Glad to see MHW get the success it deserved. And surprised the Switch sold the most hardware considering they had no heavy hitters that launched in January.

Ikr and what's even more surprising the Xbox was very close to the juggernauts Sony and Nintendo for the month of January congrats to all 3 companies

Neonridr240d ago

yeah, it was a good month all around. Good news for gamers :)

Thus again proving that exclusives, while important aren’t the only reasons to buy a game system, and why some people like me like having a one x to play on; to have the best console versions of the most popular games.

Kribwalker240d ago

That sony juggernaut they outsold in december? 🙄

***Thus again proving that exclusives, while important aren’t the only reasons to buy a game system***

Who ever said it was? It's a combination of factors. And how does this support your claim considering the console that fans use to tout its exclusives sells more third party titles as well, including MHW?

At least use a better argument. This one doesn't make sense.

With this news that Xbox was back in third place and Sony generated the most revenue, that means X sales likely dropped by a large margin. Either that or Pro sales skyrocketed or PSVR blew up.

christocolus240d ago

Yes indeed. Been playing MHW on XBX1 it's amazing also got my N.Switch with Zelda and Mario this month. Congrats to Capcom and Nintendo.

AspiringProGenji240d ago

Yeah Genius! With no exclusives in January who would have thought that? Man at least use your brain before using 3rd party sales to downplay exclusives just because MS is lacking them.

I am so addicted to this game. Bow and Switch-Axe FTW!!

Switch is still selling based on people who have yet to get one and want to play the game available at the moment, plus anticipation of whats to come.

2018 is going to be a big year for the Switch.....and all video games to be honest.

I expect this E3 to be huge for everyone.

CrimsonWing69240d ago

Love this game sooooooo much!!!

Cyborgg240d ago (Edited 240d ago )

Nintendo did well with hardware and exclusive games. There's not one multiplatform game on Nintendo list except for Minecraft and it was still the leading console in sales for the holidays👍

Yohshida240d ago (Edited 240d ago )

meanwhile the 5 best selling games arent on switch. Exclusives are cool but if thats all you have its still a lost cause.

Cyborgg240d ago (Edited 240d ago )

Great exclusives gives each console an identity 😁👍🏻

Yohshida240d ago

Handfull exclusives < 3rd Party support
Just look at the release lists of PS4&X1 vs Switch. For every 10 games they have Switch gets 1

UCForce240d ago

Then you lost the mean of console brand. It give console identity since the beginning.

Kribwalker240d ago

Wait a minute. I thought no one would buy monster hunter on the xbox. It beat out pubg for the number one spot, Impressive

UCForce240d ago

Well, you can say they choose better game than PUGB.

Vizigoth04240d ago (Edited 240d ago )

Probably because PUBG launched in December. Which would put overall demand lower in January.

UCForce240d ago

Oh, you kinda right. But remember this, the first Monster Hunter game was on console which was PS2. Capcom made a right choice to make Monster Hunter series return to proper console. If I remember correctly, Monster Hunter World is also most paid game in Xbox Store and way more than PUGB. Like I said, they choose better option than PUGB.
