It’s Time to Bring Back Perfect Dark

Jacob St-Amour from Link-Cable Writes: "Microsoft has been hard at work over introducing their newest game service, the Xbox Game Pass, showcasing their upcoming releases as well as prepping for what they state will be a promising and rewarding experience for this year’s E3 festivities. The positivity as of late surrounding Microsoft shouldn’t go unnoticed, but they have been playing catch up for quite some time and they need an added boost to really get things going, which is why it is the perfect time to go back and reintroduce a classic IP and bring out the Perfect Dark franchise to the Xbox One."

Would love to see The Coalition have a go at Perfect Dark

Sciurus_vulgaris2262d ago

There was the leak by an insider (with proven credibility) that Perfect Dark is being rebooted with the Coalition assisting development. I still have my finger crossed for the franchise to return. Both Phil Spencer and Ken Lobb mentioned rebooting Perfect Dark several years.

morganfell2262d ago

But it needs to be a Perfect Dark sequel or reboot. Not this silly teen girl take MS brought out for the 360 launch. Atrocious. I long since sold that game but love the original digital Perfect Dark uprezzed version on the 360.

The Wood2262d ago

There's a few titles ms should bring back

TheCommentator2262d ago (Edited 2262d ago )

I agree, Morganfell, but part of the reason Perfect Dark sucked so bad is that it was in development for Gamecube before MS bought Rare. Porting it to OG Xbox began, and in the middle of the porting to OG, MS switched it up to the 360. Technically speaking, even though it was in development forever, it went through most of it just altering base code to work on other HW.

With that said, I'd like to see an open world game (possibly resembling Watchdogs?). It would be bonkers if Playground turned out to be making something like this, considering their pedigree with open world racing, but I'm pretty sure their other studio is working on the next Fable.

Bobafret2262d ago (Edited 2262d ago )

I thought Black Tusk was a much better name than something so dreary as "The Coalition". All the charm of an Excel spreadsheet. But yes, would love to see this happen.

Professor_K2261d ago

Hell YEAH. One of my favorite devs working on PD.

lellkay2262d ago

I hope so. I think there is a lot of value and potential in the IP.

Xenophon_York2262d ago

Could make one helluva an exclusive for Switch

TheCommentator2262d ago

Go play with your cardboard accessories if you want Switch exclusives.

Nintendo's worst mistake is letting Rare being sold to Microsoft...

Ms doesnt seem to care about reviving older ip's. When was the last time they did?

sk8ofmnd2262d ago

K.I. launched on xb1 Nov 22 2013... That was over 4 years ago. What im saying is they have a treasure chest of games from the og xbox and 360 gen that could be revived yet gamers are still waiting.

Five Big Games Still Lingering Somewhere in Development Hell

This year promises to be a big year for gaming, and it will definitely be one of the greatest if any of these big MIA projects finally made it into gamers' hands.

Pretty sure Silk Song and Dragon Age are going smoothly. The other 2 can be assumed to be quietly cancelled knowing their publishers and Metroid will most likely be shown off this year.

Michiel198993d ago

Dragon Age going smoothly??? Directors leaving, people leaving in general, terrible working conditions....not sure how you define smoothly.

Chocoburger94d ago

I remember in 2017 when Nintendo showed off the Metroid Prime 4 logo, and some Nintendo defenders claimed "Just because they only showed a logo, doesn't mean that's all they've worked on for the game."

As history has proven, they were wrong. Nintendo showed off a logo back in 2017 because that's literally all they had.

-Foxtrot93d ago

I think Beyond Good and Evil 2 can stay there unless they are going to just rename it to a new IP

DOMination-93d ago

Pretty sure BG&E2 is dead at this point - along with the other game Ancel was working on before he left - I think it was called WILD. Anyone remember that from a PS conference years ago?

Dreadwolf isn't in development hell anymore and is finally getting its reveal in the summer - since 2016 the game has been scrapped and restarted three times but its been going pretty well since the last reboot when EA finally allowed BioWare to just get on with making a single player game.

I'm not sure Perfect Dark is in development hell either - like it could be but we haven't really heard much to suggest either way - imo they just showed the trailer off when the game was still in pre-production. Xbox were desperate for anything and this is all they had at the time. And the reason we haven't heard anything since is just because it's in normal development and games take 5 years to make. The help from a support studio was typically overblown on N4G because nearly every game has this.

Xbox’s Perfect Dark Reboot Is Still Years Away

Years of setbacks have stalled development on the new Perfect Dark, and while it’s well underway now, we may have to wait a while yet.

This game project is going perfectly dark

🏃‍♂️💨

lelo2play295d ago (Edited 295d ago )

The Initiative in 5 years have nothing.
How come Microsoft hasn't disbanded them?

Jin_Sakai295d ago (Edited 295d ago )

That’s because Microsoft likes there hands off approach.

Look at Minecraft... We’re 3 years into current gen and still playing the Xbox One and PS4 version. Still no 4k, no 120fps, no Ray-Tracing, and no graphics updates whatsoever. Coming from a studio with over 600 employees.

Reaper22_295d ago

The Last Guardian took 10 years to make. In fact a whole generation passed before it was released. Playstation gamers were still OK with it. As long as Perfect Dark comes out good im sure xbox gamers will be OK with it.

StormSnooper295d ago

MS is busy rebranding Multiplatform games as xbox exclusive. They can't be bothered with making games.

tay8701295d ago

@reaper you forget playstation closed japan studio's not long after? Japan studios were awesome but you can't have development cycles last that long.

Crows90295d ago

Microsoft doesnt know how to make good games. The initiative will fail. They've probably restarted the project at least once already.

The rumor was they're working on the next Tombraider at Square so PD is somewhat on the back burner now. Apparently TR will release before PD.

RpgSama295d ago

I hope you are joking...

Square sold Tomb Raider IP like 2 years ago.

Lightning77295d ago

I meant Crystal Dynamics apologies for that.

Lightning77295d ago (Edited 295d ago )

@Fire Im a heat magnet of downvote. Which is a good thing because it means ppl are paying attention to my words and findings.

My mistake here gives them an actual reason to downvote.

Nobody agrees, but everyone knows I'm right about these things. The more heat and downvotes the better for me actually.

All they're doing is validating the facts and logics. That's all I need so it's working.

Downvote away validate my comments lol

Sonic1881295d ago (Edited 295d ago )

You mean Embracer group? Crystal Dynamics is own by them now

Godmars290295d ago

Embracer?

Wonder if that was the billion dollar deal that's apparently tanked them.

Ashunderfire86295d ago

You all know what the guy means you don't have to disagree alot lol

Flawlessmic295d ago

well it makes sense for CD to focus on there own ip's first and foremost.

there a talented studio so im sure they will make a great PD game when it actually does release

RupeeHoarder295d ago (Edited 295d ago )

They might as well save it for next console launch.

TheKingKratos295d ago

Good, Xbox fanboys kids and grandkids will have Xbox own games to play in the future then.

Crows90295d ago

The games they took from everyone else...yes.

Where's that fable? New IP from coalition? New game form 343? Where's the game from the initiative...these are the ones that actually belong to Microsoft and there's nothing to see.

All the others they purchased in order to take away from other companies ..and to do so permanently.
