Following the announcement of Valkyria Chronicles 4, the western arm of Sega sent in a press release with the first screenshots, artwork and detailed info.
the turn-based strategy system returns! I want to digress a bit, this is what I was talking about when I said in another story that Switch+PS4 will combine to make a large install base for Japanese games. it encourages risks like this. franchise was in hiatus a long time and SEGA didn't think it was worth the financial risk but since Switch,Xbox and PS4 use standard PC architecture the game can be developed for all platforms and target the combined market under one budget, the only real extra work they have to do is bug testing and very little re-coding. it's not like the PS3/360 generation where games had to be developed for each platform from the ground up. maybe there is a chance for the return of Suikoden now.
Xbox is starting to get a lot of Japanese love too.Who would have thunk?
at least they returned back to WW 2 aesthetics /concept and not that ridiculous Spin Off cheap RPG sht ....lets wait to see the final result
I know it makes no sense since the base doesn't support their work and no one wants to spend time and money working or something that the community is going to reducible and treat like a tool, not to be played but brought up in community forums to make points that don't exist.
@newmonday, how was this franchise in hiatus for a long time when it had a Ps3 release and Ps4 remaster? Long hiatus would be if it came out in the saturn era and only NOW making a return. On topic, I just picked up the PS3 version for cheap at GS recently. I like it. Looking forward to this one.
Suikoden would be awesome, but Konami doesn't care about making games anymore.
more 3rd party for switch.....its getting boring now, knowing a whole bunch of games coming for switch, jus post release dates
Outside of indie games, the switch hardly got any 3rd party games this year.
who talking about this year.....the year about to end......this article said next year, and a lot of developers said they would have something coming next year, 2018 will be a great year
Notice how her eyes are Blue? Yes!!!. My top 2 game from last gen behind Demon Souls.
I am delighted this game is coming to Xbox and Switch.
This is exciting, glad that this series is back
As I look at this game, it looks like they've mostly kept elements of their CANVAS Engine the same. Don't be surprised if the enhanced consoles don't offer any visual benefits, which is fine by me. The PS3 game is still beautiful. If they can use that to ensure 60fps, I'd be absolutely delighted. I've bought every entry (Azure Revolution withstanding) and can't wait for this one! Even bought the first one again on PS4 to play at 60fps. Really hoping it's not just digital or Japan only. Not that either of those things would stop me. Region-free, son. Just need to get funds in the form of yen if I MUST import it. Totally not skipping Valkyria Chronicles.
I was just about to say the same thing this looks literally exactly like the PlayStation 3 version which I'm actually okay with.
Definitely. It's a beautiful game regardless. With that in mind, I might be genuinely surprised if this game isn't 4k/60fps on Pro. The only way I see this *possibly* being an issue is if it can hit 4k/30fps. I'm not sure Sony would allow that and that's something that maybe you can clarify for me, _-EDMIX-_ (or anyone who knows the answer). Let's say the base PS4 version is 1080p/60fps. Would Sony allow the game to run at 4k/30fps, assuming Pro would struggle to do so? I ask because they mentioned that, for Pro-enhanced titles, games must perform at least as well as base PS4. The resolution would see a 400% boost, but, assuming 60fps at 4k is not possible, that also means the frame rate would take a 50% dip. So what I'm asking is...if the resolution increases but frame rate decreases, can it be released like that? I don't own a Pro, I'm just genuinely curious about what Sony would allow.
I kind of understand what you're saying but technically speaking that would be up to Sega not Sony. I don't really see 4K 60 frames as being impossible on such a game. At the end of the day I actually believe it is developer dependent ie a game developer decides simply understand that it is their game so if they're play testing it and they realize they have a performance issue with certain settings they would be the ones to make that call. I actually think it would be wrong for Sony or Microsoft to have any prerequisites that are Ironclad that could negatively affect the final product like forcing a developer to use settings that don't technically support their game well. 60 frames 4K I believe is the settings that both companies want but only if it's achievable with smooth gameplay I don't think they mean it like "60 frames 4K no matter what the sacrifice" etc I actually think that is a huge misconception that a lot of the community seems to be confused about. Trust me I'm 100% positive it is not 60 frames 4K Ironclad anything goes regardless of performance or sacrifice lol
This is awesome 😊 Of course now Il fidget knowing there's a 2 and 3 in the series.
Sweet! Hopefully enhanced for Xbox One X too.
Really glad they are going back to the turn-based phase. I'm also glad that the similar painted brush art-style ahs returned from the first game as well. This is such good news. HOWEVER, I am very sad that no PC version wasn't mentioned, even if the PC version releases later down the road after consoles. It would still be very nice if they just announced the PC version anyways for the Western audience.
A PROPER Valkyria!!! WOO HOO!!
Yes... http://a.fod4.com/misc/swan... So thrilled about this news. I’m glad to see it on more platforms, and while it’s a tough choice between PS4 and Switch, I think I’ll go with Switch. Regardless, this is very exciting news.
Awesome... although another game taking place around the same timeframe as VC1 is repetitive. VC3 did that too. Still, excited for this.
I can't wait to pick up this art book as well.
No [email protected]&$&@& way!!!!! This is amazing!!!!!!
Lol right? Great news to wake up to! Those screenshots look exactly like what I wanted to see. That last release was so frustrating for me. While I didn’t buy it, I just hated seeing them take what was such a special series and make that action game with the unattractive art style. This looks to be a return to form.
Good to see Sega taking a chance with consoles again for this game. Will definitely buy it to show support and hopefully many more games like this will make a comeback to consoles.
I guess I finally have an excuse to play 2 and 3.
Love they are back to turn based action my all time favorite. Another Day 1 for my PS4.
