Piranha Bytes: ELEX To Run at Native 1800P on Xbox One X and Checkerboard 1800P on PS4 Pro

Piranha Bytes confirmed to Wccftech that ELEX now runs at native 1800P on Xbox One X thanks to its better hardware, while PS4 Pro's version has to use the checkerboard rendering technique.

The patches should go live on both consoles soon.

Not much of a difference on this one then.

TankCrossing2737d ago

Assuming that's the only difference, yes. They were directly asked about the rendering resolution, and they answered the question.

The original patch notes made no reference at all to the Xbox one x, so the clarification question was based on a misinterpretation in the first place.

Alexious2737d ago

It did, they just named Xbox One X "Xbox" for short in the patch notes. But they were referring to the X.

TankCrossing2737d ago (Edited 2737d ago )

Look at the patch notes from the dev rather than the article that jumped the gun. It really doesn't read as being anything to do with the X. The game isn't even X enhanced yet.

I have no idea what the resolution on the base Xbox is, but think it is getting a small boost in this patch.

Of course I could be wrong. First time for everything eh? ;)

Alexious2737d ago

I am looking at the patch notes. I've copied them from the press release. Those are the Xbox One X enhancements coming with the patch which, as you can read in this article, is not yet live. That's why it doesn't register as X enhanced yet on Xbox Live.

TankCrossing2737d ago

Looking at them again, the line about the 1080p display would be a bit odd to say about the normal Xbox.

I think I'm probably mistaken then. Not gonna lie, it hurts a little!

Shh, you're gonna trigger the fanboys. Don't you know "Da Beast" is super powerful??

KaiPow2737d ago

Shame they can't include a resolution target with the resolution bump.

DarXyde2736d ago

Honestly, I love these moments when neither console is hitting 4K. The conversation has gotten a bit out of hand and it feels good to have everyone humbled. Where do you go from here?

"Haha, your console isn't 4K!"

"Neither is yours!"

"At least mine is native not-4K! Yours is checkerboard not-4K!"

I'll take these moments in stride. So the question I wanna ask is what is the frame rate? If the resolution isn't 4K on One X and checkerboards with FXAA on Pro, surely they made that compromise for stability? I'm assuming a steady 30fps, unless they really wanted 60.

Alexious2736d ago

Yes, it's probably running at a more stable 30FPS on those platforms. 60FPS is very troublesome in big open world games due to the CPU.

letsa_go2736d ago

It is funny because just a year or two ago, the xbox fanboys were saying that no one could tell the difference between 900p vs 1080p unless you screenshotted and counted the pixels. How it was the same game, and it didn't hurt their enjoyment. Now all of a sudden they can see the difference between these super high resolutions. It cracks me up how much the narrative changed in a few years! Now the switch fanboys stole the xbox fanboy's argument. hahah

DrumBeat2736d ago

So, the only 'cool' people in this soiree are the PS4 fanboys? Lol.

LateNightThirst2736d ago

Works for both ends, PS4 fanboys used to claim now blurry the One version looked on games and now the One X runs games often at much higher resolution. When the reality is there is always a difference in fidelity when resolutions are different, one will be blurrier the other sharper

letsa_go2736d ago

@DrumBeat, nope! Only the GTX 1080ti fanboys. :)

LP-Eleven2736d ago

Pro owners hardly ever argued for "Native 4K". We know who the culprits have been. I'm fine when neither console hits 4K too, but I won't pretend that it's been an even narrative for it across the board.

That said, 1800p vs Checkerboard 1800p. A minor difference in res, so I wonder what the individual graphical differences will be.

DARK_WOLF2736d ago (Edited 2736d ago )

Checkerboard is every 2nd pixel is rendered no?? So the X is twice the native pixels being rendered. Big difference especially in motion

LP-Eleven2736d ago (Edited 2736d ago )

@ DARK: It's noticeable, but it's not big. Do the math very closely. You won't notice it like, let's say, 720p vs 1080p, where the difference is massive.

zivtheawesome2736d ago

reading through this the ps4pro solution is actually pretty great! while that the ps4pro cuts corners in the resolution by applying checkerboard, it compensates by using TAA and FXAA while that the One X that runs at native 1800p only uses FXAA.

InKnight7s2736d ago

I thought X1X is the only native real 4k console.

Professor_K2736d ago

Isn't the alternate supposed to reach at least dynamic 4k?

Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Review

A handful of small redesigns and a pair of back buttons make Nintendo’s Pro Controller for Switch 2 a worthy upgrade.

