Xbox Game Pass is a service for Xbox One owners, but Aaron Greenberg confirms that members will be able to enjoy Play Anywhere titles on Windows 10.
Very nice i can now play the 1 or 2 xbox games i wanted to try this year on my PC for only £7.99 then cancel when finished them, it's a win win for me and every other pc owner.
Exactly. Even the fringe benefits of the service are enough to justify the price. That speaks volumes about how good the game pass is for Xbox owners, where so many more games are included in the same price. Hopefully the PC offering will grow over time as well.
The next step is to get all the Xbox games on steam
Wait...Am I missing something? Aren't 100% of all future Microsoft's published AAAs gonna be Play-Anywhere??? If that's the case, then you don't even need an Xbox to play Xbox's 2018 AAA exclusive line-up for $10
Uptownsoul, that's true about all Microsoft's future releases. However, the Game Pass also includes about 100 other games (at a time) that are not crossbuy, which is a big chunk of extra value for people with the console.
I know you r stealth trolling but from a business perspective they r now seeing revenue from a user they normal couldn't account for which is a huge win for xboxs future. Growing/ expanding revenue sources is the point 😂
Slavish you don't think revenue will drop when a large chunk of people who typically buy Forza halo gears or any other Xbox exclusive see they can play all those for $10 a month instead of $60 a pop
@Jukins: so you have options now! I know a lot of people that refuse digital or refuse subscriptions. They want to own. Options are good. This is a win for consumer period.
State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves, Crackdown 3, Halo 6, Ori and the wills of wisps, Age of Empire Remastered 1,2,3, Age of Empire 4, Forza Horizon 4 etc. seems like there's more than 2 games releasing in 2018
Most AoE games are remastered already. Halo 6 this year is unlikely
Ori isn't an Xbox game. It's coming to steam.
I said the 1 to 2 Microsoft games that i want to play. I have no interest in Driving and shooters. State Of Decay 2 and maybe Sea Of Thieves are the only 2 that interest me so far.
Even better make a new email address get the two weeks trial and cancel it towards end of term, rinse and repeat MS gets $0 gamers win.
The way I understood it was you have to have an Xbox to subscribe to Game Pass, then you can also play the game on PC if it supports play anywhere. In other words this won't work for any other PC owner only ones who own an Xbox and are willing to go through the Xbox store. Maybe I misunderstood but that is how I read it. EDIT: Found this on the PC games site "Because of this confusion, we reached out to Microsoft for comment. "The Xbox One and PC icons appear on the Xbox Game Pass description page because you can redeem on console, web and PC, however, Xbox Game Pass is only available on Xbox One consoles,” said a Microsoft spokesperson"
No you defiantly don't need a xbox. At the moment though only Gears Of War 4 and Recore are playable on PC through gamepass, yes if you also have a X1 you get access to the other 100+. But as of now every Microsoft 1st party game will be playanywhere and playable from PC in gamepass once they release. You can even sign up to the gamepass and download from your xbox account on PC. Aaron Greenberg has confirmed this on twitter also.
@GamesMaster1982: I didn't read that in the twitter link provided only that FP games were to be added and that they would be play anywhere. Their official site states it plainly that it only works on Xbox One consoles so if you are right MS needs to change their info. https://support.xbox.com/en...
im pretty sure you have to have xbox live to purchase the game pass
I can 100% confirm you don't need a X1 console i have joined the 2 week free trial gamepass by my xbox account on PC i don't own a X1 since 2 years ago. I am now downloading Gears of War 4 on my PC from the gamepass as we speak. Granted at the moment the only 2 games available to play via PC are Recore and Gears Of War 4 but as and when all the new X1 play anywhere titles arrive on the pass they will be playable also. So for the moment only the 2 games. But when the rest release if your PC can handle them like mine then there is absolutely no need for the X1 console at all.
Microsoft is using all their advantages
Niiiice. It already works, but I think this is the first time they've given an official position on it.
Good no need for Xbox definitely
Yeah just buy a $1000 PC rig and send your money to Microsoft so they can bolster Xbox even more for console users. Thanks!
How's that bolstering going for you so far?
