Well it seems Polyphony still has it. This is what you get whrn you trimm the fat. GT Sport is a lean, mean machine. Let it begin!

DARK_WOLF2380d ago

While it doesnt have the amount of content the previous entries had it looks like what is there is really high quality and up to date content.

I hope they continue this with gt7 and dont bring back the old cars along side 'premium' cars and just keep it all high quality.

frostypants2379d ago (Edited 2379d ago )

Agreed! I'd rather have one fully detailed car model than 10 re-hashes from an old game that I'd never even bother with.

Gamist2dot02379d ago

I think that's what they're aiming for. Releasing Sport to fuel the funding for GT7 with all redesigned/new high modeled cars. Wouldn't be surprised if GT7 releases on the PS5.

Cryptcuzz2379d ago

How many different Honda Civic do a game really need?! Especially when most will be aiming for the exotic/concept cars anyways.

I like this approach.

TankCrossing2379d ago (Edited 2379d ago )

It is simply necessary to trim the fat if you want to deliver content that is up to the standard the PS4 can deliver. Polyphony could have rehashed models from GT6 (and earlier) to boost the numbers, but the result would have been inconsistent quality with the high-end "new" stuff alongside relatively shoddy assets that there simply wasn't time and resource to update. The game would have suffered for it. Now they have a really solid foundation to build on.

I distinctly remember everybody saying the same thing when Turn10 released Forza 5 with less cars in it than Forza 4, for the same reasons.

rainslacker2379d ago

The only time I play most cars is to get past qualifiers for the more exciting car races. I might have a hundred or more cars in my garage, but I usually end up playing 3-4 cars regularly in races where you can choose your own, and have whatever car is required for a particular race. Most of the time, I'm not that keen on all the slower car races, although they're OK from time to time. To me, having 500+ of cars to choose from becomes overkill.

I don't mind that they're there, but for the most part, I have no desire to drive them all, and when you have that many cars, most of them are just duplicates of the same car anyways. So long as there is a decent variety of cars to choose from in the game, it's fine by me. I'll probably still end up just racing 3-4 favorites.

RCslayer2379d ago

Kaz has stated time and time again. THERE IS NO GT7. Gt sport is a new beginning for gran turismo and in my eyes is a shitty beginning.

Kenshin_BATT0USAI2379d ago

Keeping in mind excessive content was actually an issues (i.e. massive amounts of cars being low quality) I think this was a step in the right direction.

3-4-52379d ago

It's like what they did with Forza 5. The had to re-set/re-start with HD visuals so they had to re-scan all the cars and only had like 180 in the first game and more with the others, so I'm assuming the next GT will have even more.

UltraNova2379d ago (Edited 2379d ago )

To be honest, while trading a huge number of cars for less of far greater visual and gameplay-wise quality is the right thing to do, I cant say the same for less tracks and a very limited SP mode. Additionally, I do not like the fact that saving is disabled offline, even though I get why they did it; still they should have figured it out and allowed it. This is patch priority number one, Polyphony.

Now that've I've spend almost a day with the game I have this to say: GT Sport is by far the most polished game Polyphony has ever made, the controls, input reaction times, car weight shift physics and yes sound (listen to that R8's scream and backpressure burble with a 300 dollar headset ) are exceptional in every sense of the way, while the game is addictive and fun as heck.

What can Polyphony do going forward? Well provide us with a detailed support (cars, modes, tracks) roadmap where most of them are hopefully free and then we can rest assured that the king of racers is once again on the Virtual Tarmac Throne.

strifeblade2379d ago

this game is doing bad- 4 reviews in and the meta is 78. and its only going down from here, apparently from the 180 cars- half of them are variants and really only 90 unique cars... sad

The_Sage2379d ago (Edited 2379d ago )

There are more reviews than that here on N4G. I've not seen one below 8/10. I did see a 9.5/10.

strifeblade2379d ago

if its meta is 78- then it must be getting less than 80 somewhere.

rainslacker2379d ago

4 reviews on meta as I'm writing this.

3-80's, one 70.

