Dissidia Final Fantasy and its follow-up, 012, were both released on the PSP in 2008 and 2012 respectively. It’s been a long time since the series was last seen and game design has changed drastically since then.

Given that, what’s the difference? How have the Dissidia games changed since the franchise’s inception on the PSP to the recent release on PS4. Here are the major changes between Dissidia Final Fantasy and Dissidia Final Fantasy NT.

I'm curious but is it possible to legally play these games without buying a psp?

luckytrouble1134d ago

You can play some of them on the Vita via PSN purchasing, but a PSP with a functional UMD drive is the only completely legal way to play games like FF7: Crisis Core.

WeAreLegion1133d ago

Some of them, yes. But most PSP games are locked to that system or digitally on Vita. The Vita's second analog stick is amazing for FPS games. I use an emulator to play many PSP games. I know that's illegal, but I wouldn't call it unethical. There's no way to give developers money for these games anymore. Unless you buy their new games. :)

Highly recommend Infected, if you get the chance.

Magic_Spatula1133d ago

Emulators aren't illegal. Unethical? Maybe. The issue companies have are how you obtained the games. If you got them through legal matters (such as making your own backups of games you own and not distributing them), they're mostly okay with that. If you got the through less..... ethical means, then yeah, it's a no-no in their eyes.

Fluke_Skywalker1133d ago

@Magic_Spatula Like he said, there is no legal way to buy most psp games anymore in a way that gives the developers any money. So yes emulators are normally illegal and unethical, but in this case its actually the only way to play some of these games, if you didn't buy the games many years ago.

Fluke_Skywalker1133d ago

Yeah they really need to give us a remake of that for PS4/5 I absolutely loved that game. Still the saddest ending to a video game ever.

SDuck1134d ago

The fact this has vanilla Dissidia instead of Duodecim tells me not to take the list serious. Duodecim is obviously the superior since it has the same content (story included) from the first game and (much) more

Magic_Spatula1133d ago

Yeah. Duodecim was basically an enhanced version of the original game.

What Went Wrong With Dissidia Final Fantasy NT?

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT offered plenty of fan service, but in other aspects it was incredibly superficial.

The things I liked the most in PSP Dissidia was the RPG elements, and even though the plot fell into the "Square trap" by being too convoluted, I really liked seeing those characters from different games interacting with each other. I didn't hate the battle system, but it was not my favorite aspect either.

Then, in Dissidia NT, they threw away everything I liked about the series, and focused on the battles. And they made it even more chaotic by making it 3 vs 3. Tried playing it in an arcade here in Japan and even tried the free PC version, but I really couldn't care about it.

jambola1525d ago

Did it even have a story?
I never played except 15 minutes of the beta and about 10 second of the free version

I liked being able to customize our fighters with a variety of their iconic moves. The grind was awesome and the environments were so interactive. The music was great. Dissidia NT removed so much of what made dissidia, dissidia, and It just left long time fans of the series (who have been quite vocal about wanting a console iteration) massively disappointed.

drizzom1525d ago (Edited 1525d ago )

Everyone has been saying this since before it came out and all we had were trailers but they keep asking the same question for some stupid reason.

AK911525d ago (Edited 1525d ago )

They made it to arcade like and not enough customisation like the previous games but a part of me thinks the reason they stopped development is because they plan to create an NT 2 for PS5.

jambola1525d ago

Well the forced 3v3 was kinda crap

Mr_Luke1525d ago

I know i'm the only one but i find those Dissidia unplayable. Maybe i'm too used to SF, Tekken and thos (i know they're different but we're talking about fighting games). Even the many DragonBall games were more enjoyable for me, the bad ones too :P