@Unreal0 I have a lot of games to play
@343_Guilty_Spark Already have a good PC for working purposes and gaming also. 10$ to complete a just launched single player game, complete it to never pay again for it? without having to buy an Xbox? Sounds like an awesome deal to me :D Windows is way more important than Xbox anyway, only make sense they would bring their exclusives to Windows also. More revenue, more exclusives coming up! I'll probably buy Halo 6 via Play Anywhere on PC though, and the next Forza Horizon. Multiplayer games are the ones which purchasing the title would be better, depending on how much time you play it. I just hope they're not aiming for more MT/LootBoxes/DLCs/Season Pass to compensate. I seriously doubt they'll go this route.
How do you meant to play Xbox exclusives on PC if there's no Xbox? You need an Xbox account to play Xbox games on Windows 10 and Xbox One. Xbox is a service
How to sign in to the Xbox app on Windows 10 https://support.xbox.com/en... "If you don't have an Xbox Live account associated with the Microsoft account you used to sign in to Windows 10, the system will auto-generate a new gamertag for you. Upon acceptance, an Xbox profile, including gamertag, will be automatically assigned to your email. You can change your gamertag for free within the first 30 days."
@Razzer You've just proven my point
Actually, no. I answered your question: "How do you meant to play Xbox exclusives on PC if there's no Xbox?" You don't have to have an existing Xbox account to create one in Windows 10.
@Razzer Well you just need a "Microsoft account" and create an Xbox gamertag with it. You do need some kind of connection to the Xbox Platform, but at the core it's a microsoft account. Sounds better this way anyway, Windows is a way bigger platform overall than Xbox is.
You cant buy game pass without an xbox live subscription so more $$$ for microsoft
It's only available on the Xbox One consoles not PC. This has been confirmed by MS: From PC Games: Because of this confusion, we reached out to Microsoft for comment. "The Xbox One and PC icons appear on the Xbox Game Pass description page because you can redeem on console, web and PC, however, Xbox Game Pass is only available on Xbox One consoles,” said a Microsoft spokesperson
Yep. Glad they made it official.
Don't have a Xbox One, so Xbox Game Pass looks like a excellent deal for me as a PC/Win10 user.
You are out of luck Game Pass is only available on console. You can still purchase the game on the Win10 store but you can't take advantage of the Game Pass deal.
Do you realize that you can acquire Game Pass online? https://www.xbox.com/game-p...
@lelo2play: Can't seem to reply to you for some reason. Yes you can purchase online but you need an Xbox to use Game Pass https://support.xbox.com/en... From the Official Site: Can I use Xbox Game Pass on my Windows 10 PC? Xbox Game Pass can only be used on Xbox One consoles.
Game Pass alterations aren't still in effect. They will start with the release of Sea of Thieves. By then, Game Pass will be used on PC if you want to play the PC version of Microsoft Games Play Anywhere.
Have you got a link for that? I have gone through that Twitter feed and through the Xbox Game Pass site and I can't see that mentioned anywhere. Are you sure you aren't confusing play anywhere with game pass? The announcement says that game pass first party games will be available for play anywhere, so if you have a PC you will get a free copy to play on your PC. Nowhere do I see that you don't need an Xbox at all. They might be planning that for some time in the future but no where have I seen that you can get game pass and use it on your PC only, yes you can purchase it on your PC sure but I haven't seen that all you need is a PC. You might be right but a link would be good.
Exactly. That's the point...to bring the service to you. You aren't on an Xbox console...but you are on an Xbox enabled PC...in terms of GamePass, its the same $9.99 to share for both platforms or either or...this service opens up a lot for gamers in a lot of situations.
So it's official. You do not need an actual XBOX to play XBOX exclusives day and date. WOW.
They committed to supporting PC with future first party games ages ago. It’s about time considering the number of windows users out there who’d happily play a lot of these games but can’t justify a dedicated console (like myself). It’s a bargain of a subscription/service and a welcomed change to see the consumers being put first. Win win for end users.
Yeah it makes sense to hit bigger audiences, i dont see the problem with PC gamers getting access to Xbox titles. Services like this will drive down the price of games and people that cant afford to drop £50 on multiple games get a chance to play big titles at launch. Its very pro consumer, gamers should be happy about this.
Many PC gamers shun the Windows Store and want nothing to do with it including myself. It's an abysmal piece of software and should be scrapped and redesigned. The millions of PC gamers using Windows don't all use 10 and if they do they won't start using something that doesn't work properly for a couple of console ports. Even Age of Empires Remastered beta failed to get enough people to test the game due to it being on Windows Store. If Age of Empires failed to get PC gamers over to Win Store nothing will.
