Remember how MGS4 was "Judgment Day" for the 360? That was a laugh. After 10 weeks it had sold 3.29m compared to 5.25m after 10 weeks for Gears of War. Gears 2 will also sell more. And I'll spare you the Halo 3 numbers...don't want you guys to cry too bad.

The competition between the both systems is the reason we are not all here playing some gimick Wii crappy game and talking about how terrible the graphics are.

I'm on my 6th or 7th (can't remember now) and each replacement has come with another 3 year warranty.

I expect my controller will break considering all the use i intend on giving it this winter.

PS3 owners have warranties as well, it's just a rare case to hear they need to use it. If you find it okay to buy a newer version of the same console because it's more reliable then ok. I'm sure PS3 owners are comfortable knowing the money they paid for theirs is the only amount of money they have to pay for their hardware. But way to go, mentioning Ps3 owners were they have no part, yeah, they're the defensive ones.

Yeah I was annoyed when my PS2 broke, the laser in the disk tray crapped out, I managed to sell it to a friend for dirt cheap who thought he could fix it though (he couldn't). Only problems I've had with my launch PS3 have been 2 faulty USB ports (which certain firmware updates have fixed, others have broken them again) and those L2 and R2 buttons that break, that's happened on one of my controllers. But then, it's a playstation console so you kinda expect the L2 and R2 buttons to break.

I have had no problems at all, and according to what i have read, it has the same chip setup that the launch 360's have. My 360 is downstairs in the coolest room in the house, but I have accidently left it on overnight a few times and it's still going. I'm not going to try to intentionally make it break. If it is still working by Jan 2010, I will definitely have gotten my money's worth by far, considering I only paid $300 in a sale price back then. And would have no problem just buy a new arcade unit, which by 2010, will prolly be 125 or 100 dollars.

I bought a x360 around launch, and it lasted about 8 months before it died. Since then, the replacement has worked just fine.

Also, my PS3 bricked on the last major firmware update, and that got fixed as well (same PS3 came back ... or at least, the same HDD came back)

So, for me, they are each equally as faulty. One was software related, one was hardware, but the net result for me was a week or so turnaround until it got repaired.

I am still on my first 360 which resides in a 6 yo boys room now that I have added an elite to my game room but I do have dual 4" fans pulling air out the rear of my cabinet. I know the problem exists but I do not know of one person who has experienced it. The xbox brand isn't going anywhere and neither is playstation and that is GREAT news for us gamers.

Alot of these posts are from people who can't take an unbiased approach or POV on anything concerning the ps3/360/ or wii in the gaming industry.
Heres a few facts since I work in the gaming industry every day:
I sell the ps3 console for 399.99$...I make .49¢ profit on it.
I sell the the 360 for 299.99$...I make 19.98$ profit on it.
I sell the wii for 269.99$...I make 14.01$ profit on it.

These numbers are relative to what each company makes. Sony still sells the ps3 at a loss (which is undisclosed; apart from the confirmed loss of 3.3 billion in thier last trimester) at least they let the market make a miserable .49¢ on it.

Microsoft sells thier console at a steady profit. Last month they beat ps3 in Japan, thanks to Tales of Verespia. According to G4TechTV 360 sells are up in North America and on the rise.

Here are the sells numbers for North America in August
wii - 453,000 consoles sold
360 - 195,200
ps3 - 185,400
Ds - 518,300
Psp - 253,000

In my own store here are the total number of sales for the 360 and ps3 (this includes all models)
X360 - 302 consoles total
ps3 - 167 consoles total

To post this article, the author had no evidence or support to back up his claims apart from his own bad experiences with the console. I get alot more claims of ps3 problems and failures then I do with the 360 (last year it was the opposite, but that was LAST year.)

With all the games coming out between now and christmas for the 360, I don't see it slowing down, let alone failing. The ps3 will still be going strong thanks to its bluray drive (and hopefully HOME) but not because of 360 failing nor Sony exclusives. Fable 2 will be selling alot more consoles then Resistence 2 (now thats an opinon) Apart from LBP I don't see any "system sellers" on the ps3.

I have both consoles and I am in no way biased to any console. All the information given is confirmed from valuable sources.

