Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze Will Be Full Price On Nintendo Switch

Nintendo is getting ready for a pretty fun summer, as Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze will lead the charge once May rolls around. But for those expecting the formerly released Wii U game to come around at a lower price than most Switch fare, there’s some bad news.

You would think that with Switch being a hybrid system that Nintendo would release some games at budget prices on it like Sony does with some of their first party titles for their stationary console.

Tropical Freeze cost 49.99 on Wii U on day 1.
I think Mario Kart 8 Deluxe cost 49.99 as well and it actually had substantial new content.

DKTF launched in 2014 with a MSRP of $50 and Nintendo is currently selling it for $20. There is no excuse for them to charge $60 for this Switch port of a 4 year old game.

I hope they don't do this same thing for the price of Captain Toad Treasure Tracker but knowing Nintendo it will be $60 too.

Because Nintendo IP is more valuable than Sony or Microsoft first party IP. And they sell well even at a high price. Reason why is Nintendo almost always release games that become instant classics and are played for years to come. 😜

Ok, other remastered games have released for $50-$60 dollars, and only a few of them has earned that full price such as The Last of Us and Uncharted Trilogy. Most other remastered games however have been around the $40 which seems to be the sweet spot.

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze does not warrant a full priced $60 re-release that features Funky Kong as easy mode. That is a rip-off I'm sorry. The game itself is a great game, but they are hardly adding anything to it. If it was bundled with Donkey Kong Country Returns, then it be a different story. But as of now, they are ripping us off.

I think they should have added at least even a slight discount. I don't know if I could go as far as to say they're ripping anyone off someone's free to choose to purchase this or not but I definitely believe they're taking advantage.

It's not surprising because this is the same company who kept Twilight princess on Wii at $50 until 2011, Paper mario TTYD on gamecube at $50 years into last gen until 2009, and even Pikmin 3 which released 5 years ago on a failed console is still $59.99. Nintendo keeps prices on their 1st party titles at these prices because they feel they are valuable enough for people to keep buying them. I know activision does something similar with CoD where the release from 2 years prior is the same price as the new one coming out. Though they only do that because they don't need to lower it to get sales.

Hope everyone loves their $600 wanna be portable console. Maybe I'm at the age where what I do on the go is what I do because it's on the go as opposed to trying to play games with myself while doing other things. Everyone I know used their switch as a console and never on the go.

I still believe that if they weren't trying to appeal so much to the Japanese market they would/could have released an actual console with better cspabilities. Sorry but a $300 "system" that needs $300 more to play properly as a home system is a cash grab in my opinion!

Still can not believe this system is truly selling at the rate that it is. Buy up them full priced rehashed games so Nintendo doesn't have a reason to do anything but release them!

You don’t have to be “on the go” to enjoy a portable system 🙄. You sound like an out of touch old man. I play my Switch in portable mode in my own house mostly in bed, on the couch, while my wife watches TV, in the bathroom, even outside on my deck sometimes.

The sheer convenience of the Switch is the reason why the system is performing so well.

yeah... have you not seen switch remakes yet somehow? Mario Kart 8, DOOM, Skyrim and bayonetta have all been full price, even second hand nintendo games go for near full price somehow.
