Recent rumors and speculation around Capcom continues to grow. As their latest games seem unable to hit their marks amongst gamers, in terms of sales. What company would step in and save Capcom? What would they have to gain from Capcom's portfolio?
Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite just seems like a game that had lower production values than its predecessor
Rereleasing a title various times isn't instantly an indication that a company is doing bad. Various companies have rereleased their games many times across various platforms.
people seem to forget that capcom is the developer of Monster Hunter series, a series so addictive that they need to put a warning not to play too much in the starting screen trust me, january 26th, many first timer will get addicted to the series and see that an amazing MP game can actually come without MTs
Monster Hunter is not that fun IMO. I just don't see the appeal for that game.
@just_sayin you have tried it? maybe it's just not to your taste, but I'm sure it will gain massive amount of fanbase with the release of MHW on mainstream platforms
I tried monster hunter with my brother once and thought it was the most boring thing ever. Couldn't understand all the hype around it.
I have monster Hunter on the Wii u, played maybe an hour and never touched it again.
There is no way in hell Monster hunter world Is going to make capcom a big profit. The usual Mh sales probably barely covers MHW budget. Trust this,Not as many new people will buy it as you think.
@aboves true, true.. I kinda understand that because tbh I also think it's boring the first time I tried the series on PSP, but that's because I tried it alone and the series back then didn't really have much in terms of presentation and story, they pretty much straight out telling you to do mission and grind and I was like wtf? never touched any MH ever since until MH4U. It's kind of changed with MH4 though, they put more acceptable stories and made it more accessible to first-timer without sacrificing the depth of gameplay. From what I've seen on the trailer it's gonna be even more so in the MHW, trust me, it's gonna make you guys look back, because that's exactly what happened to me.
Dam whats with you casuals can't play any hard games might as well get stick with regenerating health and cheat on cuphead for ever.
@erogemaster oh yeah I forgot, there's a learning curve on playing monster hunter much like playing Dark Souls. Well, can't help it if the casual dudebros bunch above can't handle it man.
Monster hunter won't be as big as you think. Not in NA and EU. I'll be giving World a try, but I hated the MH games up until now. I do like alot of games in the genre like Freedom wars, Ragnarok Odyssey/Ace and God Eater Burst + res. I have 2 but haven't started yet. But yeah, I like those but hated every MH I tried so far and I've tried plenty and played the first one on PSP before the series was really popular
their last games were unable to hit the targets because were below trash in concept and some times in quality ...and not because production (money) problems..... if they have treated RE with respect and didnt rape the thing to the core making this BS of a game (RE7), now would have at least gain some fans back ...the same goes with last MVC ...i havent seen a poorer in concept art game coming out from such big developper ........they dont need to be bought in order to be saved .....just bring 1-2 good game artists and writers-directors to take over and salvage entirely some of the IP s and the problem is solved
'If Capcom's Has Money Troubles Who Will Buy Them Out' The word Capcom doesn't need that apostrophe and S. The sentence should have a question mark at the end of it. If websites can't write basic English how can we have any respect for what they have to say?
Colin Moriarty? Is that you?
So you just going to ignore RE5 & 6?
RE4,5,6 were not authentic REs ...though were absolute fun and good action games ...RE7 was a garbage whole together
Re7 was vastly superior to 4 in every way other than enemy variety. Get over yourself and your empty notions on how a resi evil game should be.
RE4 is wildly considered one of the greatest games ever made.
I agree with you, except for RE7, a good game.
He probably didn't read their report http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/...
Sad thing is about RE7s low sales is if they just followed through with their original vision of RE5 then maybe the franchise would have evolved in a better way instead of mutating. http://www.relyonhorror.com... In the end their sales projections for RE7 (which would have been completely different) would have met their targets.
they already met their target (4 millions) week ago https://www.vg247.com/2017/...
Lol. Yeah now it has, it only took them 10 months longer, they were expecting 4 million DAY ONE, or at least a month in. http://www.pushsquare.com/n... They also want 10 million lifetime sales which most likely isn’t going to happen http://www.gamesindustry.bi... Let’s not spin this, it’s not done as well as they hoped. If they stuck to RE5s original vision and made RE6 similar instead of the other the top action fest we got the sales would be much higher.
