Here’s what Switch owners think after one year with Nintendo’s hot hybrid

The State of Switch 2018 survey results from over 1,500 Switch owners.

FullmetalRoyale2253d ago

I’m enjoying mine quite a bit, as well!

Zeldafan642253d ago

Same here. I've put over 800 hours of total playtime into mine. Over 500 hours into Zelda alone.

3-4-52252d ago

I need to try out handheld mode.

I've played 100% since launch day last year with my Pro controller docked on the big screen and it plays amazing.

Pro controller is my favorite controller ever so I would just rather play the Switch games with that on the big screen rather than use it as a handheld....awesome that the options is there though, but I'm still using my 3DS a lot as a handheld so I'm set on that for now.

Zeldafan642252d ago

I've surprised myself with how much I play in handheld mode. I figured I'd play around 80%-20% in favor of docked mode but I'd say it's close to a 50-50 split at this point.

_-EDMIX-_2252d ago

Agreed

That's actually how I played the PSP for the duration of my use with that system. As I got older I just would be in less places in which I would really need to be using it and just kind of got used to just plugging it in my TV and playing games with my PS3 controller, I think almost all of Final Fantasy 3 might have been played this way. (Or another game but there's definitely a few PSP games that I actually only played on the TV)

So I see me probably doing the same thing for the Nintendo switch but I also see me definitely bringing it over friend's house to play Mario Kart or Animal Crossing.

I'm playing through shin Megami tensei 4 for a second time but I believe after I'm done I'm just going to retire my 3DS. I've only used my 3DS on one of the TVs in my house and also a computer monitor but that's only because it was altered to play that way for one of my friends speed runs. They held the records for Mario RPG paper jam and Link Between Worlds.

So I think the younger me would just play this without connecting it to the TV, but I think the older me would probably just settle for outing it to the television like I did the PSP and 3DS in a couple of other Portables. My eyesight isn't what it used to be and I just prefer gaming on a really big screen.

Aceman182252d ago

I'm only playing as portable because I'm heavily into MHW and GTS. It's the only way I can get to play Xenoblade chronicles 2, which i play during breakfast and lunch lol.

Generally I would just play it docked

Wotbot2253d ago

The best console ever, period.

michellelynn09762253d ago

It is such a fun console. I love it.

blackblades2253d ago

Lol delusional much, best nintendo console ever but not best console ever overall.

deafdani2253d ago

Dude, you can't be serious, or you are way too young. If the Switch is the best Nintendo console ever, it would make it better than the SNES... which is pretty easy to make a point for it being the best home console ever made, what with the brutal third party support it got on top of all the Nintendo goodness.

(I don't think the Switch is the best Nintendo console, BTW. It's pretty damn good for sure, but it's still way too early to make a proper judgment).

_-EDMIX-_2252d ago

@deaf-agreed I'm not even sure if I could say this is my favorite Nintendo system I would just have to wait and see what the releases are like because I think it's just too early to tell I mean many of us could have said the same thing about the Gamecube or the Wii but all you have to do is play Double Dash or some of the other games that failed like Skyward Sword in you might disagree.

So I say let's wait till the games actually start to come out from all their major franchises before saying something like this because for all we know we're going to get something as bad as Star Fox Zero.

No one could make a determination on really any system until enough games comes out that surpass the previous.

For me as I've gotten older in hindsight I actually see the GameCube I was one of my favorite Nintendo consoles when you look at Twilight Princess and Wind Waker as well as melee Resident Evil 1 remake Resident Evil Zero Mario Sunshine Luigi's Mansion Animal Crossing Paper Mario Thousand Year Door

So it wasn't just some of my favorite Nintendo franchises it was actually in my personal opinion some of the best of those franchises with the exception of Star Fox and Mario Kart (and to be fair Double Dash is not even that bad of a game it might not be as good as Mario Kart 64 but it's definitely not as terrible as Star Fox Zero or anything like that)

So those franchises releasing don't really matter we still need to know that the quality of solid because we're all we know it's going to be a whole bunch of Star Fox Zero lol.

So we're going to need to wait till some of those games released before that verdicts out.

Dragonscale2252d ago

The dumbest comment ever, period.

Wotbot2252d ago

The dumbest ever response, period.

Aceman182252d ago

Let's not get it twisted here the SNES is the best Nintendo console ever, and both it and the PS1 are the greatest home consoles ever imo.

Wotbot2252d ago (Edited 2252d ago )

It’s funny how so many gamers don’t even mention the PC Engine, a great console which matched the Snes during its time at the top and had just as many great games.

SNES was my favourite console but as far as console designs go,then it has to go to the Switch, it’s a gamers dream come true. The original PlayStation comes 3rd.

ThanatosDMC2253d ago

I regret buying Payday 2 on it. I should have bought a different game.

blackblades2253d ago

I regret buying it for the 2nd on from ps3 and ps4. I like it but the fun didn't last long on both systems. Hopefully the walking dead from overkill is good amd long lasting.

ThanatosDMC2252d ago

Lol... funny thing is I have it on the PS3, PS4, PC, and Switch. Couldnt stop myself even know Overkill sucks so much with console ports.

