For 8 months running, Nintendo Switch users have had to worry about losing everything

This continues to be a bad look for Nintendo. Nintendo's latest console celebrates its eight-month birthday on Friday. That means for the past eight months, fans have had to keep a nagging fear at bay every time they power the machine on: Will this be the day my 100-plus hours of Zelda progress disappears?

It defies reason that in 2017 there’s this online-connected device equipped with a microSD expansion slot, and yet there's no way for paying customers to protect their data.

The latest Switch update added the ability to transfer accounts from one console to another, save data and all. That doesn't help you in cases of hardware failure, or when a loved one accidentally deletes one of your saves, but it's at least now possible to move your data around — sort of — without having to send your Switch back to Nintendo for service.

do people really think about this sort of stuff? I just take care of my Switch and play the games. If it was to happen that the hardware broke and I lost my data, then so be it. But I don't sit up at night praying for cloud saving or anything like that. It'll come.

Yes, I do really think about this sort of stuff. I love my Switch, I've had it since day one, and I take good care of it, but it's still more subject to damage than stationary home consoles due to its portability. It could also get stolen.

So, yup, having cloud saves from day one, among other things, would've been nice.

I agree with what you are saying, but the likelihood that anything is going to happen is pretty slim. Of course it would be a nice feature to have, and more than likely we all know it's coming. I just meant I am not going through each day praying to myself that my Switch doesn't brick. I just play it.

It never really entered my mind until my young son became hysterical after losing his Zelda save. The lack of duplicate saves or ability to back up is ridiculous. Years ago I had an Xbox 360, which I sold. Then with the Xbox One I started playing Gears judgement, which I had never finished. My original 360 save was still in place and I could pick up where I left off. It wasn't until this point that I realised how great cloud saves were. It would be great for Nintendo to implement this feature, particularly when they start charging for online features.

TBH, I've never worried about Cloud Saves until I actually needed it, so it's become a more important feature for me. I don't want to waste the 30 to 60 hours I spend on a game.

I’m with you but I also don’t have the hundreds of hours that others do. If my Zelda save files gets erased it’s annoying but it’s a good excuse to start fresh

So accidents happen. You should be able to transfer data

Shallow minded thinking nothing will happen to ur switch cause you wipe the screen lol.

Neonridr2379d ago

and it is coming. My point is, why are we freaking out like it is inevitable? The likelihood is slim to none for almost everyone here.

kangolkyle2379d ago

Never been a problem or concern for me either. That said, sure, they should probably do something about it.

MeteorPanda2379d ago

In response to your reply.

Because it really should of been live at launch. The 3ds line needed them, theyve had the store for a while with no account system. They are Amish with how to use the internet. Like they just dropped the friendcode system now.

Neonridr2379d ago

yep, I will agree with you. And when the inevitable cloud saving comes, it will be a godsend. But I just figure it will come at some point.

Owned one since day one yet worried about it for all of about 8 minutes in total myself ;)

I personally not worried about anything, as I take care of all my expensive electronical devices well. However, it'd be nice to have a backup plan as well.
