The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR Review – The Worst Way To Experience Skyrim | Game Informer

Skyrim was not a game designed for virtual reality, and it doesn’t take long to come to that conclusion.

Another VR low score due to the reviewer getting motion sick... This game is one of the easiest VR games to start with, I've seen people doing 12 hours, launch day, marathons and no problems whatsoever...
Why do people that can't handle VR keep making reviews of VR games?!
It's like me reviewing an mmo, get ready for 3/10, or less, because I hate the genre.
I'm loving being in this world in VR, it's a game changer. If you own a psvr headset this is a must buy.
Edit: it's still a bugthesda game so be ready for it lol

Nice trolling, now under the bridge you go, that's a good boy...

VR needs at least 90 fps to eliminate enough input lag to not make your brain upset. Best practices dictate that 120 fps is ideal. 30 fps is a disaster in vr as the lag and judder will make even th strongest people sick (and did w/ DriveClub vr) for that reason. 60 is better but people will still have problems.

vr tech isn’t there yet for consoles and even pc vr while being the best could be better still. Psvr only proves that with mostly small experiences, pared back graphics and reviews like this (it’s not the only one). and on the pc side the cost of a machine to do it right is still pretty expensive (even for me and I’m a good consumer). And just so you know I build vr media and post production sometimes even for video games (worked on monkey king on psvr for example).

Dario_DC2763d ago (Edited 2763d ago )

Another one that never tried PSVR.... There are NO 30FPS games on PSVR it's either 60FPS or more.
All games run at 60 or over, including Driveclub.
What makes people sick is the ilusion of movement, in VR your brain registers movement but your body isn't moving at all, there's a disconnect between both. To more sensible peeps it can cause motion sickness, like being on a boat.
Stop commenting on something you know nothing about.

The reviewer brought up all sorts of points about why they didn't like it. Ugly visuals, bugs that exist from previous versions of the game. The VR movement is only one part of it, and the reviewer was up front saying that VR in general makes them sick, however Skyrim was much worse for them.

Problem is, VR sickness is a common thing. I would say 90+% of people do not just put on a VR headset the first few times and away they go for 10 hour gaming sessions with no side effects. That sort of thing is extremely rare. So motion sickness is to be expected the first several times you use the thing while your brain gets used to the disconnect. Perfectly normal.

I am in no way saying this is a bad version, I will wait until I can get it on my PC instead since I prefer VR on my PC over my PSVR when I have the choice. More stable and better tracking (not necessarily a fault of PSVR, just something we have to live with).

subtenko2763d ago

I dont like dizzy rides, and I dont like reading or playing games in the car.....But I dont get sick with VR..... at least not PSVR. Sony has standards to make it the best experience it can be. When I watch videos made for 3D movement around all axis, its smooth, but when I watch some vr video made in some app to view with google card board, yea you start feeling a little something

Neonridr2763d ago

@subtenko - is this using teleportation movement? Or natural locomotion that you feel fine with?

Dario_DC2763d ago

I have a Pro and the visuals look good, it's not 4k and never will but it looks clean.
Games from Bethesda are always buggy, no matter what.

There are no tracking issues if you set up your psvr right, just look at psvrfank's tutorial videos for how to.

Also, skyrim is too slow to actually make you any type of motion sick, this reviewer is just too sensitive to movement in VR. I can only imagine what games like Rigs would do to him...
I use full locomotion, with none of the fov aids on, and just did 5 hours of gaming straight with no problems.

Neonridr2762d ago

@Dario_DC - yes, but what works for you won't necessarily work for the next person. I don't suffer from motion sickness normally, but when I first started using my Rift last year I suffered from some motion sickness for sure. It was just that strange feeling in the pit of your stomach that something doesn't feel right. I eventually got over it with some time and practice, but some games affected me more than others. I agree that Skyrim is a pretty slow game, but for some people, just that disconnect between walking in game but standing / sitting still in real life is enough to throw people off.

I have a Pro as well, and while it might help, the headset is hampered by the resolution it is at. Just something we have to deal with first gen VR sadly. I have no doubt that it will get better for future versions.

Tracking is hit and miss with PSVR. Some games work fine, others are a hot mess. Usually it comes down to whether or not you turn around, since facing away from the camera is a faux pas. Hence why Farpoint was created so that all enemies stay in front of you, to help combat that very issue.

Lol
No way this games is a 5.
The More i play the more I fall in love with skyrim all over again.

This game made me jump with the creepy dungeons.
One of the best VR games with tons of content.

Must buy for PSVR owners.

ibrake4naps2764d ago

One of my favorite VR games, and in my top five games of the year!

Profchaos2764d ago

Basically this review dragged the metacritic score down because the reviewer doesn't like VR and frequently complains about it. Maybe he should not be the one reviewing the game

Rangerman12082764d ago

Funny. Most sites like UploadVR and Push Square really liked the VR port.

ecchiless2763d ago

And vrfocus a site that, be prepare to be shocked, specialise in vr find the game 5/5.

Modder wires ChatGPT into Skyrim VR so NPCs can roleplay and remember past conversations

The chats with these Skyrim characters using ChatGPT are pretty clunky, but it's hard not to see some potential there, too.

XiNatsuDragnel777d ago

Nice stuff molders revolutionizing interactions already.

jonny897777d ago

Just a fun experiment that's all, inaccuracies will ruin games

ZycoFox776d ago

OpenAI developers are trying to tune & further enhance accuracy.

What will be most interesting is when they show off their NEO robot that they're working on with 1x robotics this summer that has GPT4. Could be the first time we get robots that are useful for the home.

XbladeTeddy776d ago

It's about the potential. You won't be saying that 5 or 10 years from now.

generic-user-name775d ago

At the speed AI is going, more like 5-10 months.

SullysCigar777d ago

Oh good, just what we need - woke NPCs lol

BrainSyphoned776d ago

It's not any different than the current batch of devs out there though, I'll have no issues watching them be replaced.

jznrpg776d ago

There’s so much negativity on the internet if you don’t restrict their access it becomes very negative .

SullysCigar775d ago

Yeah, that's what I mean. Algorithms are picking up trends, particular sources, 'preferred' narratives, etc., which is all evident from the testing people have done. ChatGPT even has political preferences, apparently lol

Check out my Disagree Fairly, btw! He's got the proper hump with me! I'm enjoying his attention, but it makes me a little sad that he hasn't quite gone the whole hog and given me 100 disagrees yet. That would be special :^)

Inverno776d ago

Radiant AI is something I wish Bethesda would greatly improve on. It was fascinating watching npcs in Oblivion conversing, trash talking each other, and replicating human behavior in their own awkward way.

Ashunderfire86776d ago

Red Dead Redemption 2 does that way better though.

Inverno776d ago

Haven't gotten around to playing that. I get so disappointed with open world games.

FinalFantasyFanatic776d ago

I missed out on Red Dead during the last Steam sale, oh well, next sale I guess.

anast776d ago

This is going to be insane in the future.

Snookies12776d ago

Can't wait to see how this all turns out! AI is in it's infancy right now, and it's already very intriguing to see the results in these early days. It's slightly terrifying, but also largely fascinating to see unfold.

anast775d ago

I feel the same way. I'm going to ride the wave.

FinalFantasyFanatic776d ago

I can just imagine the unique experiences you'd have and share with your friends, as well as the hilarious jank that could also result from it.

anast775d ago

NPCs are going to be on another level, for sure.
