The javascript didn't allow for fullscreen or high quality playback and some of the tabs acted pretty iffy, but hopefully it is addressed in this update.

We do not really need any updates to what the PS3 already has, as its the most stable user friendly experience ever been created. But it is nice to know they keep pushing on with updates, as to improve on perfection can only be a good thing. Sony have honestly blew me away with their support towards gamers and their constant thought about what is needed to push the system to what it should be. The PS3 has so much to offer, not only now but in the coming years as this is an investment into the future not just now. Gaming is going only require more power and disc space and from what Sony has right now is enough to pull us into the real generation of gaming, never mind the coming years. the nintendo wii and xbox 360 is something for the little kids to play with but when it comes to business and hardcore/fun gaming only one name comes to mind....SONY!

Does anybody know how the screen grab thing is going to work? Like, that would be horrible if you had to hit the home button and scroll around to the "screen capture" menu and hit 'capture'. I want it to be a button combination. Like hold L1, L2, R1 and R2 and then press X or something. By the time you get into a menu, I'm sure the screen you wanted to capture is already gone.

games supporting the function would pause when the Home button was pressed (some games already pause- minus any "pause" icon, when the button is pressed), giving you plenty of time to select "Photo Capture."

hell, Wipeout forces you to pause the game and access the photo options, so i don't think it'd be that big of an inconvenience to press Home, the game pauses, then select photo capture. it's a free update, so i can't really complain.

I work with Action Script 3 ( the scripting language of Flash 9 and 10)pretty cool feature...now if only Nintendo did it for the opera browser.

Although why 9? would have been better if they used Flash 10 when its released.
Flash 10 makes use of multithreading and is capable of making use of a GPU. Since Sony made their own " plugin" to make it work with the cell i seriously don't get why they go with 9 if they waited a bit longer for 10....unless the SDK wont be available.

despite being happy with my ps3, going from the highly integrated live to the very seperate (although a work in progress) that is PSN, was a real step back and made me appreciate what i took for granted on my 360. The addition of a browser doesn't make any diference to me, as my laptop is usually right next to me and i cant stand how clunky and user unfriendly the PS3 browser is, often screwing up for no apparent reason.

ps3 browser compared to a pc browser is a big difference, the pc browser is better but the big difference is that my pc browser comes with a hard wooden chair that doesn't recline and my ps3 browser comes with a nice comfortable bed that i can lay down in and a ps3 controller, and now with the flash9 on its way.... that will be the final nail in the coffin for my pc truthfully..

the only thing i care about that xbl has over psn is ingame music and thats not a big deal.... not for 50 bucks anyways....

playing psn games compared to xbl games is a BIG difference and thats all that really matters to me, games. xbl cant compete in that category imo.