I think I'd wait for more of the reviews to come in, particularly since gamesradar is the only one with any kind of long standing credibility, and the other 3 are basically small sites. I think since most of the bigger sites are reviewing it pretty well, that meta will go up by the end of the week once they get submitted. At least based on what I've seen on N4G today where they are between 8-9.5 ratings.

UCForce2380d ago (Edited 2380d ago )

Wow ! Eurogamer give GT Sports give a recommended.

DARK_WOLF2380d ago

Yeah it looks great and the graphics are stunning. More appealing than forza 7 from what ive seen recently and its the first time i can say gt sounds better than forza. Im really keen to get it now

WilliamSheridan2380d ago

I agree. I was planning on getting FORZA to showcase the graphics of the X model coming soon. But now I'm thinking, GT always felt better. I just wish there was a career mode.

gamer78042380d ago (Edited 2380d ago )

the games play differently, but the amount of cars is pretty slim in GT, Forza has over 700 cars vs 167 cars. For sim fans thats just not enough cars from the market.

morganfell2379d ago

Picked it up last night at the early launch. Wasn't intending on playing as I am in the middle of Shadow of War. I thought, I'll just pop it in for the install, any patches and a preorder code. Well, okay I'll just start it up for a few minutes.....yeah, right 3 hours later...I'm still driving cars like I stole them.

C-H-E-F2379d ago

@WilliamSheridan

The thing you don't understand is GT SPORT IS the "career" mode so to speak.... I'm not sure if you played the beta/demo, but when you run GT SPORT mode everything we used to do in the Spec races 'Career" we do in Sport mode the difference is, we don't have crappy A.I just crappy humans until you rank up.

So stop dawning on the 'career' mode, the campaign is literally there to teach you the game, you learn alot about cornering and racing doing those challenges, i've learnt alot. This is my FIRST GT racing with a wheel, because well i'm rich now so i can afford it ahahaha. But yeah... the "titles" for the modes are just that titles. when you actually play it, you'll see GT Sport mode is more-so our old campaign structure. I just hope that they allow for more races in Sport mode because 3 available at a time over the course of x amount of minutes makes it a bit slow jumping into and out of.... So we will see how that fairs in the real game.. i'm still waiting for mine to be delivered unfortunately.

So all of that to say....
GT Sport --> Campaign
Campaign --> License test / Tutorial (get the feel for the game and tracks and cars and mechanics)

frostypants2379d ago (Edited 2379d ago )

Yeah the sound thing is pretty big IMO. Audio is huge for me personally...it adds so much to the thrill of the race...and GT had been letting me down in that department. So, so, SO happy they've addressed this.

frostypants2379d ago (Edited 2379d ago )

@gamer7804: "the amount of cars is pretty slim in GT, Forza has over 700 cars vs 167 cars. For sim fans thats just not enough cars from the market."

I'm a gamer who has preferred Forza for the last few years despite being more of a Sony guy, and all this is more than enough to bring me back to GT. Sim fans care more about the driving model...you know, the actual sim...more than the car count. Car count has nothing to do with why I liked Forza. I liked Forza because it was a better online experience and had much better sound, and a driving model that at least came close to GT. None of that appears be the case any longer. GT has caught up with online and audio and run away with the physics modeling.

talocaca2380d ago

So I guess this is good news?

I'm honestly expecting 85 Metacritic...solid but not spectacular.

Dark_Knightmare22380d ago

Dude an 85 metacritic would be spectacular and right in line with forza 7 and pc cars

frostypants2379d ago (Edited 2379d ago )

An 85 for a racing game is very strong. I could only hope it ends up that high.

DarXyde2379d ago

I don't think that number means what you think it does.

Since when is 85 "not spectacular"?

2600Thunder2379d ago (Edited 2379d ago )

I already bought it, but I am curious about this score as well as Open Critic's after a week has passed. Game reviews should always include pricing models and since there is no predatory gambling monetization and it is a full game on DAY 1, this game earns a few points in my scale in terms of the value of the entire package.

Great game and buy imo. Btw 85 is an excellent aggregate score.

RadicalCannibal2379d ago

It’s on a 78 at the moment. Above average they call this

MasterCornholio2379d ago

That's with only 4 reviews though.