4 million day 1 it's a joke from producer yeah it's took 10 month to met their target but game still doing good (3.5 > 3.7 > 4.0 > ?) and game pretty much more lower budget RE 5 and 6 (has recouped development after release 1 month) i don't think RE 7 Will have 10 million lifetime sales (the highest selling is RE 5 – 9.5 million)
PSVR may help RE 7 to sell 10 million
"Let’s not spin this, it’s not done as well as they hoped. If they stuck to RE5s original vision and made RE6 similar instead of the other the top action fest we got the sales would be much higher." Let's not spin this? That's exactly what you're doing. RE7 was well received and I bet you had comments that were not favorable towards RE5 like you are with most things. You act like you know better but in reality it's very easy to criticize from afar with no investment.
Yeah you're the one spouting ans spinning nonsense though. Capcom never expected it to sell that much day one. That number was projected for months after release and you can Look it up. Next time try not to let your empty bias comment for you...maybe then re7's success (read gantarat's comment) won't sting you as much.
Well im almost certain that Tencent will sooner more that latter will own the majority of Capcom shares if not all,so Capcom most likely will be absorb by Tencent Gaming.
I agree on that. China is growing and growing, (as I daytrade and also trade cryptos too) I can see China being smart and takeover a said company
Doesn't Tencent also own SNK? It's a trip seeing these Chinese companies buy Japanese one.
PLEASE LET SEGA GET THEM!!!
worst case scenario: 1. MS 2. EA
The fu** no just no.
Who are you replying too?
Then, you need to check the developers and history between the two. Like stat.
They can't. There is a law stopping overseas companies taking over Japanese companies.
Thats a misconception based on laws that were changed last decade.
Lol. Wut? Japanese companies can acquire over seas, but can’t be acquired? I guess it’s not meant to be fair.
Their actually profiting ! Especially for they remakes.. if they miss their sale forecast don't mean they looking money ..Their profit just lower for investors
And shareholder or stockholder
More likely that others will start swiping their franchises. Nintendo = Mega Man Microsoft = Dead Rising Monster Hunter would depend on bid wars Not sure what Sony would be interested in. Street Fighter or Resident Evil perhaps.
But what about the others, onimusha, god hand etc...
Although I would love to be optimistic about their franchises like Dino Crisis I think that a lot of companies have changed their stances too much since the PS2 era. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot end up like THQ's games (in the bin).
Capcom simply don't know what to do with some of their biggest IPs. SFV could've been huge but they fucked it up big time by being too greedy with it's content and not releasing it on a console with a 30M+ user base. Dreamcast guy did a good vid on Capcom yesterday - https://www.youtube.com/wat...
All that monster hunter money isn't enough? Maybe if they released the previous titles on other platforms and not just the 3DS they'd be a little better off. But a combination terrible dlc practices in the past and barebone releases didn't do them any favours.
If they have money troubles I hope someone competent grabs the Breath of Fire series.
I feel like sony would buy them out. If Microsoft did it they wouldn't know what to do with them and if Nintendo did honestly they would be another good choice. Man though think if Sega bought them and used that and made their comeback to consoles lol.
Resident evil 7 in VR is my favorite horror experience ever. It shotgun blasted my mind with awesome!
RE7 is scary as hell... it's like they saved all the scary from 5&6 and kept it for 7. i am just at initial stages of the game... it's crazy
Agreed. It's the shot in the arm the franchise needed.
Honestly, I don't see anyone buying Capcom, they've scared off the majority of their talent, best case scenario would be selling their IPs on.
you need 188.812 billions to buy capcom. https://www.bloomberg.com/q...
Yeah in Yen.. who is going to pay that for them anyway? From a gaming perspective they're a shadow of their former selves, I imagine a lot of that value comes from the hard work of the talent that have long since left them.
Not me anyway. Like EA, they haven't made a game worth buying in the last 5 years with the exception of Dragon's Dogma.
