Despite a good start and its many sterling qualities, TL5M is shackled by its temporal premise. The Longest 5 Minutes feels like its flashbacks undermine any attempt at challenge or making a player feel like their quest is important or dangerous.
RPGSite:
The Longest 5 Minutes isn’t really the most innovative RPG, despite its presentation, but it’s a short and fun game to play through. You may not be surprised by the plot or challenged by the gameplay, but for genre fans, it’s still worth the playthrough just to see how the unusual situation of a hero losing his memories at the end of the game (rather than the start) is handled.
HPP: "If there is one thing I’ve learned about video games, it’s that hero characters have a knack for suffering from amnesia. Almost all the classic stories we know and love start off with amazing heroes completely forgetting who they are. We saw it with Gillian Seed from Snatcher, Zero from the Mega Man series, and, of course, Darth Reven from Knights of the Old Republic. This is usually done to make the player feel weak and powerless at the beginning of a story. Sequels often seem to suffer the same fate."