Great praise here. Nice one!

bouzebbal2380d ago

not expected huh?? came out of nowhere no?

Gazondaily2380d ago (Edited 2380d ago )

Not really? Are you complaining about me praising this? Should I do what you guys do and say it's a paid review or something 😂

nix2380d ago

we'll see septic and moldy in a poorly reviewed post.

Gazondaily2380d ago

OH you will. And comments like the one above from these kind of characters motivate me to make those comments.

bouzebbal2380d ago

Septic always butthurt, no matter what heppens.
wannabe troll slayer, no one really cares other than your kind of character..

morganfell2379d ago

"OH you will. And comments like the one above from these kind of characters motivate me to make those comments."

So you are saying you are quite often manipulated and instead of stating your own thoughts, you are a person that allows others to pull your strings and dictate your actions. Okay.

Gazondaily2379d ago (Edited 2379d ago )

@Morgan

No I'm saying that the continued toxic behaviour of others compels me to react in a certain way. You lot have been trying to pull my strings for quite some time. Doesn't work though, much to my amusement

@bou

"Septic always butthurt, no matter what heppens. "

Ironic- considering I praised the game and you still appeared to be butthurt 😂

"no one really cares other than your kind of character."

Yet you and others at your 'level' cared enough to comment on my praise, several times. 👍 🤣

Think about it. I praised the game. But you guys couldn't even handle that ! 😂 How petty is that?

morganfell2379d ago

"No I'm saying that the continued toxic behaviour of others compels me to react in a certain way. You lot have been trying to pull my strings for quite some time. Doesn't work though, much to my amusement "

I haven't been trying to pull your strings. I would just as soon have them cut completely. And you are being dishonest, by your own words you are wrong. You stated this:

"OH you will. And comments like the one above from these kind of characters motivate me to make those comments."

What do you think "compels" means in this situation? They yank and you respond. The very fact you have comments rife with vitriol is proof that people do pull your strings much to their amusement rather than yours. Otherwise you would ignore such persons and make your statements objectively and in disregard to their remarks. But that isn't your nature nor is it the measure of your actions. One Svengali after another has your number.

frostypants2379d ago (Edited 2379d ago )

Septic people disagree with you because you have a long, storied history of altering your posts as soon as you get a reaction. So people just downvote you out of the gate now. You made that bed.

Gazondaily2379d ago

" I would just as soon have them cut completely."

Oh how you and your ilk have tried.

"The very fact you have comments rife with vitriol is proof that people do pull your strings much to their amusement rather than yours. "

I think you vastly underestimate how much amusement I get from various parties, including yourself, writhing around trying to rationalise their distaste for someone that, even when my stated sentiments align with theirs (and yours), it causes you to resist, mock or attack.

"Otherwise you would ignore such persons and make your statements objectively and in disregard to their remarks"

No- I like this sport.

morganfell2379d ago

It matters not that you write you find it amusing. Too many times we have seen you lose your mind here. And like it or not, enjoy it or not your replies are often born of the fact you are compelled...by other parties...to respond so you can stop with the I am above it all after already admitting others manipulate you into replying in a certain manner. Suck it up and try to do better next time.

Gazondaily2379d ago

"It matters not that you write you find it amusing. Too many times we have seen you lose your mind here. "

🤣😂 If you say so!

"And like it or not, enjoy it or not your replies are often born of the fact you are compelled...by other parties."

Well of course. If rampant idiocy, ignorance and toxicity compels me to respond that doesn't necessarily mean that I'm precluded from enjoying myself or take things at my own pace.

You say I'm compelled by others but look at the vast number of people perturbed by me here, a singular force audit such chaos in the cogs of the contingent. Do you not perceive ?

You think I'm trapped here with all of you. You fail to realise; you're all trapped here with me! ♏

Why o why2379d ago

Sometimes. . just sometimes we should just accept a comment at face value. There wasn't anything sly about the comment. Yeah we all know his preference for 'le beast' but at least he has a PlayStation and until Forza was probably gaming more on his station and switch more than the xb1.

