Assassin's Creed Origins Has Loot Boxes

PSLS: "Assassin’s Creed Origins will join the trend of AAA single-player games with loot boxes. Called a Heka chest, these magical boxes contain “one random weapon or shield” that will appear when the box is opened “automatically on purchase.” In the preview builds, players can only purchase these chests with in-game currency."

Haha! Loot boxes. I'll have to see, when I play, if I care.

Cancer to gaming.
And you laugh.
You are not a gamer.
Just a Internet toxic supporter.

Bigpappy2393d ago

Thanks for the classification. Now I know what I am.

I don't get why people get up in arms about loot boxes in single player games. They are 100% optional and don't effect other players in the slightest. If little junior son of a bitch wants to use mommies credit card to get a scimitar before me... who. The. F. Cares

Bruneblomst2393d ago (Edited 2393d ago )

But it do effect other players you know that right? i dont want to explain too you why, but you should look in to it yourself before defending greedy companies selling loot boxes(gambling) in full priced games. Peace:)

zivtheawesome2394d ago

It's a misconception. You can only buy it with in game currency like horizon boxes basically.

P_Bomb2394d ago

Those were preview builds though. I could see them expanding it to real bucks for the retail release. Ubi is no stranger to microtransactions.

That said, I never use most of the weapons in Assassins Creed anyways. Have my mains. Plus baddies drop weapons. No shortage.

edeprez2394d ago

I do wish you could keep dropped weapons this time. In the past you would drop them when you climb or switch weapons. The guy i got it from is dead, I doubt he will object.

zivtheawesome2394d ago

Yea i think i was wrong with my assumption but only realized it after my comment.

Angerfist2393d ago

The Problem is this always ends up with real money. Thats why i oppose it. You should be able to get everything with gameplay - especially in a single player game.

And in Multiplayer People are able to buy basically game deciding killstreaks etc

If you only can use in-game currency is it wrong to call them loot boxes?

OC_MurphysLaw2393d ago

No....its a box with loot in it. How you acquire it matters little and how you define it , it's still a loot box mechanic. That said if it's not offering up a way to buy it with real money as some are indicating then there should be absolutely no anger and outrage around it

nitus102393d ago

Like it or not the so-called loot boxes are a form of gambling.

If you look at microtransactions you paid with in-game currency or you purchased that currency with real money (eg. Shark Cards, Zen ... etc) but you got the item you wanted. With loot boxes that is no longer true since there is no guarantee that you will get the item(s) you want without purchasing many loot boxes unless you are very lucky.

You will always have people that are immune to any form of gambling incentives through to those who are basically gambling addicts (approx 2.9% of the adult population - see Google). What is insidious with this form of gambling in games is the fact that children are prone to get addicted as well.

A quick search will pull up articles like this http://kidshealth.org/en/te... although there are plenty of others.

BTW. I am well aware that the Assassin's Creed games are rated as "Adult" but you would have to be living under a rock if you honestly think that children don't get to play them as well.

DeviateFish2393d ago

I don't recall Horizon Zero Dawn getting any flak for their "loot boxes".

10 Video Game Sequels That Saved Their Franchise

Video game sequels like Assassin's Creed Origins, Doom (2016), and Fire Emblem Awakening were just what these franchises needed to be revitalized.

Immagaiden357d ago

Lmao what’s Halo Infinite doing on this list?

Who would ever say Halo Infinite saved the Halo franchise

SullysCigar357d ago

Thought the same - very bizarre!

RE7 though... my God, what a shift over RE6! That franchise was definitely going in the wrong direction, so RE7 was a welcome return to form.

ModsDoBetter357d ago

Resi 6 was and still is the worst entry in the series.
7 was a great turnaround, despite people’s concerned about the switch to FP perspective.

DMC5 definitely helped the franchise after the whole DmC debacle. Whilst it was a decent action game, it was a far cry from the series and the characters we knew.

AC Origins is my favourite in the entire AC series. Despite the switch to a more RPG style of gameplay - the setting, soundtrack, length, etc were all amazing. sadly followed up by the ridiculously long and “more of the same” Odsyssey.

I don’t feel it’s fair to say the franchise slipped with Doom 3, Doom 3 was incredibly atmospheric and took the game in a different direction but there’s no denying Doom (2016) was sensational.

Halo 4 & 5 were disappointing but Halo Infinite definitely didn’t save the franchise? What?

TheEnigma313357d ago (Edited 357d ago )

I'm going to have to go with SMB 3. I was around when SMB 2 first came out and people hated it. 3 is still arguably the best mario game created.

HellspawnPR1981357d ago

"Halo Infinite"? Worse Halo ever. Whoever made this list just lost all credibility.

Hofstaderman357d ago

In future lists of a similar nature I have a suspicion Final Fantasy XVI will feature.

Six Best Historically Accurate Games

GF365: "Out of the many historically accurate games out there, these are our picks for the six best games that are historically accurate. While these games aren't completely accurate, they depict the times and situations of history well. Plus, they're all a lot of fun to play, too."

Historically accurate from the past is tough to truly know and judge especially the farther you go back because history is written from the people in power and doesn’t mean it’s the truth just the narrative they wanted to tell.

I don’t care about historically accurate in most games because they are games not biographies or history books . Just make the game fun , good gameplay and such .

Ghost of Tsushima wasn’t historically accurate in many things but I loved the game . Many examples like it .
