Review: Shadow of the Colossus (PS4) | Destructoid

Not to diminish the accomplishments of this remake, but it's all possible because Team Ico's Shadow of the Colossus is so impossibly perfect. It's epic and majestic and emotional and imaginative and breathtaking. There are so many superlative adjectives you could attach. Shadow of the Colossus' reputation is as great as some of its tallest colossi. This remake might just help some people see that a little more clearly.

Can't wait to dive back into this world!

Sony needs to contract blueprint to make a new Second party PS4 IP. They seem to have a great working relationship.

_-EDMIX-_2647d ago

Well they do a great job transferring games from other systems but we actually don't know this team to actually create games from the ground up to really know if they would ever do a good job making a game from the ground up.

It would almost be like trying to say that the people that remaster the older Star Wars films would do a great job actually physically filming a new Star Wars film....

If Sony ever hires this team I would only expect them to hire them for their ability to properly transfer games from one system to another.

I'm very excited to play this on Pro with a performance mode (locked 60) and a visual mode all in gorgeous HDR. The screenshot button will be used often.

Jinger2646d ago

Yeah, going to be great on the Pro!

kowan2647d ago

Bluepoint games' future is bright. I wonder when they'll be making their own big game?

A 10???? Man GTFO with that BS! If the controls are anything like the PS2 versions, which multiple sitesa have already said they are then there is NO WAY this game is a 10. the controls are what hindered the game on PS2. Sure the graphics are nice but this game's controls, along with a large boring world and extremely repetitive game play do not warrant it a 10.
Game reviewers need to stop judging games by their graphics. I am looking at you Uncharted 4, Horizon ZD and now this....

Found the filthy CASUL^

G20WLY2647d ago

Lmfao wow, you're bent out of shape over this huh... 😂

There are 4 different control schemes. FOUR!

SOTC, HZD and UC4 are all awesome games. Their graphics are just the icing on the cake.

"I am looking at you Uncharted 4, Horizon ZD and now this..."

O Yea, you're SO not a jealous fanboy.. Lmao.

ps3vita4life2647d ago

His dislike towards Sony games is totally not obvious /s

I hate when people use the word repetitive. All games are repetitive by nature but what truly matters is how developers pace their games and make each scenario feel unique and fresh. That along with solid game mechanics. Those three games do that all incredibly well IN ADDITION to having awesome graphics. Great graphics =/= bad game

Clunkyd2647d ago

Why so mad at PlayStation's success? LMAO

"A 10???? Man GTFO with that BS! If the controls are anything like the PS2 versions"

I mean if you read into this remake, you know they fixed the controls.... either way, you sound butthurt that sony just keeps throwing PS4 gamers the goods. aka the reason why you buy a game console...

trouble_bubble2647d ago

You’re looking at Uncharted, Horizon and SOTC as the problem? Look at yourself instead. This is THREE straight gens SOTC has released to over 90% meta. It ain’t a graphics thing. It’s a you thing.

neutralgamer19922647d ago

Skiggy

That's your problem you are looking and not playing. They improved controls too maybe read up next time before making yourself look like a fool

Trez12342647d ago

Improved control is one of main pillars and the rest of your comment sounds like you dont believe a game can look and play amazing.

Name me one of your favorite games and I'll show you how repetitive it is.

Pancit_Canton2647d ago

There's no hope or saving this guy. It's beyond too late.

IamTylerDurden12647d ago

SotC Remake is receiving 10's all over the place and it's actually a 93 Metacritic which is 2 points higher than the original PS2 release. Controls and performance are vastly improved with a locked 60 fps on Pro and 4 different control schemes. It's said to play better than ever.

You might want to use the platform you're currently using to obtain correct information before spouting nonsense.

I don't even know how to classify this type of trolling. Maybe this is a textbook example of what we could call "XBOTISM".

Yep its really is one of a kind.

Never played a game where I felt like completely transported into another fantastical world/atmosphere .

A game which despite how simple it was it was so complex.

A game where hardly anyone said anything but said so much

A game where you don't kill countless bad guys but still has amazing gameplay

A game where you kill the enemies but you feel the toll on you physically and emotionally

A game without cutscenes but it has full raw emotions in it similar to games like MGS.

A game with perhaps the greatest love story that was never told.

Respect

I'm really hoping they're working on a Ico remake!!!

PS2 Games That Hold Up Brilliantly

The PS2 is one of the most celebrated consoles of all time, and what makes it better is that a lot of its games have managed to age better than most.

Wayyy to many games to list but the first 3 that popped in my head.
1.Okami
2.ESPN NFL 2K5
3.GTA San Andreas

DarXyde151d ago

Good list, but I would replace Onimusha with a Onimusha 2.

Amplitude150d ago

Amplitude still holds up brilliantly

Agent75150d ago

I'd say Onimisha 2 and Turismo 4 was better. Maximo, Auto Modellista, Shox, Wipeout Fusion and pulse, Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution to name a few.

piroh157d ago

There's too many games to choose from

No Metal geat solid 1,2,3,4?
No Resident evil?
No Silent hill?
No Midnight club 3?
No NfS Underground 2?
No Final Fantasy?
No Burnout 3?
No Dragon quest 8?
No Days gone?
No Ace combat?
No Tekken/Soul calibur?......
just from the top of my head

PS1 era was full of great RPGs, PS2 was racing generation i would pick top 200 and even that would be just a fraction.

FinalFantasyFanatic156d ago

30 is way too low over the entire history of Playstation, I just wouldn't be able to narrow it down that much, I would pick 100 at least.

Storm23156d ago

Yeah...really odd list. I get that it is personal preference and I love most of the games listed, but my list would definitely be different. I agree though, it would be incredibly difficult to come up with just 30.

lockedongamer1156d ago (Edited 156d ago )

I only picked first-party titles. Otherwise, I agree!

EDIT: Except for Days Gone, I don't get the love for it but you do you!

Chocoburger147d ago

I didn't like Days Gone either, it doesn't deserve to be on any best of list.