Since the bubble system ended there's no point trying to say nice shit to gain bubbles so I think comments can be more honest as there's nothing to gain.

rainslacker2379d ago

Those that find it amusing to antagonize others are typically thought to be trolls.

The reactions to your comments is due to your overall tone in all your comments. You don't like the vitriol, then maybe stop acting like that, and go back to when you were at least more fair with your comments and could be taken seriously. Even though you always had a preference, you were never trollish.

If it was the vitriol which turned you into a troll, then consider that you just let the trolls win, and you have degraded yourself to be more like them because you just gave up trying to be more rational and intelligent. In giving up the effort to be rational, you've become exactly what you seem to not like, and have resorted to simply finding amusement by being a troll. I only do this with moldybread, because his comments are just so ridiculously stupid that it's actually fun to counter his arguments. But for the overall community, I don't usually feel like resorting to such things, because it's not that much fun to simply be like that for me.

Gazondaily2379d ago

@rainslacker

"I only do this with moldybread, because his comments are just so ridiculously stupid that it's actually fun to counter his arguments. "

Then you're doing the same thing I am except for the fact that its not just moldybread I'm contending with but a whole host of people making absolutely ridiculous comments or exhibiting hilariously defective behaviour.

I think my 'new' approach is warranted based on my experiences so far on this site.

As for my behaviour constituting trolling, I don't necessarily agree, particularly comparatively.

No we don't do that.. it's you guys who look surprised everytime.

Gazondaily2380d ago (Edited 2380d ago )

No I didn't do that. I praised the review that's all.

Five words- all praise.

But you couldn't even handle that. Lol stay classy...as always

bouzebbal2380d ago

i suggest you do the same..

mark_parch2380d ago

Gazondaily2379d ago

I suggest you get a handle on your sodium levels if you're getting triggered by a guy who is praising the game that you will be enjoying. 😁

Neonridr2379d ago

man.. unbelievable. A guy gives credit where credit is due and people jump on him. Go figure.

Liqu1d2379d ago

Yeah right. He'll be trolling at the next opportunity like he's done previously.

Neonridr2379d ago

@Liqu1d - doesn't change the fact that at this point in time he was just saying something nice. Everyone on here always has to look for something that isn't there huh?

So I guess if any PS4 fans comment on a Mario article when it gets a perfect score or something they are just trolling?

LP-Eleven2379d ago

When it's from someone with a known history, it feels as genuine as a tale of fiction.

OT: Really good reviews coming in so far! Not only does it look/play good, this will be, hands down, the highest selling driving/racing game of the year!

Neonridr2379d ago

@LP-Eleven - just seems odd that everyone goes out of their way to say something about a compliment. Regardless if you believe it or not, just leave it alone. Most people, regardless of who they support, can at least recognize a good game and give credit where credit is due.

starchild2379d ago

So does that mean I should instantly downvote comments from people like you and bouzebbal just because most of your comments are fanboyish?

DevilishSix2379d ago (Edited 2379d ago )

It's not just towards Septic this forum and a lot of the gaming community are toxic and have this pro Sony agenda and put down anything Xbox. I will just put this out there....Sony has done nothing and is doing nothing for you. Let me digress:

They are anti community with their anti cross play stance.

They are profit hungry based on their weak Pro console with not enough RAM for 4k texture assets and lack of a UHD player for 4k movies. PURE CASH GRAB.

They are anti consumer with the low speed downloads and increased PS Plus subscription price with no relevant increase in service to justify said increase.

and I could go on and on but those not blinded by the kool aid or the gaming press pandering around as objective; we can see and call a spade a spade.

Still not sure , the problem with online racing is the people racing online

UltraNova2380d ago

You cant control that thougt...even then Polyphony took steps towards aliviating this issue with the online Racing/driver score. Small steps...

ninsigma2380d ago

I hated the online in the beta. Idiots not breaking on corners ramming into the back or side of me and that's me done for the race because I can't recover from that.