It'll be at one point be cheaper for people to buy a new 360 then send them in for repair. At least the perceived install base will continue to grow even if old consoles are replaced completely. It's not like the install base subtracts the dead disguarded consoles the same way new purchases add to it. :)

This comment isn't reserved to 360 alone, but since 360 has been listed as having a higher failure rate it's impact is greater. When choosing a platform to develop for a consensus of the install base is used. Since the install base is a deciding factor in how resources are distributed this can give a false impression of overall success.

You then realize that having shipped 20 million doesn't directly translate to 20 million, although it's perceived as 20 million functioning units when calculated to the public and the developers.

Once the warranty runs out most people will just replace their worn out units, but by that time they'll have already served their purpose. The prices will drop and this will discourage people from buying used systems without warranties while adding to the perceptuion that the install base is still growing from new owners.

Sorry for that juuken! The SOCOM beta just brings back all those great times I had in SOCOM, II, and III in the past. It is just absolutely brutal.

The SOCOM beta is also showing a feature past SOCOM titles have always had. Teamwork. For some unknown reason the SOCOM games always generate great teamwork even among strangers. It isn't forced, it just happens.

There is a big update for SOCOM en route and Sony has even extended the beta as well.

I am in the Home beta as also and I love the fact we are seeing all of this innovation on the PS3.

I have R2 Collector's Edition paid off and that is on the top of my list. Of course when you sign your messages like that it makes it difficult to think about such things...

Im not a fan of FPS. im a fan of racing. Burnout Paradise is my all time favorite and yes it performs better on PS3 than xbox 360.

RROD has happened to me as well. It sucks and I want MS to find a way of fixing it for good but I don't see any reason they wouldn't survive because this isn't a new problem. Im sure everyone knows about it by now and it hasn't really drove many away from buying a xbox. Let me say I love my xbox 360, but I am on my second soon to be third repair. Instead of MS just "fixing" the 360 and wasting all that time doing it over and over why don't they just give us a coupon for a brand new one!?!?! I mean the newer ones don't seem to be plagued by this issue, so why cant we just get a new one? I hate that they won't admit that no matter what they do, the 360 is not repairable! What a load of toilet, agreed the RROD was (is) an issue. But I know loads of 360 owners not one of which has had a RROD. Those receiving replacement 360's do NOT get another 3 years. The 3 year warranty is from the date of PURCHASE.

Thus if you continue to receive replacements (as many do) keep in mind that the clock is ticking from your purchase date.

my first game was ghost recon advanced warrior back in 2006.
I was blown away coming from a ps2 to xbox360. Everything was great. I was so
impressed with xboxlive I reccomended it to all my friends & family. A few months went by &
I started having problems.

My games were freezing like crazy. Splinter cell just wouldnt work at all no matter
how many different disc I got from gamestop. All my games were scratched. I called support &
they told me I should keep it out of my wall unit. One day I got 3 red rings but I turned it off
in time & used a vacuum to suck out any dust. I bought the intercooler & kept it alive a few more
weeks but then the disc tray stopped working. I had to use a knife to pry open the tray & had a 50/50
chance that the console would recognize my game as a game & not a DVD .

Finnally , I made it to play cod4 until it started freezing & died. I called for a replacement but they told
me the warranty only covered 3 rings. I told them the truth. Everytime I turned it on it randomly flashed 1,2,&3
rings. They said if its 1 ring when they look at it I was gonna have to pay.

So I bought a arcade while waiting for the coffin. The arcade took 3 days before it started freezing & flashed me the red rings. Now, I dont get upset easily but I've had it. I was tired & stressed out. All I wanted to do was play
cod4. I've played all the very best games & beat em. Spent hundreds of dollars at the marketplace. A respectable gamerscore. I was done.

I packed up everything that had a xbox360 logo & instead of going to best buy I went to
gamestop & crossed my fingers when they turned on the arcade. It worked so I traded it &
all my games. I got my ps3 & cod4 for $40 dollars with some hdmi cables included.
needles to say it was the best desicion of my life. I have saved way more money for which
microsoft was ready to take for my gaming addiction.

Thank you Sony for just being you & always giving to the customer. That's a true story & I would hope
that everyone would learn how to use a company & not the company use you. Hopefully one day
ms can make a official statement about rrod being fixed. Until then, I'm done & not looking back.

