Final Fantasy IX is one of the most critically acclaimed entries in the series to date and is often praised for its charm, art direction, characters and soundtrack. Revisiting it today is as much a pleasure now, if not more so, than playing it back in 2000. It’s never been easier thanks to a surprise announcement from TGS last month where Square Enix re-released the title for the PS4.
You need a reason to fight the good fight. In video games, some of the best antagonists have been female perpetrators.
Final Fantasy 16 is taking the series in a new direction, but it still appears to be taking some effective inspiration from past games.
I liked it a lot, I will not compare it with other final fantasy, But I hadn't felt that emotion for a long time playing since the final fantasy vll remake, it lacks some things, it's not my goty, but it deserves a place in my heart, with that I say everything.
Hironobu Sakaguchi loves Final Fantasy XIV and recently he's been using its creative features to pay homage to Final Fantasy IX.
Even Kuja himself is a celebration of the series' villains since he mirrors all the ones that preceded him in various ways.
- Both he and the original Garland from Final Fantasy I kidnap a Princess named Sarah, as Sarah is Garnet's real name.
- Both he and Emperor Mateus from Final Fantasy II kidnap a woman named Hilda. He also acts quite a bit like him early on.
- Both he and Xande from Final Fantasy III throw a cosmic tantrum upon finding out that they are mortal and both unintentionally perform globally-perilous actions that lead Necron/Cloud of Darkness to enter into the mortal realm to revert the world to nothingness as final bosses.
- Both he and Golbez from Final Fantasy IV are brothers to the protagonists of their respective games. They're also both from a different planet than the one the game starts on.
- Both he and Exdeath from Final Fantasy V draw their powers from a tree made of souls.
- Both he and Kefka from Final Fantasy VI start out as underlings of an Emperor/Queen, responsible for giving the powers that caused villainy to be begin with, who they eventually overthrow and murder. Kuja also kills Garland in the same way Kefka kills Emperor Gestahl - kicking them off a ledge a-la-Sparta. Their plans also involve using the powers of Eidolons.
- Both he and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII use their protagonists to deliver the macguffin to them. They are both also products of experimentation, although Kuja is far more "artificial" than Sephiroth as a whole. And, of course, they're both of the White Hair, Black Heart archetype.
- Both he and Ultimecia from Final Fantasy VIII reside in a time distortion for their final battle. Ultimecia is found in her castle after time has been compressed, while Kuja is found in Memoria, which is a physical manifestation of the planet's memories.
Yet even with all these callbacks Kuja still remains a unique character unto himself. You could even say Kuja symbolizes the entire game's theme as much as the protagonists.
Without Vivi, this game would be pretty meh rather than kinda meh on the meh scale.