Offline though was fantastic. Best feeling racer I've ever played. Really enjoyed playing arcade races.

yeahokwhatever2379d ago

Those people, you won't have to race with them for long. :-)

craig2web2379d ago

Don't race online - it's not a requirement. Stick with the Arcade mode with the custom races. You can set up any kind of race you want on any track with any car and still earn in-game credits. This is what I'll be doing virtually non-stop. :-)

InTheZoneAC2379d ago

I'll definitely be doing this. I just bought a wheel for the beta and was getting comfortable with it but getting hit and spinning off track was never fun

INMATEofARKHAM2379d ago

Amen! I rarely ace online, though I seem to do good when I do, just because of the people...

Hopefully, this is a step in the right direction for the genre... I would like something a bit more reasonable/cheaper than iRacing if I do want to go online and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

The great digital future. Where games vanish. The benefits of digital just aren't enough over physical to every buy in 100 percent. Especially when my Atari games still work and can be played to this day over 40 years later. Some of these digital games don't even last a whole generation.

purple101108d ago

But in this case everyone who has it still has it

And they unlocked single player to be allowed to progress offline

ApocalypseShadow107d ago (Edited 107d ago )

But in the case of others, they can no longer can buy it or any delisted game. Just like online only games that get their servers turned off and there's no update for offline with bots.

If you like the idea of any digital game being delisted where it's no longer available at all, then you and others are fools. What's all that presentation bullshit guys like you spew?

There should be no reason any digital game should be removed. Ever.

Bathyj107d ago

Apocalypse no one likes it. But let's be clear here.

If you own the game, you still own it. All that's happening here is they are stopped selling it.

Why? I have no clue. But it's the exact same thing if your local best buy isn't stocking the disc anymore and Sony aren't making any more. Same thing, just in the digital realm.

If you want to complain about servers for an online game being shut down, go ahead. But that's a separate topic and can happen to any online game even with a physical disc.

fan_of_gaming106d ago (Edited 106d ago )

@Bathyj "But it's the exact same thing if your local best buy isn't stocking the disc anymore and Sony aren't making any more. Same thing, just in the digital realm."

It isn't the exact same thing at all. When a game gets a physical release, it is always available even if big-box retailers aren't selling it new anymore. For example, I can go on eBay today and buy a new & sealed copy of Transformers: Fall Of Cybertron for PS3, because it once had a physical release. However I cannot buy a copy of Transformers: Fall Of Cybertron for PS4 today, because it had a digital-only release and was delisted.

If Gran Turismo Sport had a digital-only release, it would be unavailable for anyone to buy ever again. But because it had a physical release, in 5 years someone that wants to play it can still acquire it.

Cacabunga106d ago

People should stand against digitalization

purple101106d ago (Edited 106d ago )

I have only brought one or two digital games in my life
Everything I buy is physical

Often from eBay in perfect condition.
Sometimes from a online shop in uk such as

365games
Shopto.net
Simplygames
Base.com

All, who will ship disk to your door on day of release, cheaper than buying from digital store.

Then I either keep, lend, or sell. My choice

No where, did I say I support digital. And yet someone even called me a fool,
Haha
Totally misunderstood, some would say, he’s the fool

With GtSport It ISNT being taken away from anyone who already owns it. So this has all got out of hand with people not even reading the article

+ Show (3) more repliesLast reply 106d ago
DigitallyAfflicted107d ago

Maybe this will make people realise the future of digital-only games

purple101107d ago

This one won’t though
Because it’s not de-listed and taken away from you
It’s just not on sale anymore and the multiplayer will be shut down soon I reckon. It released 2017 so it’s had a fair run of 5 years online multiplayer lobbies

DigitallyAfflicted107d ago

@Purple, but it could be taken away, like p.t. Demo was, as well is taken away from anyone who didn't purchase GTsport in a digital form and yes I know we can still buy disc version and it's not a big of a deal.

My point is that you can't own something if it's not physical, with digital-only content you pay for the right to download and use and possibly in the future there will be some laws regulating you rights to it…

blackblades107d ago

I mean y'all been whining about that since the ps3 era. To this day im still able to play all the games I payed for.

ApocalypseShadow107d ago (Edited 107d ago )

It won't. Fools like purple think that just because they can still download it now, that it's safe. I've bought multiple games on console and mobile that are no longer downloadable or function. Because the game was either delisted or since it was connected to the Internet, no longer works because the servers were shut down turning those games into coasters. With no update to be able to play some games offline with bots. They're gone.

