2018 is off to a good start for the gaming industry. Revenues in January were up 59 percent year-over-year and generated $1.096 billion, according to the industry-tracking firm The NPD Group.
Glad to see MHW get the success it deserved. And surprised the Switch sold the most hardware considering they had no heavy hitters that launched in January.
Ikr and what's even more surprising the Xbox was very close to the juggernauts Sony and Nintendo for the month of January congrats to all 3 companies
yeah, it was a good month all around. Good news for gamers :)
Thus again proving that exclusives, while important aren’t the only reasons to buy a game system, and why some people like me like having a one x to play on; to have the best console versions of the most popular games.
That sony juggernaut they outsold in december? 🙄
***Thus again proving that exclusives, while important aren’t the only reasons to buy a game system*** Who ever said it was? It's a combination of factors. And how does this support your claim considering the console that fans use to tout its exclusives sells more third party titles as well, including MHW? At least use a better argument. This one doesn't make sense. --- With this news that Xbox was back in third place and Sony generated the most revenue, that means X sales likely dropped by a large margin. Either that or Pro sales skyrocketed or PSVR blew up.
Yes indeed. Been playing MHW on XBX1 it's amazing also got my N.Switch with Zelda and Mario this month. Congrats to Capcom and Nintendo.
Yeah Genius! With no exclusives in January who would have thought that? Man at least use your brain before using 3rd party sales to downplay exclusives just because MS is lacking them.
I am so addicted to this game. Bow and Switch-Axe FTW!!
Switch is still selling based on people who have yet to get one and want to play the game available at the moment, plus anticipation of whats to come. 2018 is going to be a big year for the Switch.....and all video games to be honest. I expect this E3 to be huge for everyone.
Love this game sooooooo much!!!
Nintendo did well with hardware and exclusive games. There's not one multiplatform game on Nintendo list except for Minecraft and it was still the leading console in sales for the holidays👍
meanwhile the 5 best selling games arent on switch. Exclusives are cool but if thats all you have its still a lost cause.
Great exclusives gives each console an identity 😁👍🏻
Handfull exclusives < 3rd Party support Just look at the release lists of PS4&X1 vs Switch. For every 10 games they have Switch gets 1
Then you lost the mean of console brand. It give console identity since the beginning.
Wait a minute. I thought no one would buy monster hunter on the xbox. It beat out pubg for the number one spot, Impressive
Well, you can say they choose better game than PUGB.
Probably because PUBG launched in December. Which would put overall demand lower in January.
Oh, you kinda right. But remember this, the first Monster Hunter game was on console which was PS2. Capcom made a right choice to make Monster Hunter series return to proper console. If I remember correctly, Monster Hunter World is also most paid game in Xbox Store and way more than PUGB. Like I said, they choose better option than PUGB.
Capcom was smart to release MH in January
MHW is easily my front runner to date for GOTY.
I got 130 hours in it so far, I'm on hard rank, but i would not put it as game of the year But i could put it as game that make you grind the most that is fun I don't get Zelda breath of wild feeling from it, when i knew it was game of the year after 5 hours I play with my friends online, and i help others with their assigned missions, i do not need to go back to low rank, but i do it to help others just like other top players help me when i first started and my friends were at work and i had no help, so i depend on random people
PUBG is only available on Xbox One as a retail game, still #4 is huge. The top 2 games are the only new games on the list, makes sense new games sell more than old ones.
What are you trying to say ? You mean Monster Hunter series aren’t popular like PUGB ? You do understand that Monster Hunter World was the most paid game on Xbox One store and surpass PUGB for good reason. Because people choose better options than PUGB.
maybe because PUBG is in its 3rd month and Monster Hunter is NEW? PUBG beeing #4 overall charts just shows how popular it is. In a month noone will play Monster Hunter while PUBG is still rocking 3million concurrent players. Dont worry.
Can't wait to play it on my PS4!
Yep its the best game of last year
Cod is no beast is a boring feast
Monster Hunter finally got the Treatment it deserves. Congrats Capcom.
Good. Monster Hunter deserves the spot more than those two do. Contender for GOTY 2018 so far.
Good! Im sick of this market being over saturated with shooters.. Itd be nice to see publishers take risks on new IPs like they used to.. I get theyre super expensive to make but they can make budget titles to try out something new.. Oh well, at least this game doing well will show capcom that people do want their games.. They just have to be done right.. Street Fighter anniversary edition the megaman 11.. Capcom is getting some of my money this year.. RE7 was a success too.. Im loving MHW so far.. I finished the main quest but theres so much more i want to do.. I had a fresh dual shock 4 controller that got broken in with this one...
Im stuck on Pink Rathian.
What is hard about it?
HEALTHY MARKET! I know microtransactions had a lot to do with the boost in revenue though.. I hope the industry doesnt get too greedy.. Good to see Dragon Ball FighterZ did well too.. Arc System Works needs more recognition.. They do incredible work yet so many people dont have a clue about Guilty Gear/Blaz Blu.. Nintendo having 3 spots in the top 10 is very impressive.. Especially since the switch isnt even a year old yet.. Insane attach rate for mario, zelda, & mario kart..
Congratulations to all. Love to see my favorite hobby healthy.
Happy to spend 60 on your game capcom it looks amazing on my X1X