I love this controller. Feels so nice in the hand. Plus the battery lasts for days, it's crazy.

peppeaccardo1d 10h ago

$100 ?????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????????? ???????????????

1nsomniac1d 9h ago

Yea the pricing for Nintendo peripherals is a bigger joke than the game prices. What the hell were they thinking!

peppeaccardo1d ago

i mean for a piece of slightly redesigned plastic with the same take of the last few years this has written GREED all over it ! Shame on Nintendo.

OMNlPOTENT20h ago

It's $85. The standard Dualsense is $75. The Dualsense Edge (Playstation Pro controller) is $200. The Xbox Elite (Xbox Pro controller) is also $200. How exactly is $85 so drastically insane compared to those prices?

Neonridr19h ago

the battery lasts like 10 times as long as a dualsense though.

Stevonidas14h ago

Not true; more like 20.

You may commence with your butthurt, ponies.

fsfsxii12h ago

It doesn't have analogue tho, sooo....

Tacoboto13h ago

$85 USD
or $75 at CostCo (same standard price as a DualSense)

Even at $85, you're getting 3-4x the battery life of a DualSense, and it is (by a HUGE margin) the cheapest first-party console controller with Back Paddles.

The thing is, over the past decade, third-party controllers have really stepped up. You can often get better quality, more durability, and stronger performance for half the price of first-party options. Meanwhile, controllers from Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft have become increasingly mediocre, expensive, fragile, and not particularly impressive across the board. What makes this especially noticeable with Nintendo is that they’re surprisingly open to third-party hardware. That openness ends up highlighting just how much better the alternatives are.

Chard1d 8h ago

Name a better controller

Vits1d 4h ago

Pretty much most things by half a dozen of chinese manufactures. Like, 8bitdo, Gamesir, Machenike, Gulikit, Flydigi, Manba, EasySMX, etc.

The exception would be really low tier stuff by those companies... those wouldn't be better, they would be about the same quality. But more durable.

Themba761d 7h ago

Best controller I’ve ever used I even like more than my dual sense edge

UltimateOwnage23h ago(Edited 23h ago)

Having used Dual Sense, Pro Controller 1, and 8BitDo Ultimate extensively, I am pretty much in love with Pro Controller 2. The easy reassignment on the grip buttons is such a big plus, but the soft edge joysticks are the best feeling sticks of any controller I’ve ever used. It’s really an awesome controller. The HD Rumble 2 also finally has some thud and the headphone jack is great with a pair of good phones. It’s worth the slight price increase IMO.

Profchaos18h ago

The pro controller 2 for me has the best weight and size it fits the hand perfect like the duelshock 4 did imo

I actually dislike the duelsense controller because of its size but the features are amazing on it.

Still as for the pro 2 no analog triggers is surprisingly something I dont actually miss

PRIMORDUS1d 5h ago

I have the original pro controller and TBH, I don't use it as much. I'm mostly using the Switch in handheld mode with the Hori Split Pad Compact Controller. I also never use the back buttons to program anything so I will not be buying this one here, so that will be $85.00 in my pocket 😂

Very good dev length for a AAA/AA game I'd say. Companies need to set an aim for this range. 1-2 is too little, I believe 3-4 is perfect. Any more is too much. Games don't need to be these gigantic games full of a crazy amount of content. Just make a good game.

Skate-AK1d 21h ago

Lol. Had no idea who that was, but I will admit they do look quite similar.

Hideo Kojima calls Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 “ideal” for one key reason

Legendary gaming auteur Hideo Kojima heaped praise on Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, calling it “ideal” for one significant reason.

gigoran82d ago

Greatness knows greatness. Simple as that. Expedition 33 is a masterpiece, built with a smaller team and with a smaller budget, blowing ubisoft out of the water. It doesn't matter how many devs you have and how much money you throw at it, great studios like Sandfall Interactive will always overcome you.

PrecursorOrb1d 14h ago

Kojima states the obvious lol

mastershredder1d 12h ago (Edited 1d 12h ago )

Ideal are you opinions being vacant from any discussion that is not about your own cringy universe Hideo.

The master of Vanity Tech Demos is here to tell us what a good game is. ooooh kay. It's pretty dang obvious without your 2 cents desperately needing relevance. This is just like his GTA grovel a while back. Yuck.

gold_drake1d 12h ago

quite honestly, i havent been able to stop thinking about it ha.

i keep playing it
