10 Games With Extremely Cringeworthy Writing

Sometimes, the writing in a game is so good, you find yourself rendered speechless. If only these particular games were also rendered speechless.

I like when games that intentionally have cringeworthy writing and go the limit with it.

Titles like Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, House of the Dead: Overkill, Double Dragon Neon, & Bayonetta are a few examples of this.

Cole-Cocking2787d ago

It really begs the question of when is something "so bad, it's good"? Sometimes intentionally cheesy dialogue suits the game or genre quite well. I dig the examples you cited - House of the Dead in particular has always been at the forefront of this.

darthv722785d ago

deadly premonition is one such game that is so bad it's good.

Sciurus_vulgaris2785d ago

Blood Dragon’s cringy writing was deliberate. I am surprised the Perfect Dark series wasn’t on the list.

DMC2 ranked 2nd and also DmC ranked 3rd?
What a load of BS!

ABizzel158d ago

IMO

6. DMC2 6/10
5. DMC4 7.5/10 (Hated Nero, repeat bosses, Dante was the saving grace but only about half the game)
4. DmC 7.5/10 (solid overall, some great ideas, meh story, dialog sucked, and the director almost killed DMC)
3. DMC1 8.5/10 (all around solid)
2. DMC5 9/10 (carried by Dante & Nero gameplay, I didn’t like V’s, Nero’s better but still not a fan)
1. DCM3 10/10 (chef’s kiss)

Well, it worked.

This nothingburger of a opinion article got a lot of views and comments.

WHAT!? who in their right mind would put 2 near the top (not at the bottom) unironically?
I think all of them are worth playing in their own right honestly, except 2 unless you REALLY want to experience the whole series.

FinalFantasyFanatic57d ago (Edited 57d ago )

I honestly don't know what the author was smoking, personally I'd rank DMC3 as no.1, maybe DMC5 as second, DMC1 as third, DMC4 as fourth, and DMC as fifth and DMC2 last. such a bizarre list, mybe the author just has strange taste.

DMC2 anywhere but last is crazy. Awful list overall.

BlaqMagiq158d ago

"Devil May Cry 2 isn’t trash. It’s just misunderstood by a fanbase that doesn’t like change."

This and putting DMC 2 number 2 is all I need to ignore this ranking. DMC2 is absolute trash and it's clear this person doesn't understand exactly why.

Flenter58d ago

For me: 3,1,5,4,2 and then .....Dmc

fsfsxii58d ago (Edited 58d ago )

Why is DmC last? Genuinely curious.

lellkay58d ago (Edited 58d ago )

Dmc is far superior to DMC2 come on

"almost 20-year-old series"

It's 24 years old.

Devil May Cry Games Sales Surge After Netflix Success

Sales of games in the Devil May Cry franchise have surged as a result of the new anime adaptation's success. DMC 4, DMC 5, and the DMC HD Collection have all reentered Steam's Global Top Sellers. Devil May Cry 5's player count jumped from around 2,000 concurrent players to just over 13,500 players in the span of a few days. Devil May Cry 4 and the Devil May Cry HD Collection have also seen similar sales boosts in the past week.

The success of the Devil May Cry anime adaptation—and to a lesser extent, the Onimusha TV series—serves as early proof the company's multimedia expansion strategy in action, showcasing how Capcom is leveraging its game IPs beyond consoles and into streaming platforms.

Lol, well... Better late than never, I suppose. It's a wonderful series. Devil May Cry V was truly something special (despite my small nitpick on the overuse of one particular level.) I still think it's probably the best action game ever made. Not sure if I'll check out the anime but I've been rocking with the games since the start of the series.

isarai63d ago

Deserved, DMC is peak hack and slash, and despite it's awareness, the sales numbers should be higher imo for what it does.

CrimsonWing6963d ago

I really was expecting to hate this show with Nero voicing Dante and all the changes they made, but cringe forced cussing aside, I really enjoyed the hell out of it.

Lexreborn263d ago

I am guilty as of yesterday lol I bought the HD collection on Playstation and the definitive edition of DmC for 20 bucks yesterday. Granted, I already own them on PC and Physically and just wanted a convenient spot because I was planning on doing a sit down at the TV playthrough with my son.

Then I realized I could just use my Asus rog(offline mode) and Steamdeck we play our own games at the same time. And I give him tips as we play through them. I will likely do DmC on the PS4 though because that doesn't play the best on steamdeck. Otherwise we would play in my office on my ps5 pro or gaming desktop. That is to cluttered though....

Anyways, I'm super excited to go home and play DMC1 with my son tonight!