Fantomex2253d ago

I wish it has GameCube VC titles on it.

marloc_x2253d ago

..just hang on a little bit longer😉

BadElf2253d ago

How much longer? Takes too long!

_-EDMIX-_2252d ago

In my opinion best Nintendo console!
Literally some of the last of the best franchises released on that system anything after that system in my opinion is just suspect.

Paper Mario turned garbage Mario Galaxy controls are nerfed in casual compared to Sunshine, Skyward Sword was just terrible , Smash Brothers got more casual and removed so many of the call hardcore features and the list goes on.

So for me GameCube holds a special place with me as one of the last Nintendo systems that wasn't any tricks wasn't any gimmicks just amazing software and design anything after that I personally did not like as much as the GameCube releases and only as I got older that I realize how great those games were when we weren't seeing that level of quality anymore.

I guess it's true what they say that you don't realize what you had until it's gone.

BadElf2253d ago

I love mine. It really is a beauty.
I just dont think enough games...at a quick enough pace, are coming

higgins782253d ago

You kidding? Between retail, Indie and VC (of sorts) I can't keep up. Feels like every month between 2-3 games I feel are essential get released amongst others.

BadElf2252d ago

Really? Its been out for 12 months.. so you have 24-36 games ? And its was 2-3 each month? Wow.

Aceman182252d ago

I only own 3 games on the system lol

XC2
SMO
Mario/Rabbids.

higgins782252d ago

No. I have 15 games, both retail and Indie. Many, many more I'm interested in but don't have the time between work, family and friends AND other interests/hobbies.

Review - Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- Sweep the Board! (Switch) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Aaron Price: "All in all, if you like Demon Slayer and you like Mario Party, there’s a really good chance you’ll have fun with this game, as niche as this condition can be. At least for a little bit. Much like Mario Party though, it may just be saved for parties when you have people around to play with because it’s not exactly the most thrilling thing to play alone, and as mentioned already, you won’t be able to find people online to play with unless you’re really, really lucky."

Let's Be Real, There Is Nothing "Micro" About Microtransactions Anymore

Microtransactions have gotten ridiculously overpriced in recent years, with titles now offering cosmetic skins worth more than some games.

Terry_B1d 4h ago

Yup..this is 100% the sad truth

z2g7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

The elephant in the room tho is personal accountability. It’s easy (albeit basic) to blame the big, bad corpo, but microtransactions wouldn’t be where they are if gamers didn’t spend money on them. As it stands the MTs usually make more than the game. Publishers know raising game prices will cause backlash, so they do MTs to compensate. But the adult conversation is consumers determine the success of products with their wallets. So if MTs are a huge thing, it’s because we as consumers told them we like them by giving them a lot of money for them. So if you don’t want them to be a thing, convince your fellow gamers to stop buying them and expect that games will be decently more expensive. You all can disagree all you want, but reality is a bitch, and eventually you have to live in it.

anast5h ago

Trying to convince people is the least realistic thing. If we are trying to be adults, actual action is what changes things not "convincing campaigns" on platforms owned by the people 'you' are going against. It's madness and idealistic.

ApocalypseShadow34m ago

Easier said than done. I've told gamers for years to not buy micro transactions, expensive dlc, etc. Gamers bought it anyway. Didn't fit on a DVD that would have fit on a Blu-ray disc.

I also told some gamers to not pay for online like Xbox Live because it would force the rest of the industry to only offer playing online if you pay for it. Told them not to support a broken console that Red Ringed. To not support Xbox One because Microsoft tried to take away game ownership and how you play your games. To not pay for a console by one manufacturer where a, now 3 trillion worth, didn't make enough games at the level of Nintendo or Sony who are worth less money.

How much of that did you support anyway with your money then go back and read your comment again.

isarai20h ago

I mean except for the amount of content you're paying for.

Hugodastrevas9h ago

There never was, the only time I paid for a microtransaction was on Blacklight Retribution (PS4) and it was because I enjoyed the game a lot so I felt the devs should get something for all that entertainment (€5 "membership")

-Foxtrot8h ago

The devs wouldn’t get that though, that shit goes straight to the higher ups who do f*** all let’s be honest.

Hugodastrevas7h ago

Probably, but I wasn't as cynical back then and €5 wasn't a big ask to get the guns with grinding instead of renting them, and the game was good (still is on the PS5/4)

CrimsonWing697h ago(Edited 7h ago)

I couldn’t believe what Blizzard charged for horse armor and cosmetics in Diablo 4…

I remember back in the day when a season pass was $15 and you got everything included in it. Now, I see them at $60 and you still don’t get everything.

CantThinkOfAUsername45m ago

That's just Blizzard. Unlike Bethesda's $0.99 horse armour, Blizzard's first microtransaction, Sparkle Pony, cost $15.

Shane Kim7h ago

As soon as gaming wasn't deemed nerdy anymore, and reached the casuals this happened. We're smart, but casuals play mobile games and other stuff, and don't really have anything to compare. They think gaming is supposed to be like this and pay for in game purchases.