There's a huge difference between being in financial trouble and not making as much money as you would like. Capcom are very much in the latter category. However if someone were to buy them out. I would want it to be Nintendo. They could fill some holes in their portfolio, and traditionally the pair have done great work together over the years.
A combination of EA and Microsoft will buy them and shut all their studios in less than a year...
If sony bought out capcom that would be insain... Plus sony has a track record of making great games and not just buying out companies and letting their frachise ip's die a slow death like another company...
This past year, Capcom has been at least trying... Maybe not with Street Fighter and a few other titles, but with Resident Evil and the upcoming Monster Hunter. The problem is, that their reputation went downhill with the direction of Resi Evil, their horrible DLC practices and the daft decision not to push for sequels like Dragon's Dogma 2 or a new Mega Man. They need to go back to their Japanese roots and avoid copying American publishers, which was their issue in the first place. They tried to turn RE into an action series to emulate the success of CoD and follow EA/Ubi/Microsoft DLC stylings... Now Japanese gaming is back on the rise, they might change. Maybe.
they went down hill after the poor sales of Okami. The shuttering of Clover Studios who made Okami. Along with the mass exodus of lead designs, producers and developers who's credits included DMC, RE, and Okami among a few. However they have rebounded to some degree as that all happened a long, long time ago now. In hindsight Capcom might be wishing they weren't so quick to judge based off initial sales and given Clover another shot instead of jumping the gun... Monster Hunter could be huge for them plus additional money from DLC if they go that route which I have to imagine they will. It's the perfect franchise for some great DLC that can be developed for a minimal amount that people will buy... Like a Dead Space developer said, Horror games are a hard sell. Yes it's RE but they do need to find a common ground to draw a wider audience. RE4 and RE5 did a good job of going more action oriented. RE7 has sold great though and they completed rebooted RE for that.... DMC, Onimusha are both ripe for a new game. I'd suggest outsourcing Onimusha or even DMC [again] but that's assuming they have X million and a competent developer to get it done w/ X cash on a timeline... One problem might be their DLC model for Street Fighter and Marvel v Capcom. Not to mention Marvel v Capcom just seems like a cheap grab using minimal development, Street Fighter assets and the same DLC BS. Not to mention despite the resurrection of Street Fighter that genre is still incredibly niche. I think Capcom is fine though. Go back to Okami to see their sales estimates are always far too high. What matters is the end of the day, not the end of launch. RE7 has sold well since release. Monster Hunter should sell a pretty decent number. I personally know 5 people who have never played it who are all on board. And anyone truly interested in this game should look for 1-2 friends to also buy it because this is a co-op game...They've brought Okami to PS3 and are now bringing it to PS4. Amazon is sold out not even offering a pre-order anymore. Plus they have their library of old RE games everywhere. They could tap into Breath of Fire and re-release 1-3 which would sell well but like fighting games these RPGs are still niche... While I don't always agree with Capcom it will be sad a day in gaming should they ever have to settle, merge, or go down.
If they indeed have financial issues no doubt MS is the only one capable of doing this.
They have been circling the drain for years. There is a reason they are called Crapcom. Sad really as they have massively popular IP. Fans have been asking them for a new Mega Man for ....well for way way too long. Instead we get Street Fighter remix 9887373783 turbo ultra super duper edition (which was not even completed when it released). Also they are choosing to limit IP to one console or the other which is NEVER a good move. In fairness I have been meaning to check out RE7, but have not made it a priority as the last two have SUCKED. RE4 was sheer brilliance. A question now becomes what will happen with MHO. One of the reasons why online only games are a risk, if the core company pulls the plug on the servers, the product is utterly USELESS. If they are having such difficulty, I would seriously question buying into MHO. It looks great, but it is risky.
Bandai Namco Capcom, eh?
I don't know if Sega could buy them but that's 1 publisher that I wouldn't mind seeing buying Capcom.
Exactly!!! Hideki Kamiya would breath life back into so many games. We would final see an awesome new Mega Man series. A Final Fight X Streets of Rage crossover. The fighting games would fantastic.
