Convincing your parents to buy you a new console can be a harrowing and challenging mission. They’re all “You’re 41, buy it yourself,” but that’s easier said than done. It sucks but don’t panic, there’s a few simple and effective ways to convince your folks that a Nintendo Switch is a worthy purchase.
Hogwarts Legacy has remained in first place on the UK retail charts, according to GfK data for the week ending April 19, 2025.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, following the release of the PS5 version, came in second place.
Astro Bot dropped one spot to third place, while Monster Hunter Wilds remained in fourth place. Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate is up one spot to fifth place and EA Sports FC 25 is up six spots to sixth place.
Playstation owners buy games.
Strange seeing Hogwarts there as I downloaded it for my son from PS Plus a couple of days ago.
The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console worldwide with 1,137,164 units sold for March 2025, according to VGChartz estimates. The PlayStation 5 has now sold an estimated 75.28 million units lifetime worldwide.
The Nintendo Switch sold an estimated 547,216 units to bring its lifetime sales to 150.25 million units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 263,531 units to bring their lifetime sales to 32.73 million units.
Year-on-year so far:
PS5
• Jan. -31%
• Feb. -7%
• Mar. -11.1%
X|S
• Jan. -48%
• Feb. -21%
• Mar. -27.5%
Funny how the console with 'no games' outsells its key competitor by nearly 1 million units.
This peripheral is ghostly good.

How to convince yourself to get a job to get a Switch yourself
I mean this works if you're under 14, and still live with and rely on mommy and daddy, sure lol
"Parents don’t want you owning a console because it’s too distracting from life and games these days are too violent and provocative."
This isn't the 90s, so chances are likely they play too nowadays. They should understand. If they don't then convince your grandparents.
"The Switch also has the advantage of its parental control system."
Get real! You know you wouldn't tell them.
"Continue to play without interfering with family time or reducing the quality of your experience thanks to the Switch’s hybrid design."
Most people have 2 or more televisions nowadays, so this is a dead argument.
"You already own a Nintendo 3DS and your parents aren’t convinced it’s worth replacing."
Okay, you've lost. You either need to get a job, start doing chores, or start convincing others you're adopted.
As for the cost and long term, your parents should know because they've play(ed) too and they bought you that 3DS, so they know how your mind works. "Better this than drugs," they'll say.
Their software line up hasn't convince me yet.