I just don't see RROD reports like I used to. Microsoft must have made a significant dent in the root cause of the issue. I'm sure that it will take a while to weed through the remaining issues.

As for RROD, I bought the 2 year service contract with mine that took effect after the initial 1 year warranty was up. So I have another 7 months of that to cover me plus an additional 2 years of RROD protection on top of that. I'll probably buy another 2 year service plan just to make sure I'm covered for anything, though.

This article is gas on a fire but I still don't understand how a person can be so loyal to a faulty product. I read comments above saying they're on there 7th or 8th 360 and I'm in aww, my system RROD back in June and I bought my system from a friend so I have no purchase date for mine, I didn't think they would fix it but they did and I'm not sure what will happen if it happens again, but I will say this if it does and they tell me tuff I will certainly not buy a new one I don't care how cheap they are they shouldn't have released them to they public in the first place being this bad. People who have had the RROD, but also know 4 or 5 who have their launch system running fine. I am on my second, but no RROD, my kids broke the drive on the first one by pushing on the tray to close it. Have had new 360 for a year and a half and no problems. Still, MS did screw up, but in my opinion have done everything they can to make up for it. I notice in other comments people referring to problems with their PS2's back in the day. I had the same problem, and Sony NEVER admitted to it being a problem, even after they were sued in a class-action lawsuit and lost!!! (there was a document used in the trial that shows Sony VIPS new of the problem, but figured people would just buy another PS2, thereby boosting their sales)

my nintendo messed up all the time that it made me cry. I used to blow into cartridges & it gave me
ashtma attacks. A friend of mine had sega & I hated him & the one track & field game he had that came with
a pressure mat to run on. I wished his sega messed up on him because my parents wouldnt buy me one.

i have a original launch 360 and mines not going anywhere! It's proven very reliable even after hours of continuous play on Oblivion and others.In truth, i have had more problems with my brand new PS3, than with my 360, and that's fact. My THIRD xbox 360 got the rrod death about a month ago.I have had a service plan through comp usa (where I originally bought it).Comp usa has since closed almost all of it's stores. I called their service dept. They didn't have any record of my service plan and told me I need to fax my receipt etc...

Now, this box's rrod were intermittent. Some days I would get like every 5 minutes. Sometimes we would go a week without seeing it. Finally it got real bad and I decided to send it to ol' Microsoft.

I sent an email on a sunday night, and registered my service issue on xbox.com. 2 days later,Tuesday, I had a box with packaging and tape and a prepaid shipping sticker. All I had to do was take it to the ups store.

I took it the following night,wednesday,when I walked in the store the guy says to me "xbox?" I'm thinking' "damn!" They said they see about 10-15 of these boxes a week. to the non believers ups store , 1770 S Randall Rd Ste A, Geneva, IL - [phone]‎.

Anyways, My son and I were almost completely used to the fact our xbox hardware was crap.

To my surprise, We received a brand new xbox the following thursday. 8 days later,with a free month of xbox live-"wow!Thanks!".. .sarcasm...

I know personally, the 360 has a fatal design flaw,weather it's crappy solder or whatever. My point is, Microsoft took great care of me,and even though I have had 4 xbox now,I am happy.

It's not a matter of if your 360 is gonna die, it's a matter of when.

when i got the rrod i took it to a game store in san diego. he told me what the problem was it is the heatsinks in the systems, he replaced it and i have not had a problem since, it was worth the $50. i recommend anyone who has rrod do what i did its worth it. and keep your 360 well ventilated.

Add this story to the "heard it a million times" list. I think most people have known or know at least one person who's been porked in the backside by MS and this RROD problem. Personally, two of my friends have already had RROD with their 360, one a premium and the other an elite. I, myself, went through two consoles before I boycotted MS hardware from my house. This is what happens when you rush a piece of hardware in order to get a heads up on the comp. Funny how Q&A goes right out the window. No, I see 360 begin to show great signs of dying in the 2009 season. PS3 and Wii will continue to pump out great and original titles, whilst 360 releases crap. i've had a 360 with rrod, i've had 2 ps3's that have failed, 1 had the bluray drive fail and another had the bluetooth transmitter fail (headsets and controllers wouldn't sync).