He won't get it or care until it happens to him and some of his games are delisted and removed or don't work any more even if he "bought it "

EvertonFC107d ago (Edited 107d ago )

If you don't keep your old consoles, your physical disk will be useless too. Do you think console hardware or disk drives will be around in 20 years. Good luck with that.
I'm not saying it's right btw, just pointing out to the physical crowd that digital and physical are very alike when it comes to actually being able to play the games in the future like 20 years time.
When I'm in my care home, I don't expect to be able to play my old digital or physical collection as consoles won't be around or disk drives for playstation.
Unless your keeping the old consoles safe in the attic over time, nobody will be playing there old physical game collections.

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 107d ago
EvertonFC107d ago

If you bought a physical launch day copy of GTS you still won't be able to download any of the updates in 20 years when servers are off.
Plus there will be no such thing as a disk drive or a hardware box for that matter in 20 years unless you keep your old consoles.
My point is sadly your physical or digital copy won't work.

Barlos107d ago (Edited 107d ago )

I see this as the digital equivalent of physical games going out of print. They don't continue to make copies forever, at some point they will stop making it, usually when sales dry up and I guess for GT sport that happened some time ago. Also, in the digital world, storage space is not infinite. If a game is no longer selling, why would they waste space on keeping it available?

For those that already own the digital version, they will still have access to it.

frostypants106d ago

I generally agree, but GT Sport is primarily an online game. They probably have some reluctance to deal with the blowback of selling an online-oriented game that may not have active servers much longer. Admittedly that's a whole other issue in itself.

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 106d ago
Father__Merrin107d ago

Online based titles like this I wouldn't expect to last forever as the game has been updated iterations as in gt7

Same with if FIFA 20 was delisted as example there's update to game. If something like Uncharted collection was delisted then that's something that's bad

Should use the official release from GT as the main and the Gamespot one as the alternate. https://www.gran-turismo.com/us/gtsport/news/00_1344615.html

Time to get a PS5! New PS5 owners in the USA can currently claim a game for free, but GT7 is not part of this promotion.

GT sport was good. Gt7 is better.

For someone who was crap at racers (and still is) and only played kart racers with powerups, I can say GT sport and gt7 balance SIM/ arcade racing to perfection. Easy enough for anyone to play and not crash but with enough depth to master for years.

Totally different to need for speed / Forza handling where the cars feel 'floaty'.

The dualsense is just supreme with gt7 toi

So...will they enable offline saves now or what?

From Gran-Turismo.com (the article liked above): "All existing cars and personalized Car Settings kept in Garage will be accessible. Gameplay progression required as normal to unlock additional cars and items."

So... yes, as far as I can tell you'll still be able to use all your collected and purchased cars and race on all the tracks in the game and unlock ones you might not already have access to. That's what I'm getting from the post, but time will tell if this actually comes to pass February 1st, 2024.

After Turismo 4 on the PS2, the series was never the same. Although Turismo 4 wasn't a finished game and didn't play as good as Turismo 3. Turismo 5 on PS3 was a mess, Turismo 6 was Turismo 5 finished. Sport on PS4 was another mess, especially VR mode. Sort of back on track with Turismo 7, but so tiring as with the Forza series. Anyone remember the PSP version that had no championship mode? Turismo has always been average at best.

Thats why i dont like online only games. Cant believe this, this game sold so well. You need to be a fanboy to keep supporting Sony after this. Bought this thinking that it would take 10 years for this. I'm lucky that there are enough classics and single players for a life time.

Looks like PD has the potential to set the bar for closing out always online games.
Back when GT Sport launched you couldn't do anything when you couldn't access the servers, but it looks like GT Sport will retain access to SP race modes, custom races, VR, your full garage, and all tracks. This is much more than what was available at launch if offline.

We still will lose custom liveries and race suits, which is nonsense, but hey if you share them online now they will be in the cloud and available to you in GT7 if you're interested. Basically, we lose MP, but players keep everything we earned and whatever was paid for.
