400+ hours on Steam, 150+ hours on GOG... I wonder how many times I can play this game without getting bored.

nowitzki20042266d ago

I have about 250 hours and cant wait to play it again.

Yi-Long2266d ago

Have it on PS4, haven't finished it because it's a game I feel you really have to STAY in, or else you quickly forget about what you were doing, and how.

Picked up the GOTY for XBO for 15 bucks, cause I didn't have any of the DLC yet, so planning tonreturn to the game and start over once I get an XBO X.

Kornholic2266d ago (Edited 2266d ago )

Be prepared to play the next 100+ hours nothing but Witcher 3. It's a great game and a masterpiece. The only downside is that it takes all your free time. Once you're finished with the main game, you have about 30+ hours worth of DLC, both of which are top notch. The Blood and Wine expansion alone offers more content than many full priced games. I'm not normally an RPG guy but Witcher 3 did manage to pull me in and keep me in its grip.

Mutant-Spud2266d ago (Edited 2266d ago )

I'm at 124 hours, level 38, blood and broken bones difficulty; just finished Hearts Of Stone, about to do Blood And Wine no Gwent, racing or fighting yet and my map is still dotted with activities; this is the only game this gen, so far, which I find myself thinking about during the day when I'm at work.

thats also one of the nice little touches they did with the game, when ever you load it up again, you are given a quick recap of whast ahppened and what the main quest goal is to keep youimmersed.

also as always, i suggest witcher 3 to be played on Death March for full immersion

nitus102265d ago

I originally played the game on the "Blood and broken bones" difficulty and after finishing White Orchard restarted the game on "Death March" which as you have quite rightly pointed out gives you full immersion. Somehow I doubt I could ever play the game on "permadeath".

Got it for my xbox one after seeing lots of comments saying how good it was. I was bored with it. Tried it few more Times at a later date, still boring.

dougr2266d ago

I actually agree with you. I bought it for my wife, I tried to play it, I just am not a fan of the combat. Maybe I didn't give it a shot, but I also didn't like witcher 2, so I may have been blinded by the fact I wasn't a fan of #2 so i don't think i really gave 3 a proper chance.

--bienio--2266d ago

I just hold with playing the Witcher at the moment cos waiting for my new monitor. After I got it I will spend another hours with this amazing game!

Nerdmaster2266d ago

I really wanted to play it again, but I left my 3D Vision glasses and 3D Ready monitor at my house in another country, and even though the game itself is really great, having played it for so long watching those beautiful graphics in 3D, I just can't get used to playing it in 2D...

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan19d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave18d ago (Edited 18d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.

Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.

Name Last Name42d ago

I mean some sequels are objectively better and you don’t need to play the whole series.

Inverno42d ago

But most of these games have a story to follow, sure you can catch up with a YouTube vid but where's the fun in that?

LucasRuinedChildhood42d ago (Edited 42d ago )

A list like this isn't telling you not to play the previous games if you want to. It's just giving you legendary games to play.

But tbh, you don't always have to force yourself to play every entry in a franchise to get to the better ones.

- The vast majority of Witcher 3 players never played the first 2 and had a great time. The first 2 games aren't in the same league.
- The GTA games are self-contained with the odd fun reference. You can easily jump into any of them.
- The Shadow Of The Colossus remake looks and controls better than the original (plus it has a 60fps option while the remaster is just 30fps). New players will enjoy it more.
- Portal 2 is a lot better than Portal 1 and takes the concept much further gameplay-wise. Storywise, Portal 1 is fairly light too. Not that you shouldn't play it but realistically ... you'd love Portal 2 whether you play it or not (at lot of Portal 2 players have never played 1).

Bioshock 1 is the only one I agree with you on simply because it's one the best games of all time and arguably better than Infinite. No other setting like Rapture.

Looking at the list, I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before 2 but no doubt, 2 is the legendary one you have to play.

Inverno42d ago

I get it, but that's just my opinion on his opinion. I just think that before you play a sequel you should still play what came before it. Maybe it's just me but i find it fascinating playing through the first game in a series and seeing how it has evolved through its sequels. Like I said I don't disagree with the list, other than SoTC which I strongly believe the remaster of the original should be played above the remake.

AuraAbjure42d ago

Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.
