17.8GB, just make it a headline. Hate articles like this.

That's what happens when a site lacks quality journalism, but still needs clicks..

Jon_Targaryen2726d ago

Give or take the same size as the last gen version.. What a shocker!!!!

sloth33952725d ago

why is it bigger on the Switch at 27GB

pietro12122725d ago

I'm wondering the same thing

Eonjay2725d ago

If I had to guess. I would say it has something to do with compression.

nitus102725d ago (Edited 2725d ago )

Possibly.

When downloading a file by digital download the file may be compressed to reduce the download size, however, once the file is downloaded it may be uncompressed thereby increasing it's overall installed file size. Of course, there may be some data that is left in a compressed state in storage such that it can be uncompressed and compressed (depends on what the data is used for) from storage to memory and vice-versa.

If the above compression and decompression technique is done on game data (ie. assists) then a process has to do that and that process takes up resources on the computer to the point where it may reduce the game's performance. If this is the case then assets may need to be fully uncompressed or use a less efficient compression algorithm which increases the storage space. http://www.linktionary.com/...

Note. In the case of LA Noire, the above may explain the difference in install file sizes between the Switches version and the PS4's version.

BTW. The XB1 install size for LA Noire is 17.08GB which is very similar in size to the PS4 version.

As an example say I have a 300MB video file in 8bit H264 format. Now I take that video file and pass it through a converter to make it 8bit H265 format which should compress that file to between 40% and 70% of its original size.

Playing the original file will take up a certain amount of resources on your computer but playing back the newly formatted but much smaller file will take up considerably more resources on your computer.

Basically, compression can be a blessing and a curse since it depends on what resources your computer can efficiently handle.

bad compression of files on the switch it seems.

I both agree and disagree with this one I think the best answer is "It depends". See my previous post.

Smaller than the Switch file size

Hopefully McNamara is as far away from this as possible he set up shop in Australia then did nothing but complain about Australian labour laws while trying to make his workers live at the office working 24/7 on la noire punishing them for leaving at 3 am and being 10 minutes late to work at 9am the next day.

It's astonishing that none of the workers went to the fair work ombudsman as the studio would have been fined astronomical numbers

Brendan McNamara is a brilliant writer and director but he should never, ever be in charge of a studio. What he did to those devs was far beyond "crunch", and it went on for, what, 7 years? That's insane.

But I'm glad to see some of that team have come together again to create something new. A psychological thriller sounds right up my alley.

I would have liked to see a new noir game.
