Doom Nintendo Switch vs Xbox One X Graphics Comparison

Doom for Nintendo Switch has arrived and it looks really good on that small console. Let’s compare it to original running on Xbox One X. Can you spot all the differences?

I don’t see the merit in comparing the Xbox One X edition with the Nintendo Switch version because there will be very few gamers who will be trying to decide out of the two which version to buy.

This is more of an exercise in underlining the power of the Xbox One X to Xbox fans.

It is good to see the power difference but they are two different products. Switch deliberately less powerful because it’s portable.

This is a point I will continue to iterate time and time again. People find technology interesting. People enjoy seeing how a game looks across multiple platforms regardless of if they’ll ever play the game at all or even own the platform that has the best version. TECHNOLOGY IS INTERESTING TO PEOPLE. I don’t game on pc, but I still love seeing graphics comparisons of games across multiple platforms, including pc because seeing how the same game scales across multiple sets of hardware is genuinely interesting to me. God forbid someone just enjoys comparisons of tech.

Wow with SWITCH doing that good against the x1x I would like to see how it looks against the original xbox one. x1x looked better but SWITCH looked WAY better than the haters lead us to believe.

Same dilemma...I'll probably get it for the switch as opposed to the X because this game seems to be a pushing it to its limits. Kind of a showcase for it. Also, would be a good game to play on the go.

Switch version holds up damn well. I was disappointed to see reviewers lower review scores significantly because of the switches limitations though. Why punish the game for something we always knew the system couldn't do?

A bit, not completely. I think that considering the hardware it's running on, the Switch version of Doom is quite impressive, but let's not kid ourselves. The difference is still very noticeable. It's running at a lower resolution, and with less effects, and with muddy textures. Even taking all of this into account, the graphical downgrade doesn't seem to impact the actual game much, but it's still there.

But we can't ignore the fact that the framerate was also cut in half, and THAT is the real compromise here, because it does affects gameplay. 30 FPS looks and feels very different from 60 fps, and there's no way around that. According to reviews, it's still serviceable and playable, but it's still all around a serious compromise in exchange of portability.

I still think it's pretty impressive to have Doom running on Switch, it being a small tablet and all. But a lot of credit also goes to the scalability of the game engine and the talent of the people that worked on that port. I don't expect to see something like Middle Earth: Shadow of War running properly on Switch, for example (although it would be awesome if it happened, for sure).

Folks with common sense knows that Doom will look clearer/better on the X compared to the Switch but for an on the go portable handheld Doom looks pretty good.