You do if the exclusives are not first party exclusives.
Pretty much all of MS exclusives are first party. Third party console exclusives will usually be on Steam too.
@Lon3wolf I just quickly looked at the total list of Xbox One games and the list of 3rd party exclusives..... Well it's quite short! can you list a few of them that are not available on PC?
@ZeroX It most probably is quite short, I didn't say otherwise so why would I need to make a list? I play plenty of 3rd party "exclusives" on PC that come from both PS4 and Xbox One (makes me wonder why I'm keeping my consoles tbh).
"You do not need an actual XBOX to play XBOX exclusives" You need an Xbox account to play Xbox games on Windows 10 PC
You don't need a Xbox to create a Xbox account so....
@Razzer Xbox is a service on PC just like Steam "Instead of just being a plastic box near the TV, the Xbox will also become an app; a service that fuses Microsoft's Xbox business and the Windows 10 operating system together." http://uk.businessinsider.c...
@Sonic Right. One less "plastic box" for me and other PC gamers.
You need a Microsoft account First and foremost and then link an Xbox Gamertag to it. I put more emphasis on the MS account, because we all know Windows is bigger and Xbox is only a small fraction, shouldn't be the other way around.
Perfect! 10 euro for one month and should be able to get through all the ones I want play/try in that month. Means I have to wait past release dates but small price to pay for such incredible value. Tbh I think it's too good to stay that way. What if everyone were to do that, whether on pc or Xbox?? If most gamers were to wait for all the first party games for the year to release and get them all completed in one month sub then cancel, how would that benefit Ms?? Meh, I'll let them worry about that and hope they don't change it before I get to play!
What interesting games Got play anywhere? I might try this service in future on my Pc.
Gears of War 4 and Recore are on Play Anywhere and Game Pass at the moment. I've glanced through both lists and those two seem to be the only ones currently. Play Anywhere list: https://www.windowscentral.... Game Pass list: https://www.gamespot.com/ar...
What happens when you stop paying? oh yeah that's right you can't play them the games anymore. and when you get the feeling of wanting to play them again a year or so down the line? that's right you won't pay even what seems like a cheap subscription because it will cost more than what the few old games are worth. What happens when you have three platforms or potentially more maybe Steam and others join this? are you going to pay for them all? Highly unlikely, its starting to look not very cheap for the consumer. So you will end up in a situation of jumping around services waiting for each subscription to cancel so you can pay to play on another service while your games are no longer accessible on the previous service. This would be a nightmare if you and your friends are moving around services. Sorry I can't play with you this month as I've committed to Microsoft's service and you have committed to Sony's. e.g. I can only afford one at a time. Good luck to those kids that get their subscription cancelled by their parents too.
You are overthinking this.
Buy the games you know you'll put lots of hours in and "subscribe" for the games that are shorter and after one play through you're done. I can now understand why MS wants to focus multiplayer games instead of single player, plus the increase in MT. It totally make sense with the way they're going in the future, keep them subscribed for multiplayer games and use the MT to gain extra revenues.
Xbox about to make a ton of money, you have known Xbox haters saying they're gonna subscribe.
Ok serious question. Can I subscribe on pc and play all the Xbox exclusives? Do I need a live subscription?
From the game Pass Site: "Do I have to have Gold? Members need an Xbox Live Gold subscription to access multiplayer features and functionality in Xbox Game Pass games (Gold membership sold separately). " So in other words you don't need gold unless you want to play multiplayer but you do need to have a subscription to live and an Xbox to use Game Pass. Here is a link to the MS Game Pass FAQ: https://support.xbox.com/en...
Comparing Game Pass to Netflix is folly because MS is talking about new games being released on Game Pass where as Netflix doesn't get BIG budget movies until they have made their profit from theaters and DVD sales. to totally different things because the movies have already made their profit and then they make a deal with Netflix to get that last drip of profit from a movie. because of this i don't see how third party devs will make a deal to release their AAA games on the Game Pass service at launch. so unless you are only into older games and the occasional xbox exclusive, cue the crickets, you won't have a service that will have any new AAA games to play. oh! and another thing, you can't complain when the quality of the xbox exclusives are mediocre when MS spends less money on their exclusives due to the cheap price of the service. in the end you get what you pay for.
