Week recap: PS3 160GB; Xbox 360 streak; Wii supply

Sony this week said that PS3 sales are 30 percent better than expected. The hardware may see a shortage in supply at retail.

Advanced sales for the PS3 160GB SKU soared upon availability at Amazon.com. The premium bundle will be sold in Nov. for $499.99.

The Xbox 360 beat the PS3 in weekly sales for the third-straight week in Japan. The Xbox 360 ranked as the No. 4 best-selling hardware for the week.

Microsoft this week said Netflix will offer Starz movies to the Xbox Live division of the Xbox 360 this fall. The option to view Netflix movies will be added in a new Fall Dashboard update.

Nintendo Co.'s Wii ranked as the No. 2 best-selling hardware in the latest Japan weekly sales. Wii ranked two titles in the top 10 software sales.

Nintendo this week said that it will increase Wii supply this holiday to meet demand. It also announced new Wii and DS products for 2009.
