The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR Review I UploadVR

For a game that wasn’t originally designed for VR at all and has been ported first to the least powerful of the big three VR platforms in the PSVR, Skyrim VR is nothing short of impressive. This really is the Skyrim that you know and love, but now you can enjoy it like never before with the immersive presence of a VR headset. With a large variety of control schemes to choose from and hundreds of hours of content, this is a game that all RPG fans should play as long as you can look past the sometimes glaring issues. And if you don’t own a PSVR yet, luckily there’s a new Skyrim VR bundle with your name on it.

I'm a couple hours in. It's pretty amazing!

JaguarEvolved2145d ago (Edited 2145d ago )

Have you tried the oculus rift and if so which do you think is better? I've been hearing some good things about psvr but I don't want to buy it and not like it. I'd like to try Skyrim and gt sport in vr

ibrake4naps2145d ago

I haven't tried oculus, but if I had a good computer I would of went that route. As is, I love my psvr though

JaguarEvolved2145d ago

The psvr is getting a lot of support but I want to know more about the viewing quality vs oculus rift. Paris games week showing makes me know Sony is proper supporting the psvr with games but I'd like to know which vr unit I should buy.

ibrake4naps2145d ago

The psvr has a lower pixel count screen, but a higher sub-pixel. The Oculus is a higher spec headset, that is better against the dreaded screen door effect. But it's impressive what the psvr can do on an aging console, and it is getting better support than it was. I've owned mine since day 1, and it's still amazing, doesn't feel like a gimmick, it trully does put you in the game!

JaguarEvolved2145d ago

I see some awesome deals for the psvr so I think I'll buy one very soon. I'm just hoping it's amazing like some people say it is even though it's inferior to the oculus rift. I really like that it has a lot of games support and a lot more coming. I just really hope I like it and that I'm not wasting money on a peripheral hyped up by fanatics. Ill buy resident evil 7 again for ps4 even though I already own it for the pc because a lot of people say it's best played in vr.

G20WLY2145d ago

I've actually heard that the screen door effect is better on PSVR because of the subpixels..🤔

The max refresh rate on PSVR is also better than Vive or Rift, at 120, but the resolution in both those headsets beats PSVR. Almost all the best games are on (or are currently being ported to) PSVR, so generally, the quality is good game wise too, even if some are on the short side.

Finally, people with Vive/Rift say tracking is better there than PSVR, but I can't verify. I can say I've had no trouble with mine and RE7 is indeed awesome on it. It's easy to be blasé when playing horror games on flat screen, but the slightest thing gets you nervy in VR! 😂

Looks like Skyrim VR is getting decent reviews. Yes, PSVR isn't perfect. But gamers have gotten past the limitations because of the excellent immersion of VR.

Trying to figure out if I should just take the plunge now or wait and see if there's a sale this month or next. Since Moss, Bravo Team and The Inpatient are pushed to next year, this and Doom are my only choices. Decisions...

PSVR will be 199 next week... I said hold off... I got mine last year top dollar ended up spending around 1k for all the games i wanted the VR etc. etc. if i knew then what i know now i would wait until next week.

ApocalypseShadow2144d ago (Edited 2144d ago )

Hey chef. You might have misunderstood. I got PSVR at launch but not sure yet if I should buy Skyrim for $60. I stopped buying games at launch like when I was younger. Saves a whole lot of money for bills, trips, food and plenty of games that are discounted.

Like when Sony had the anniversary for PSVR, I bought even more games for cheap. Since I buy and play single player games over multiplayer, there's no rush to get online before lobbies lose player counts. And GoftY copies usually have everything included for $20 or less.

C-H-E-F2144d ago

ahh okay, I thought you were saying you're not sure if you should get the VR and Skyrim (take the plunge) gotcha, but yeah i'm going to wait to see what deals are out. I only buy PSE's at full price because I know i'm going to get my bang for my buck. for example, I bought Horizon "Amazon Prime" 47.99 and played to date about 80 hours and I still have gotten to the DLC yet taking a break before I start that just got the platinum on Saturday. But yeah I bought Skyrim 2 times already, (ps3 & ps4) i'm def. going to get this for like 30$ if anything.

Skankinruby2145d ago

Think I'm gonna finally pull the trigger on buying vr, hope more full length games support it like this

BABY-JEDI2145d ago

I really wasn’t planning on getting this. Some really bad reviews of the demo. But the visua & control scheme options have turned it around (hate teleportation). This has turned into a PSVR must buy 😉

G20WLY2145d ago

Same. Soon as I saw you can control it exactly the same way you can on regular PS4, I was SOLD!!

Modder wires ChatGPT into Skyrim VR so NPCs can roleplay and remember past conversations

The chats with these Skyrim characters using ChatGPT are pretty clunky, but it's hard not to see some potential there, too.

XiNatsuDragnel158d ago

Nice stuff molders revolutionizing interactions already.

jonny897158d ago

Just a fun experiment that's all, inaccuracies will ruin games

Number1TailzFan158d ago

OpenAI developers are trying to tune & further enhance accuracy.

What will be most interesting is when they show off their NEO robot that they're working on with 1x robotics this summer that has GPT4. Could be the first time we get robots that are useful for the home.

XbladeTeddy157d ago

It's about the potential. You won't be saying that 5 or 10 years from now.

generic-user-name157d ago

At the speed AI is going, more like 5-10 months.

SullysCigar158d ago

Oh good, just what we need - woke NPCs lol

BrainSyphoned158d ago

It's not any different than the current batch of devs out there though, I'll have no issues watching them be replaced.

jznrpg157d ago

There’s so much negativity on the internet if you don’t restrict their access it becomes very negative .

SullysCigar157d ago

Yeah, that's what I mean. Algorithms are picking up trends, particular sources, 'preferred' narratives, etc., which is all evident from the testing people have done. ChatGPT even has political preferences, apparently lol

Check out my Disagree Fairly, btw! He's got the proper hump with me! I'm enjoying his attention, but it makes me a little sad that he hasn't quite gone the whole hog and given me 100 disagrees yet. That would be special :^)
